      Sure, no problem and thanks for the comment. Most of the major items in the emergency kit bag are listed in the Description section below the video, including where I purchased them. Here is a list of the rest of the items I did not list, to my best recollection since it's been awhile since I bought them. 3M Duct Tape: Amazon or local hardware store; JB Weld: Amazon or local hardware store; Scotch Electrical Tape: Amazon or local hardware store; Plastic Garbage Bags: local hardware store; Tie Wraps: local hardware store; .032 Safety Wire: Obtained from long ago when I was a mechanic but you can probably obtain this on Amazon?, Hope this was helpful. • @STOPsignforRT

      I purchased the half cover directly from the BMW dealer where I bought my bike. The cover is made by BMW. The only con I have about the cover is that the letters 'BMW' is stenciled on the back which might tip off thieves who are specifically looking to steal a BMW bike. Other than that, I have no other complaints about it. Thanks for the comment.

    Do you or any of your viewers know any way to move the handlebars, or at least the grips, back toward the rider about 3 to 4 inches so the rider can sit up straight instead of leaning forward? I have a 2008 R1200RT. Thanks!

      Thanks for your question James and it's a good one. I am not aware of any 'Bar Backs' made for the R1200RT. Maybe one of the viewers has an answer to your question. I'm assuming here that you have the same handlebars that I do which are forged aluminum and not the tubular handlebars because I have seen tubular handlebars installed on RT's in some countries. There are many 3rd party vendors selling Bar Backs for tubular handlebars so it would be easy to find those but I don't know of any Bar Backs for the forged aluminum version. Sorry that I couldn't be more helpful. If you should find a vendor or a way of moving the handlebars back please let us all know. I think many of us would be interested in this information. Again, thanks for your question and good luck in your search for an answer. Cheers.

      As a follow-up to your question and an FYI...... I found that Ilium Works does have a set of bar backs for the RT. Here is the link - iliumworks.com/BMW_Motorcycle_Accessories.cfm?pn=30%2D500&pID=103. Ilium Works has a RUclips channel and I found an old video on how to install these bar backs. However, I don't think they provide the 3 or 4 inches movement back towards the rider that you want without having to change out the brake lines to the reservoir.

    I believe in covers! They are the sacrificial layer between the sun and your vehicle. Not sure what an authentic BMW cover would go for, but believe it or not Walmart sells a pretty decent lightweight cover that fits my 2017 R1200RT for under $30.

    • @STOPsignforRT
      @STOPsignforRT 2 года назад

      No argument from me on the benefit of having a cover. I especially like the half cover for the RT because I can put it on while the engine is still hot and not worry about scorching the fabric. I don't remember how much I paid for it but I'm sure it wasn't cheap. However since I bought it at the same time as the bike, it all rolled up into the total purchase price of the RT. I didn't know Walmart sells motorcycle covers but hey, if it works and it only costs that much, I consider that a win-win. 👍🏻

    I have the same bike. Nice video. I added Clearwater fog lights which integrate nicely with the existing controls. For mine, I bought a spare blank cover for where the GPS goes, and added a phone mount there to use my phone as my navigation. First iteration was a bit clunky but works. Please, may I ask where you got the service manual? Here in the US BMW tells me they are not available (probably to force more people to get service at the dealership).

    • @STOPsignforRT
      @STOPsignforRT 2 года назад

      Thanks for the comment and watching the video Paul. If you have the same bike .....you have good taste. 😃 Fog lights are something I'm still considering adding them in the future, as well as louder horns. Unfortunately, other things keep pulling money out of pocket instead. As for the Service Manual, I purchased it at the same time that I bought the bike. I got it directly from the BMW Dealers Parts Department. That was back in 2018 though. They may have discontinued them for exactly the reason you mentioned. You'd think they make enough money from selling and servicing our bikes. As a suggestion, you might try looking for a hardcopy book from one of the publishers of motorcycle repair manuals. I haven't checked on this myself but it might be worth a try. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. Again, thanks for watching. Ride safe. Cheers. 🥂

      @@STOPsignforRT Thanks for your reply. Just curious- which country are you in? I'm wondering if the policy is different by country. If I ever do buy another BMW, I'll make a service manual a contingency. I've even written to BMW USA and gotten the same response. It begs the question- if the service manual isn't available, how does the BWM dealer shop know what torque to use on any particular bolt? Or any other random piece of relevant info, such as fluid capacity, etc. If you're in another country besides the US, I might redirect my search to a dealer near you.

