Games need to have more endings like this. Endings that show what happens when the hero fails so horrifically that the baddies make it a point to rub in how much you suck.
that bad ending kinda reminds me of the bad ending of Cave Story: both protagonists (John and Quote) end up damning the world they live in by choosing to abandon their missions and they feel like non-standard game overs.
the idea of being erased from existence for failing to save the world from the unspeakable is absolutely insane, this ending is my favorite thus far purely for the sobriety and overwhelming sense of failure it presents
Y'know, I never really noticed anyone ever pointing this out, but...what makes this ending a LOT more different from all the others is that...the end screen for it is not the usual "Ending ? out of ?" n' stuff. It's just an alternative MORTIS screen. And before you say anything - there's literally endings like Father and Son and Hunt(forgot how this one is called, but it's basically where you're killed by deers), or even Initiation from Chapter II that seemingly portrayed John's death. Yet we didn't get a whole damn alternate MORTIS screen. And if you come to think of it, in a way, this ending IS an alternate MORTIS. What do I mean? Well, throughout a usual, non-DM run, you'll get AT THE VERY INHUMANE LEAST one MORTIS. But in this run? Not a single one, since you escaped these places, and thus, escaped death itself. So, in this ending, you could say that death truly did come for you this time, and it came to take down not just you. *It came to take down ANYTHING related to you so that it really would feel like a complete and most punishing death you could get.* *Nobody is safe. Possibly, not even Lisa or Garcia.* (TL;DR for those who are on the run/don't like reading: in this ending, you evaded danger and MORTIS, so MORTIS came for YOU.) Buuuuuuut those were just my Random Rambles™. I wonder if anyone agrees, however? 'Tis was Tony on the boiling-hotline. Ba-bye, have a fantastic time of the day, best of luck, warmth into your house, and remember: *₲₳ⱤɎ ⱠØVɆ₴ ɎØɄ.*
First time I played chapter III i was so confused that i didn't even got in the hospital and the daycare, the only thing I did was save Lisa on the apartment and i ended up getting this ending. I found myself sad upon seing john being held by Michael and Amy and getting forgotten... Forever...
there is nothing worse than being forgot forever, history is studied to not be repeated but if we don't know what the others have done we as human race will never get better
Even when damnatio memoriae was a thing, the people who practiced it held back sometimes because they want to preserve that history so it can't be repeated
Probably the worst part is that YOU KNOW you are completely responsible for this ending. The game gave you two options: Keep playing or End the game inmediatly by refusing to continue on your quest, anyone who choose the latter probably just wanted to know how bad it would be, expecting a quick bad ending like all the others... Boy they were wrong, the reason why the other bad endings were quick was because they were either at the start or the middle of the journey, but here? If they fail here then they will be forced to see the consequences of their actions, they were not supossed to fail here, and if they did, was because they refused to EVEN TRY...
Yo bro thats a really good explaniation of what this ending means,It is even relatable to what the Bible mentions Strive to enter through the narrow door; for I tell you that many will seek to enter, and will not be able to. Luke 13:24 This means that reaching salvation is not an easy path, but it is not impossible, but it will always be easier to go to the path that leads to destruction, only those whose faith is strong, and their just, pure and hard-working heart will achieve it. .. I mean airdorf told us practically start playing the game WELL and don't have a lazy time XDD good day bro
Hate to beat a dead horse with this, but it's like the Genocide route of Undertale or the "Snowgrave" route in Deltarune. You did not reach this point by mere hapenstance or by mistake. You only got here through deliberate inaction.
