I've read BRZRKR, like you I found it worth the read, but it did move to quickly at times and also slightly non-sensical, then it slowed down and became a bit boring. I don't know if the one shots are in those omnibuses, but those I preferred, especially the last one, A Face full of Bullets. Once and Future I bought in the 5 trades. That blew hot & cold for me, but listening to your synopsis, I should now probably read them again. I'm intrigued by the ones you've not mentioned before, but I certainly will look out for, In. Another informative video Chris, Thank you!
@@Deadman1957TEB thank you! Yeah BRZRKR is just the first 12 issues. Might check out the one shots and spin offs at some point. In was very good! I hope you enjoy it if you pick it up
I read 'In' last week on a train journey. It made me laugh out loud, then force back tears. I should have worried about what the other folks on the train thought about that bald emotional yo-yo of a man. But frankly I didn't care, this book is so wonderful. Just a beautiful thing!
@@colinynwa 😂 it was truly something special. I'll definitely be picking up a copy of my own soon

Gou Tanabe really brings new life to Lovecraft, hope there is more coming.

A couple great recent stories worth picking up are Blood Commandment by Szymon Kudranski. Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees Very very cool. Both tremendous atories. Worth reading 👌
@@fuzzydunlop_1 I'll have to check out Blood Commandment, but Beneath the Trees was amazing. Definitely a great Halloween read too.
@@indiecomicscorner A sequel has been announced. Set 8 yrs later in the 90s this time. Should be great 👌
@@fuzzydunlop_1 oh yeah I heard about the sequel. Didn't know it was set 8 years later though. That's cool
I've only ever read a small amount of Hellboy, and only heard of the first two you speak about. Don't know why I've never read them other than there is so much stuff I've not read it joins that long line of maybe in the future! I've not got a specific horror book I've read, other than the usual House of Mystery, the Witching hour, Unexpected, etc. Along with the several recent Elvira mini-series, but they're more comedy than horror, the HP Lovecraft one maybe an exception! By the way the Library book you had at the top of the pages there was a library stamp maybe revealing where it came from! Interesting video Chris, keep them coming!
@@Deadman1957TEB haha thanks for watching! Glad I could introduce you to a few new books. I have the same issue of too much to read with not enough time. One day I'll catch up, right? I'll have to take a proper look at the library book. I've had a couple that were ex-library books. Always a surprise find when stuff is out of stock.

Lots of food for thought their Chris! I keep looking at reading SIKTC, but I have a problem with James Tynion, the first few issues of any of his series start okay or good, but then a few issues go by and then I feel, haven't I read that last issue about another character, taken in a different perspective, but basically the same? Maybe it's me? That's why I've not bought his recent by the sea! I've ordered the trade of Plastic! The search and destroy I will look for! Great synopsis of Watchmen, I to think if that's one of the first "super-hero" books you read for getting into super-hero books, you'll probably be put off! Have you read these "Dong Xoai" Vietnam 1965 by Joe Kubert? Came out in 2011. "They call us Enemy" by George Takei Came out in 2019. Both very good. Especially George Takei's a real first hand true story!
@@Deadman1957TEB thank you! I agree about Tynion and showing same events from new perspectives. It doesn't bother me as it reminds me of something you'd see on TV 😂 Let me know what you think of Plastic and Search and Destroy! Yeah I've always felt that way about Watchmen that I rarely see mentioned when someone recommends it. Not read either of those, but have heard especially great things about They Called Us Enemy. Will have to check them out sometime. Thanks as always for the continued support ♥️
@@indiecomicscorner I like the TV remark, thing is I think I'm at least twice your age, so have seen more repeats and reminders than you, lol! Makes me feel older than I want to be!

Good stuff again. Chris is dangerous for recommendations lol he makes you want everything lol Im currently ploughing through some series that I started and never completed. Just finished all the Dceased stuff and moving on to Gideon Falls which I started about 3 years ago but never finished. DWJ is spectacular. Not in the same style but Otto Schimdt is another artist who captures movement and action really well imo
@@Phils_Nerdyverse haha he's a menace and he needs to be stopped 😂 Sounds like you're getting into the spooky mood! I should do a re-read of Gideon Falls. Not read it since it was coming out monthly. Otto Schmidt! I'll check out their stuff. Cheers, Phil!
Currently reading the following: Immortal Sergeant Mind MGMT by Mindt From Hell by Alan Moore I read Blankets and found it too sentimental for me. Not for me.
@@rosswilson8917 Great list! I need to read all 3 of those. Think I'll take a break from Alan Moore for a month or two before going to From Hell though 😂 Totally fair about Blankets. That worked for me, but I don't see it working for everyone.