      @@paulwelch1702 I'm located in the U.S. I found it odd that BMW has stopped providing a service manual. I'm sure the Service Dept. of a BMW Dealership has access to factory service information. As you said, how else would they be able to work on our bikes? It is baffling and the only reason that I can think of is what you mentioned previously. They want us to take our bikes back to them instead of working on it ourselves. Maybe writing to BMW in Germany will produce a better response? Might be worth a shot.

      Hey Scott, thanks for the question. I purchased the Motohansa tool kit from Twisted Throttle. However, when I tried to look it up on their website, it appears they no longer carry that item. I searched the web and found them at this website: www.beemershop.com/category/motohansa-tools-kits.html It's called the 'Motohansa Pro Series Accessory Tool Kit - BMW. The code for the kit is - MTT00153. The three items in the kit that are for BMW's are the spark plug removal tool, drive socket for the rear axle nut and the Aluminum CNC Coil Remover / Front Wheel Removal Tool. The rest of the tools are for general use on BMW motorcycles i.e. - Torx bits you find on all BMW's, metric sockets and wrenches, etc. The kit isn't cheap but its a quality set of tools that should last a very long time. You can shop around online and maybe find a better price for them. Hope that helps. Cheers 🥂🍻

      @STOPsignforRT 2 года назад

      You're welcome Jurgen. I don't use the seat cushion a lot (mostly on longer road trips when my backside starts to get numb or hurt) but from the times that I have used it, it helped me ride a little longer and reduced any pains or uncomfortableness. The factory seat is pretty comfortable so I use this sparingly and only when needed. I agree with what most say about this seat cushion and that is, you don't want to fully inflate the bladders because that will make you feel like you're floating above the seat and you lose the connected feeling with the bike. Just add enough air to just get your body off the seat and that should be enough. When not in use, I just store it in my top case. Overall, its far cheaper than a custom seat and looks better than s sheepskin pad so yes, I have to say I am pleased with the purchase. But please get other opinions before buying and don't take just my word on it. Good luck and ride safe. Cheers 🥂/🍻

      Congratulations on your new RT!! You're gonna love it. You'll find that the BMW top case is the main storage location for most of your everyday items besides a tank bag if you're going to get one. I use my tank bag for the instantly accessible items like my gloves, phone, keys, wallet, etc. and my top case holds my safety vest, baseball cap, extra glove, fire extinguisher, helmet lock (my helmet cams don't allow for stowing my helmet in the side cases anymore), etc. And there's still plenty of room for other things. Since the cases are all lockable with the central locking system and key fob, its easy peasy to stow and go. Ride safe and enjoy your new RT! Cheers.

    • @STOPsignforRT
      @STOPsignforRT 2 года назад

      Hi Dan. Thanks for the comment / question. The running lights on my bike do not blink. They are the factory original lights. I think the blinking you see is caused by the frame rate of the camera I filmed with. If the frame rate you select for your recording is similar to the frequency of the lights, it appears as though the lights are blinking when in reality they are not. I'm not an expert in photography but I think that is the explanation for what you're seeing. As for whether or not the stock lights can be modified to blink, I recall seeing some accessory lighting kits that could enable this feature in the past but I haven't seen anything like that lately. But I'd be interested to know the answer to this myself. Hope this answers your question. Again, thanks for the question. Cheers.

    I luv my 1250RT, basically the same bike as yours..On your audio option, another workaround is buying a Bluetooth transmitter from Amazon, usually cost you about $25 bucks. It will connect to the USB plug for power and it comes with an audio cable to plug into the bike. Once you pair the BT transmitter to your phone, you can play your music through the AUX channel on your bike....

    • @STOPsignforRT
      @STOPsignforRT 3 года назад

      Thanks for the comment..... If you pay for Breakdown Service you probably don't need these tools. I like to have them handy because I prefer to repair things myself unless what's broken is unrepairable, then I'll place a call for help. As for an air/comfort seat review, I have actually filmed footage and evaluated an Air Hawk R Cruiser Seat Cushion that I use occasionally but I can't edit and post that footage right now because my ancient computer is in need of replacement. However, I'd say that they do indeed help if you're suffering from lower back discomfort (I have chronic lower back pain myself). But the best solution would be to stop riding for short periods and stretch and exercise those back support muscles. Maybe not an ideal or practical solution while riding so the Air Hawk Seat Pad provides good temporary back pain relief. Not exactly cheap to purchase but its simple, easy to install and works relatively well for me. In my very best / wildest dreams, I am 6 foot plus but upon waking, I'm sadly the same height. 🙁 The only discomfort I have in the riding position is leg cramping and its mainly because I'm short(er) and I have a factory optional low seat with the front seat mount placed in the L/Low position which places my legs in an acute angle. I don't cramp up all the time but it does randomly happen. Cheers 🥂/🍻

