Orlando Kart Center - Tony Kart ROK Senior (GP Engine)
Finally getting back in the seat! Clear track. Only the clock and me. :o)
This is a nice refresher session. I've been outta my Rotax TAG Master seat for just over a year with only 2 full race weekends this past season.
This is my first time driving a Tony Kart on Bridgestone tires. Nice chassis. Balanced and good handling (Paulo had the kart setup very nicely. I would have liked 2 less teeth for gearing. Sweet and 'floatable' through apex with nicely setup throttle rotation.) The motor is strong and responsive. The brakes are definitely touchier than my Birel (as you can see a couple of times), but once you find their levels, they're solid and highly 'modulateable'. All together, a nice kar...

A fun bit racing after moving back East and being out of the seat almost 4 months. I was told my best time of the day was a very quick 64.797 on the long layout. The final stop on the COTA tour and the Championship season finale in beautiful Sonoma. This is the longest fastest kart course in California. It sits atop a hill overlooking the historic Sonoma (Infineon) Raceway and also overlooks the North Bay of San Francisco. This is my final practice for Friday the 13th. :o)

This is Sunday's warm-up. I'm improving with every lap in the seat. Experience? That will come. I had a pretty good warm up session save the one off in the sweeper. A gain of another 10th of a second is great progress! For my very first race, in this international event, I'm super happy to only be ~1.5 seconds off of national champions' lap times. :o)

OK everyone... these are some of my first practice laps in a Rotax Master's kart at a major event. It. Is. AWESOME! There's no real learning curve... it's more like a learning line... it goes straight up! I listened. I learned. I got more confident and became quicker every time I sat in the seat. Third and final session today. Nick and I looked closely at telemetry and we really worked on two sections of the track that would turn better lap times. It did. I see now. Quicker still... "Race car coming on track. We're very quick." - Nick, my fantastic instructor radioing race control when I entered the track. Thanks to the other drivers for making room.

After session 1 and then riding with instructor Nick and observing his racing lines, this is my second session. Still some drizzle on the track in turns 1-4 (made for a couple of heart stoppers), but it's gotten a bit warmer and the sun started peaking out. There's really not too much like it on the ground. The only thing that would come close is aerobatic flying. Skydiving sports. Outer Space. I would love to come see you have a go! :)