Just read the #1for the 2nd time, on first read I don't think my head was in the right place for reading anything, and I didn't like it. But after a second read when I was in comic book reading mode, I now see what you got out of it! I've re-subbed for #2, I also see it's 8 issues, I wonder if that's necessary? We'll see!
@@Deadman1957TEB that's awesome! I'm excited to see how the series goes
Cool list…i was only familiar with about half of these…
@@sleepyreader666 thanks for watching! Let me know if you check the others out
Brilliant! Some great picks, a few Iv not read so I’ll have a look at them!
Cheers, Peter! Hope you enjoy them!
Texas Blood is superb, did you read the single issues or the trades. If you read the trades you may not of noticed there are two issues missing #13 and #20, these were one shot Christmas stories, which were also as good as the main story-arcs. The Enfield gang massacre is also a great tale by the same team of two. The two volumes of sink are excellent, keep meaning to buy Dig, but have not got round to it. I'm going to pick up Plastic, but the other two you've chosen, I dipped my toe due to some free comics I won, I got a few issues of Canto, can't say it was my cup of tea, don't know why, just couldn't get into it. Ronin never seen, if I come across a few issues may give it ago! I think I asked you before, did you read the Displaced? I really enjoyed that! Just begun the new IPI comics Sherlock Holmes, Claws of the Chimera, first of 4 issues, great start! I love when Sherlock is written very bloody minded, as a good thing, if you know what I mean? One of my real favourites over the last few years has been Resident Alien from Dark Horse, there were only supposed to be 4 Volumes, but I've just finished Volume 8, and #9 is coming. It's nothing like the TV series, something I'm not really keen on. It's just a carefully sculpted story a little like a soap opera, but a well worded one, Peter Hogan writing and Steve Parkhouse art, go together very well. Sorry this comments a bit long! Sorry, love talking comics!
Haha no worries about the comment length :D Yeah I read all of Texas including the one shots and The Enfield Gang Massacre, all excellent! I still need to read pick up Dig as well actually. Hoping one day it all gets collected in a deluxe hardcover, but might just be wishful thinking. I read The Displaced on your rec. Really enjoyed it! Is it an ongoing? The ending felt like it could be the end, but also opened up to more maybe? Not read Resident Alien, but was aware of it. Need to check it out at some point! Thanks for the support as always :)
@@indiecomicscorner No Displaced was just a mini-series, but like you say it ended as it started in a way, just with a different guy, probably having to relive what the previous guy did! Reminded me of the full circle that final destination did! Films I need to revisit! Just ordered Dig while I was thinking about it! Yes Resident Alien is just an easy pleasurable read, surprised it's not increased in price, which is usually what happens when comics are made into a TV series?! Not that I'm selling, lol!
@@Deadman1957TEB fair enough. Was good and makes sense as an ending. 😂 Think you missed your chance to sell
Its definitely a contender. Solid solid series. I actually appreciated that not everything was explained. Id happily take a 2nd arc and i think it will happen. Other solid ones, Something Epic, Grommets, The Deviant and Holy Roller have all kept me thoroughly entertained throughout the year.
Thanks for watching! I've no doubt we'll get more in this world with how popular this series was. Those are all solid books. This year has been extremely strong and I'm already not looking forward to having to get it down to a top 10 at the end of the year 😂
Ive been meaning to sub but kept forgetting. Happy I remembered. Lookin forwarded to seeing more of your content pal. Good luck, we need more voices giving us new comicbook content. Definitely wish you luck bud 👌 I think i have you added on IG too, but you havent posted? Hopefully thats the right page 😂
Thanks, Fuzzy! It's certainly appreciated, and I'm really enjoying talking about something I've been passionate about my whole life. Yeah I'm on IG and have posted a fair bit. Should be this account: instagram.com/indiecomicscorner/
@indiecomicscorner got it. For some reason nothing was showing but it's sorted now. 👍 👌
I found Daniel Warren-Johnson's Beta Ray Bill tpb quite boring. The art was good but the story was underwhelming.
I enjoyed BRB, but wasn't blown away by it. Certainly lower on my list of must read DWJ
I finished Beneath the Trees, but I wouldn't have it as my book of the year. I thought it failed to show why the main character liked to be in control. They didn't show enough in my opinion and the ending was a little too clean. Plus what does it say about a community that would vote a book about a psychopath as a book of the year. I'd give it an 8/10.
That's fair, Ross. I'm glad you still enjoyed it :)
Nice review. I heard so many on youtube rave about this series when it was coming out issue by issue. I've just picked up the trade and you've given me another boost to read it.
That's awesome! Let me know what you think when you've read it
Just to be clear, Riley Rossmo does the art work inside the dream world and DWJ does the art in the waking world. Insane book, Love it, Love it, Love it!!!
Thanks for clarifying! I should have been clearer that I meant DWJ books always have such incredible art. Serves me right for recording this in a rush 😂