      Thank you for stopping at the STOPsign .....Channel and watching the video! Happy to hear my video helped in even the smallest way. I've purchased a few more accessories (nothing major) and I've recorded video footage of them but until I get a new computer (hopefully later this year), I can't publish that video just yet. On the highway pegs, you actually helped me out. Its been a long time since I've been on the Illum Works website and I didn't know they had highway pegs for my bike. I've been searching for a solution for leg cramping on long trips so I'm definitely going to seriously look into those. So thank YOU for the tip. That long trip you've got coming up sounds really good. I'm also looking forward to some trips this year, post vaccinations. But whatever bike you decide to take on the trip, I'm sure either way, its gonna be good to get out there and get in a long ride again. Good luck and enjoy the journey!!! Cheers 🥂

      @@STOPsignforRT I have been shooting and editing for many years. My final opinion is 4k is never needed for RUclips videos. 1080p uploads so quick and side by side laptops or cell phones can not tell the difference from 1080 or 4k. I believe 4k is WAY to big of a quality file for RUclips. I own many 4k cameras and I have learned NOT to shoot 4k. I have 3 super Mac video editing desktop computers that big down with 4k. • @STOPsignforRT
      @STOPsignforRT 3 года назад

      @@thedolphinDog Thanks for the question DolphinDog. Yes. I'm still riding the RT. In fact, I'll be riding a bit more now that I'm immunized. As for my long term review of this motorcycle, it is my dream bike. When I purchased the RT, I was looking to buy my last bike that I would ride off into the sunset with. Of all the bikes on the market in 2018, I picked the RT and I have no regrets- none. Be aware however, it isn't perfect and it isn't for everyone but for me, it was THE one. Out of all the top features this bike offers, I like the bikes handling the best. Once its moving, the weight vanishes and you feel like you're riding a 350-500cc bike. Want to do some spirited cornering? No problem. Want to tour? No problem. Going to the grocery store for milk? No problem. Its got more power (even without the new shift-cam technology) that I would ever need. Comfort and Convenience is the next best thing that I love. It has pretty much every imaginable feature that a biker would want or need. Mine was fully loaded as it sat on the showroom floor. The only other options were the Low Seat, Navigator 6 and the top case, which I bought, and auxiliary lighting, which I did not buy but that is something I'm still considering. Oh, and maybe louder horns. The one slight negative is the foot-peg / leg positioning. I have had some minor leg cramping during rides. I think that's mainly because I have the optional lower seat and the seat's front mount is set to the Low position to enable me to reach the ground with both feet almost flat. I think that's causing my leg to be in a more cramped / acute angle position than most other people. But that's it as far as negatives or problems that I've had. Take this information with a grain of salt though because these are only my opinions and comments. Your experience / situation may differ from mine and your likes and dislikes may differ from mine. IMHO however, I don't think you'll regret your purchase and even more so with the new power, new styling, new TFT screen, adaptive cruise control, etc. etc. I do want to stress and state again though, these are only my thoughts / opinions. Good Luck and let me know if you do go ahead with your decision to buy. Cheers 🥂

      @@thedolphinDog Sorry to hear about your accident. But you're exactly right about the RT's white color. At first glance, it makes people pause for a second or more (depending on their knowledge of police motorcycles) and slow down / start paying attention. It makes them safe and keeps us safer too. As for the engine heat, I can only speak for the 2018 model but I haven't had any issues with excessive heat from the cylinders. But that might be because it doesn't get too hot very often where I live. On the new 2020 you're buying, yes I've heard about those Hayes brake issues. There are several RUclips videos on them. I'd make sure you're satisfied with the fix and warranty before I took delivery if I were you. I have Brembo's and they've been problem free. Thanks for the compliment and thank you for your question. I am the same height as you. I like to think I'm 5' 8" on a good day but I'd be lying. 😁 With the BMW low seat and the forward seat mount in the L or Low position and the ESA (Electronic Suspension Adjustment) set for just one rider, I can touch the ground with the balls of my feet but not fully flat foot my feet on the ground. This is enough for me to feel secure on the bike. That's with wearing my current motorcycle boots which have a thin sole on it. I'll be buying another motorcycle boot in the future and that one will have a thicker sole on it which should help with flat footing while the bike is stationary. If you have concerns about this and you're considering the purchase of this bike, I would suggest going to a BMW dealer and sitting on a RT set up with the low seat option and the mount set to the low position and see how secure you feel. If you don't feel safe and secure sitting in the saddle, I would recommend not buying the bike because that feeling goes a long way towards whether or not you will have a good experience owning this motorcycle. I hope this answers your question. Cheers. 🥂

