Просмотров 2337 лет назад
If you watched an open-wheel midget race between 1974 and 1985 at the Indianapolis Speedrome, chances are good you witnessed the familiar #77 car of Ron Eden racing for a win. During that eleven year span, Eden started 83 races at the Speedrome: won 18 times , finished second 16 times, and finished third 3 times. Do the math and you’ll find that Ron Eden finished in the top 3 positions for 45 p...

We didn't appreciate John Stiles enough when he was owner of SPEEDROME. That was a big mistake. JS is a great man. 100%
Awww the good old days
THANK YOU for this HISTORICAL and ENTERTAINING POST! If anyone can point me in the direction as to how this race was on ESPN as well as why Mr. Johnson chose THIS race as his first on pavement and has he run any other pavement races and why did those BIG NAMES of ALLISON and MOORE get involved and what was the connection of CJ RAYBURN to this race…..how DID THIS all COME TOGETHER? again, THANK YOU, i, up til THIS, had only HEARD about this EXCELLENT track and read about many a close race in USAC division. What was the purse? Did ESPN presence raise the stakes? GO MICKEY
Is Dean Sizemore related to USAC stock car vet PAUL Sizemore?
No sir
A man named Glenda? Did i hear that right? not that there is anything wrong with that
Husband and wife team Marion and Glenda HESTER
@@KennyStJohn-s9o oooooooo. my bad. im always learning 🫤
@@MrChristopherHaas all good They drove oldsmobiles #62 & #63 Glenda was 3x the driver Marion was 😆
@@KennyStJohn-s9o i remember a man named Marion in middle school. but this my first Glenda, though i think there might be an independent film titled “A ManCalled Glenda” lol.
My goodness is that T-BIRD the same T-Bird that raced USAC and NASCAR with drivers like TIGER TOM PISTONE at the helm? holy smokes
interesting to see Mr.Allison and Mr. Johnson running CJ RAYBURN Camaros that were built to run at dirt tracks. Rayburn was the PREMIER builder of such machines and a pretty good hotshoe himself.
Fun facts….Ronnie Johnsons dad, Joe Lee Johnson won the 1st ever World 600. Ronnie is a member of the Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame after winning just about every big race there is in that regard. Mickey Flora was a veteran of USAC stock car division. And then theres the absolute LEGEND of LARRY MOORE, one of the best to ever do it. MOORE ran usac, arca VERY competitively. He won EVERYTHING there was to win on dirt in Late Models including multiple ELDORA wins and is a member of Late Model Dirt hof.
one of the best, period.
Was there a 2nd Regency 500?
Thanks for these great videos!!
John Stiles the most Underappreciated man that built figure 8 racing.
RIP Dad 7-9-48 9-13-23 Terribly missed
He was very tough Great guy RIP
Wow. Great post. Great image. Is this because it was professionally shot? Better film maybe? Did this track become the 16th street speedway?
Ronnie Johnson still racing in 2023
Cool
See, That is how cocky people get....F×ckin nobody. You shake every MANS hand... You walk by???? tsk tsk
Reace in Peace Kevin! Thank you for capturing this interview and sharing it with everyone. I met Kevin in 2004 at Ohayocon and knew him as a great photography friend until (what was then) the last time I would see him at Youmacon 2018.
I knew Kevin for well over two decades and have covered many events with him. He is one of the coolest guys I've known. A true professional!
My uncle...RIP
Rest in peace my friend. Thank you for the many memories from ACEN to Otakon. You will be missed dearly.
Kevin's contributions to anime fandom through his masterful photography was a major influence in anime fandom. He was a good friend and one of those rare people who could have an intelligent discussion on numerous issues. As much as he is missed in one field, he is also missed in another. Rest In Peace, my friend.
Thank you for having spoken with him and gotten his face and voice on record. Kevin was a friend and his memory is a blessing to all of us who knew him.
I remember when the the old grandstands burned. Sometime about 1965 they built new stands in concrete. My Dad did not like reruns on TV and we often went there in the summer.
I remember that car.was probably there as a little kid.wow what a cool video
In the 60's my dad raced there. WTTV had commercials on TV promoting Speedrome. The commercial was the crash with Bob Cloud and my dad..it was the biggest crash of the summer. Is there any possible way to find those commercials and obtain a copy on disc . I think 1963 or 4 . Possibly 62. Thank you.
I think I seen Bobby Ellett in the pits...
holy shit 500 laps, thats a long run, how many times did they do this race, this is the first I have really heard of it today 12/20/2021 thats got to be really harsh and a feat of endurace, though in reading more about the little 500 in anderson that too has the midgets though I thought they ran sprints there at the little 500 I know it has a big following though but never been there myself. follow mainly winged sprints, which seem to be short in supply in indiana next season in 22, but there are lots of silver crown races scedualed in indiana and twice at eldora of course till now I thought the little 500 was a shorter race then 500 laps.
King Kenny !!! #1
My papaw raced there for years, and my uncle 💙💙 JOE LOWE and RICKY LOWE
Worked with his brother. Told me he would turn the sound off the NASCAR race. Just to practice calling the race. My favorite announcer. He could made you enjoy paint drying.
There are 2 very smart men on this video. A couple of notes is the Jeffersonville Sportsdrome in Indiana was built in 1947 shortly after WW II. In the 70's when the World 600 was on the day before the Indy 500 Bobby Allison was forbidden from even starting the 600.
That’s my uncle, he died in 2016, I miss him so much
I know in Enduro's there's more cars than normal but still for a figure 8
Why have that many cars out on the track? It's just a cluster fuck
John - you made my wife Karen (Thompson) McDonald's day with this video. She really appreciated the video's with her dad (Sonny Thompson) racing. She remembered so may of the other background people in this video. It's great watching so many individuals that had such an impact on Karen's life and childhood.
I started going to the Speedrome in the mid to late 90s. Still going now. So thankful I got to watch "The General" win back to back Late Model titles. Tremendous talent in a Late Model. Congrats on the Hall of Fame induction!
18mins in and this is the best fig 8 race I've seen before, appreciate the older race up-loads!!
Oh great I'm the 2nd one
DIG THE WING ON THE #5, LOL, looks like a World of Outlaw sprinter and a Modified had a baby Haahaha
I enjoy watching all the Tunny’s race, I grew up watching their uncle Jim Tunny race
Kevin is such an admirable man I enjoyed all of his years announcing at speedrome I only wished he could have been there a few years sooner to have met my dad ( Sonny Thompson ) and announced his races ❤️
I enjoyed hearing your story
Absolutely love my memories with all the St. John’s, always had a kid crush on Kenny , spent the night at his house numerous times , Kenny and Lou are wonderful ppl
Absolutely love hearing these memories, and I have memories of Wayne and billy coming to our house for a block party ❤️
I have Mike St. John’s 1985 figure 8 trophy he gave to me after I won the big wheel races I was one of his biggest fans
Black #66 is Joe Biondolillo Jr, who retired with the most Figure 8 feature wins in Long Island racing history (53). Unfortunately, Joe passed away in 2004 at age 46. Gone too soon. Thanks for the memories!
Looking for 1980 figure eight endurance The yr my dad ended his run in the cross over
Very cool, man. Thanks. I can only imagine how very tired those guys are after wrestling a midget 500 laps on such a short track. Wow! Grueling!!
Yes I did it