These look great!
@@DaveBrittles I think you'd really like them!
I’m sold! I’ve got mine on pre-order! Can’t wait!
@@DaveBrittles thanks Dave! Let me know what you think of it
Yes Chris it is I beleive, the way you've broken it down is as if I'm reading it again. I believed that at the end we were going to see who these "animals" actually were. The butcher shop didn't make sense, when pigs are walking around talking, but also their dead heads are in the butchers window. I believe if it hadn't been such an extremely popular title, the price of a #1 first print is still high, #6 would of ended differently and we would of seen a town at the end with humans walking around! But because of it's popularity it was seen early on that there could be sequels to this. I could be wrong and probably am, but there were some unexplained clues throughout the issues. I actually sold my six issues at a rather handsome price, not something I would normally do with a new series, especially one I really liked. But I was planning on buying myself a nice hardback, but it looks like I will have to wait a while longer as they are only doing them in America at the moment. I will probably pick up the trade though! Another thing I loved about it was the Dexter vibes, the original Dexter, not that last season that came out!
@@Deadman1957TEB that's a really good observation and I wouldn't be surprised if you are right! Yeah I saw those hardbacks and couldn't justify the price. Shipping alone was about the same as the book!
@@indiecomicscorner Yep, totally agree, have to draw the line somewhere!!
@@indiecomicscorner I meant to ask if you've read The Displaced? I really enjoyed it, mainly because it reminded me of an early great episode of Twilight Zone, if they had made a Twilight Zone episode like it!

@@LegionofComics heck yeah! It's the best 🤘
New sub here. Ghost Machine is the hottest thing in the comic book streets. I’m loving Geiger and Redcoat the most, but I’m collecting them all. 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
@@DJLINX hey man thanks for the sub! I've seen your videos, great stuff! Completely agree. Assuming the quality stays the same I think we'll be seeing Ghost Machine take over a lot of discussions in comics. I do also think we'll be getting other mediums adapted with these characters too. Gotta collect them all!
I totally agree with you, everything about all these characters is spot on, the beautiful art is the cherry on top. Red coat is my favourite mainly because he reminds me of Ichabod Crane from sleepy hollow and I love that character (not as couldn't really care, obviously) and the sadly finished series! But being fair Junkyard Joe is also an excellent character as well, that mini-series was superb! . The separate universe's Rook Exodus hasn't put a foot wrong either, again the art is top notch! Great first video, I've done 30+ so far and still haven't learnt how to edit! Worldtr33 and the Lake are the only two I've read. Enjoyed Worldtr33, but not sure I want to read anymore, felt like it has become a must have this cover book! The way it ended I assume there will be a sequel? But not sure I will be reading it! Lake was Interesting and as you've said in your vid each character had a distinct personality. Think I will wait for the trade or hardback to come out for the sequel, already sold the 12 issues of the first one! Look forward to your next video, and I'm going to look out for Wynd!
Thanks so much for the kind words! I've checked out your videos - they are great! I believe W0rldtr33 will be ongoing (not sure if it's on hiatus), but I'm only 1 arc in. Gotta read more of it, and will no doubt pick up a hardcover if one is made. I'm gonna wait for more Nice House by the Sea to come out before reading it as I think it'll read much better back to back rather than waiting each month. Definitely keep an eye out for Wynd! I think it's great, and the trades are relatively cheap.