      STOPsign You are welcome. I just bought my second EZ Touring Traveller cover. I can’t find proof of purchase to be 100% sure, but I believe my first cover was bought in 1988 when I took my first long tour on a Kawasaki Voyager XII. I now ride a K1200LT and since the X size cover fit it also, I didn’t have to buy a new one. It finally started to leak a little water the last couple of years and when we washed it after our recent 3,400 mile trip, the coating started to flake off the fabric. I guess after 30+ years of at least a couple weeks of on the road use each year, it doesn’t owe me an anything. That cover has been to Newfoundland, Alaska, all around the US and most recently to the Florida Keys. A very good cover at a good price and the parachute fabric they use packs very compactly compared to the covers made of a more canvas-like material.

      @@LTVoyager Wow, those covers are durable to say the least. I'd say you got your moneys worth and then some. Some question the need for a cover but my reasoning for owning one is that I like to keep my bike immaculate or as clean as possible. You could call that obsessive compulsive but it bothers me when the bike is dirty so a cover really helps in that effort. And with a half cover, I don't ever worry about covering the bike when the engine is still hot. Yes, it doesn't provide full bike coverage but its protected enough until its parked in the garage again. Ride safe and enjoy your sweet ride - K1200LT. Cheers. 🥂

      STOPsign I am fortunate to have a garage for my motorcycles when at home, but when traveling, I use a cover for the reason you mention and one more: I often leave my GPS on the bike or my gloves on the seat and when passersby can’t see such things, they are much less likely to mess with the bike. At least that has been my experience. Also, keeping the UV off the paint and plastic and keeping rain off the seat is nice when you go out to ride the next morning.

      @@LTVoyager Couldn't agree more. The phrases, 'Out of Sight - Out of Mind' and 'Keeping Honest People Honest' are applicable on the use of Covers. Of course, that's primarily for theft purposes. Not that our bikes (RT and LT) are high on the list of stolen bikes (according to my BMW Sales person) as compared to pocket rocket type performance bikes that draw the most attention. But on the practical side, it just protects our prized possessions and ensures they will still look as good 10 years from now as they do today. Ever just go out in the garage and admire the bike? Full Disclosure - I do. And I want to continue to do that for a long time. 😁

The first that comes to mind is, that if you are doing a video without talking, and have subtitles, then you don't need to stay a long time on each subtitle, since RUclips can be paused. I carry mostly the same gear, but much less of it. For example 3' of each tape type wrapped around tool handles, and just specific tools for small fasteners...not the whole rack. This way I have room for clothing and other extended trip necessities. I keep the bike loaded in case a 'day ride' turns into a multi day adventure. : )

      Thanks for stopping at the STOPsign, the compliment and watching the video Robnord1. I agree. I have gone slightly overboard with the equipment but I have nightmare visions of the bike sliding on its side for 100 ft and causing all kinds of damage. Probably too paranoid about something that hopefully should never happen. So far (knock on wood), I have plenty of space for my emergency equipment in one of my side cases which leaves the other side case and top case free for my other 'junk'. If I go on a tour or camping, I have a couple of large dry bags that are strapped on the passenger seat so I'm good as far as capacity is concerned. However, over time I may cut back on some of the emergency stuff. I hope the installation of the crash bars are problem free for you and you like them. I've already garage drop tested one side of my crash bars and can attest to the fact that they work great to protect the bike from damage. Good luck and continued happy riding on your 2014 RT. Hi Tax2Me, Thanks for the comment and watching the video. The BMW R1200RT comes with the side cases as standard equipment from the factory. The cost of the side cases are already factored into the price of the base motorcycle. The top case however, is an extra cost option and very pricey. Now, the engine protection bars on this bike are extra cost options. If you buy the GS Adventure however, the engine protection bars are standard equipment. Truth be told, if you buy anything from BMW you can expect to pay $$$. But, the products are usually high quality. Thanks again for leaving a comment and watching. Cheers. 🥂