@@daz211 Those routes are more like *deliberate action*, you choose to slaughter and hollow out the world you live in But in Faith, you choose to do nothing while the world you live in is being slaughtered and hollowed out
Lets be real if any of us are in johns position this would be the ending for 99% of us theres that 1% that has such strong faith in god people like father garcia or john but yeah if any of us were in his position this would be the ending
Probably my favorite Faith ending. Priest does not go through fucking undertale-level bullethell. He does not fight devils being possesed with something. He is just a man who is as afraid as others. The name works well too, as Damnatio memoria is a greek execution, followed by destroying anything possibly related to the criminal. Any documents, belongings, sometimes even family. Just as priest's house being burnt and him forgotten by the world that he failed to save
FAITH surely is a great series, but I was a bit disappointed that few of the questions I had from previous game are still un-answered to this day. Who was the gray man in chapter 1? Why / How did father Garcia know about the twins and acted like they're real? What about nasus - aka clown nose? People have been sought out interesting theories about those, and while they're interesting, I can't help but feel that Airdorf could have done better job explaining these.
1)it's Father Garcia, trying to find Michael after he escapes his house. 3)John canonically has a fear of clowns. not sure about the second one, though.
@@APTNE1 Why would garcia run away from john with a creepy laughter? And he mails / shows up in front of john with a shotgun as if nothing happened afterwards? Seems very odd to me. I know about john's fear of clowns. I just cant get why did that need to be reminded to the players as an obtainable item that serves no other purposes in terms of gameplay. It also seems odd that the nose can be found on gray figure and garcia. FAITH wikia suggested that's because garcia, aka gray figure in their own theory used to be a clown invited by martins, but that's not how it works...
2) it's because Mrs Martin have been delusioning they are real she make a birthday party for them that's why he think the twins are real it's because Mrs Martin delusion
@@Raycherry348 So're telling me that not only Father Garcia have known Mrs. Martin **prior** to the 'September 21st, 1987 case' (because Mrs. Martin died after that), he doesn't even begin to suspect that the twins aren't real, or Mrs. Martin is suffering from delusion, which is what Mr. Martin would have told Garcia - providing if they ever meet in the first place. Remember that Garcia was actively seeking out for the twins, as if they're real. And for someone who is resourceful as Garcia, it doesn't really make sense that he's been on the goose chase because of a delusional mother who lost her children. He would have figured out the children arent real if he ever made contact with Martin family in the past.
@@APTNE1 Three answers: 1. A Clown, according to the sprite image's file name and a clown nose that it leaves behind. 2. Father Garcia, according to the color and the fact that Garcia also has a clown nose somewhere in his house. 3. "Father Gallardo", according to a text file found in the trilogy game's directory.
Faith is just such an amazing game on a conceptual level I do wish it could be realized with more realistic visuals without sacrificing the artstyle, I feel like it would really benefit the scare factor To me this game is just sick, not scary
I agree, but for me the whole game sends chills down my spine just seeing how everything sort of connects together, and the fact that the twins were just a illusion, really gives that fucked up feel to this ending and the whole game in general, the soundtrack for this ending and the boss themes make it SO much better too and fits with that retro style type of horror with how unsettling it is.
I disagree, if you were to try and add much more to it it would completely break the style it goes for (and succeeds on). The rotoscoping I feel is the farthest stretch it should go to give it that 'uncanny' look in the horror genre. It pulls it off well.
imo this game works in current artstyle. It is not too 2D-ish that it turns into a RPGM-esque game, it is not too retro that people thought it came from 1987, and it is not too 3D that it is Half Life 3
@razor2810 The Damnatio Memoriae ending from Faith chapter 3. At this point your main character has two decisions - keep pushing on despite his fears, or snap under his fears. This ending is when he snaps, and he snaps hard. And his foe takes the opportunity to destroy him wholly and completely.
@@-SteampunkTraveler- Condemnation of Memory, the old roman act of erasing every piece of evidence that someone existed before having him or her executed. Damnatio Memoriae is far more than just death - it is erasure.
@Razor 2 and you're completely erased from history. Damnatio Memoriae literally means "Condemnation of memory" and is a posthumous punishment, in which all images, documents, everything related with a person is being destroyed and any further mention of this person is forbidden.
