YES ... but now I have a bike with no bottom end gearing nor high end gearing. I assumed this would cover putting on a "mega-range" cassette no? What reasons are there for ditching my high and low gears for this setup. It's basically now a $100 budget bike setup.

I would definitely try to go with a flat-bar that's the same width as you're shoulders for the most comfortable arm position. That's unless you intend on hitting the mountain bike trails👍 What's more: Wide handlebars make filtering through traffic extremely difficult.

So pull any two. Find the tight spot. Keep it there. Squeeze it. Tighten two. Than put in other two and star pattern?

So how did you dish it

I tear mine apart and remove the innards and clean before overhauling. They left the factory with grease, and that is the best way to fix them. Also you get to check for worn parts and replace as needed. I have many parts for these as I have been overhauling them for years.

Sorry but a 3 or 2x8 to a 1x8 give and awful gear ration especially for climbing this is more workable if it was a x9.