I have a Shoe neotec 2 helmet with built in Sena comms,I listen to the radio or play my music through that,it's excellent. I opted not to have the keyless ride,simply because,here in the UK,BMW bikes with keyless are easily stolen,the thieves have scanners which allows them to read the ignition code on the bike. As regards crash bars,I chose Wunderlich engine and rear case protection bars.These were the only engine crash bars I could find,that don't have to be removed to allow servicing of the engine.The best bit of kit I have installed is a HexEZCan,I run 2 Denali D4 and 2 Denali D1's plus 2 extra rear brake lights.The HexEZCan,allows me to configure this setup how I like via the function wheel and the turn signal switch. It appears we do have similar ideas and tastes.😊 Top Case - When I first saw this used on an RT (prior to my purchase of the RT) I was very impressed by how much more noticeable the bike was from the rear when brakes were applied. I knew then and there I needed/ wanted it for my bike. Radio - I purchased my bike from the showroom floor and it came equipped with the factory radio. I don't use it much in town (mainly not wanting to distract other drivers - I want them paying attention) but I think that on long rides where I'm traveling down straight as an arrow roads with no interesting scenery, I'll probably turn it on to make time past by quicker but I fully understand your alternative. I also have a quiet Shoei Neotec helmet and I can see that it would make listening to the radio very immersive. Keyless Ride - I did not know that. Good information, thanks. Again, keyless ignition came with the bike so I had no choice but this is good to keep in mind. However, my dealer had absolutely no concerns that the RT was a bike that thieves would find desirable to steal but I haven't seen an statistics or know that to be a fact. Crash Bars - Yes, I totally agree. It does not hinder the servicing of the engine and that was certainly one of the reasons for buying it. Unfortunately, I've already tested it in the garage and it works beautifully to protect the engine. 😟 HexEZCan - THIS is one of the last remaining options I'm considering on buying. I like how they integrate with the bikes existing controls. And I believe you can also tie them in with the Denali horns which is another benefit. However, the purchase of another computer is in my immediate plans so this may have to wait awhile. Best Touring Bike - 100% in agreement. I also considered the GS Adventure and the K1600 but in the end, the combination of relatively light weight, comfort and convenience, impeccable handling and all the power I need was why I chose the RT and don't have any regrets. Thanks again for the comment BS. Cheers. 🥂

      Thieves in the US might had learned that tool already. Good to know. That one is sufficiently scary reason not to buy a 2 wheel vehicle for the price (equivalent) of a Ferrari

      @@Tax2Me They are not the equivalent price of a Ferrari but I agree with you Tax2Me, they are on the very high end of costly motorcycles for purchase. You could buy a car for what this costs. However, then you would not have the reason most of us buy motorcycles in the first place, which is another discussion. If a thief wants your motorcycle, they will get it regardless of what anti-theft measures or anti-theft equipment you put on the bike. Statistically though, I think that sport bikes would be more desirable for thieves to steal than an touring bike. Not that this is any comfort but that's why we purchase insurance. Good discussion. Thanks for stopping at the Stopsign Tax2Me. Cheers. 🥂

      I had mine with the audio pack, yes its expensive but it makes such a difference on long journeys, I got the topcase from ebay, for half price, ordered the new lock barrel from BMW so it works with central locking. The Neotec 2 is a great helmet with the SRL, its just a bit noisy on other bikes though.

      @@juddhadley1145 Hey thanks again JH for leaving a comment. I TOTALLY agree with you. I've heard some people say they absolutely don't understand the need for an audio pack but I must say, it helps the miles go by quicker and makes the trip more enjoyable. Especially at rest stops where I will sit back on the bike and turn the audio on to relax. Topcase - Great way to go. Cheaper and still works with the central locking. Nice. In my case, I wanted the integrated brake light assembly in the topcase also so although this was a costly option, I decided to go with what BMW provided. Neotec - I haven't incorporated any communication system on my helmet yet but I might do that in the future and hopefully the speakers will minimize road and engine noise. Other than that, I'm happy with the first generation Neotec but would be happier with the latest version which I understand is quieter. Cheers. 🥂

Happy motoring, Sir, and again, A big Thank You for sharing this here on RUclips. Its all pretty necessary to have on the bike and as far as i can see, youve left nothing out.

      You're welcome and thanks for the kind words DG. Since I posted this video, I've actually purchased a few more small accessory items which I plan to show in an upcoming video. The only other accessories that I 'MAY' buy are louder horns and auxiliary lights. But I'm on the fence on those because I'm okay without them for now. One of the benefits of owning an RT is the amount of comfort / convenience items that are already factory installed as delivered and purchased from the showroom floor. You don't need to buy a ton of accessories after the purchase. The bike is so well equipped, you can just jump on it and enjoy the ride if you want. I just thought these additional items added a little frosting on the cake. Thanks again for watching and the comment DG!!!
