A creative call to arms. Through this channel I aim to encourage, and maybe even inspire, you to have a go at your own creative projects whatever they might be. For those of you from the UK you might liken it to Blue Peter for grown ups. I tackle a range of creative projects and review what I might have done differently at the end, to help you when you take your next creative steps. I hope you join me on this creative journey. Let's have some fun together.

A little reflection: What was your favourite 2024 Christmas present and WHY?
Thank you! Hope you had a good day and all the best for the New Year.
Thank you so much. I hope you also had a great day and wishing you a joyful and creative New Year.
Thank you! May you have a fabulous Christmas and an amazing new year 🎊🎆🎇😀
Thank you so much and I hope you have a wonderful Christmas too. More coming in the New Year, so I hope that you've subscribed?🥳
Thanks. I'm a subscriber 😊
You're very kind, thank you.
Thank you for this fascinating series! Highly informative.
Well explained..Great video
Many thanks Tony. Glad you enjoyed it. Hope you've subscribed?
Thanks! Charming illustrations.
You are my favourite subscriber, thank you. Glad u enjoyed it.
Excellent advice, thank you!
Looking forward to your book, Sir Prancelot. Thank you for the encouragement.
Look love, no offence but stick to something you REALLY know about, and this is not one of them . What you say about chipping is of course true, but a jig saw is NOT the tool for a serious accurate cut . What you have demonstrated is a reasonable way to just cut a worktop to a rough length( Leaving a couple of inches long for the proper cut) so that it is easier to work with. This rough cut could also be performed with a hard point handsaw. Top quality jigsaws are a great tool , but are very often used where they shouldn’t be . Many people watching this will either own,or go out and buy, a cheap jig saw,and these are truly awful, and dangerous . Leave it to a tradesman or at the very least a competent experienced amateur.
How funny that you have actually said something useful, but felt the need to wrap it in rudeness. I have never claimed to be an expert carpenter and I do not claim to be training people to become such either. This is a channel promoting creativity and nudging amateurs to become experienced by (the only route) of safely having a go themselves. I am pleased that you have noted that I have demonstrated " a reasonable way to just cut a worktop". What I was actually pointing out was the existence of a reversible blade, ( which BTW I am not being paid to promote) so that you can cut from the top and see where the blade is going. As you will see from the many comments below , lots of people, including professionals, have found this useful to know. You give good advice that it is always a good idea to buy good quality tools, if you can afford them. I am always happy to receive tips from professionals to share and some professionals are kind enough to help this community by offering their additional advice. There is no need to be offensive, I guess you are having a bad day, but I hope it improves for you. Thanks for watching.
Many thanks for that suggestion Steve and thanks for watching. I've highlighted your comment for a while to help other people. Hope you've subscribed?
This video hass been very helpful! I realize it is a couple years old, but another option could be an oscillating tool. I've used mine to cut baseboards, electrical box holes, and tons of other fine cuts. Super versatile tool. Have a wonderful day!

That's so kind, thank you. I'll be getting back to a bit of DIY soon after a couple more vids on watercolours. Creativity in all its forms.
Belated congratulations on your 50th vid.
Many thanks Ralph, I'll be watching yours on Wittgenstein later. Great to meet you, albeit under very sad circs.
@@BecomingCreative indeed despite the circumstances nice to meet you and Craig, I'd try 'Essence' to start it is much shorter and might not make your brain ache Jacqueline ;-)
What about drilling a hole with a spade bit? I have a laminate countertop that I would like to install a soap dispenser in and I really don’t want to mess up my counter top as they were installed in 2021.
@@alexib5248 To be perfectly honest I have only used spade bits on wood, not laminate. Your problem here is not just which cutting tool to use, but also access to the top as it is already fixed in position. You could use a sacrificial piece of mdf on top to protect the laminate layer, but difficult to see how you could clamp it in position. Also be careful you don't cut too close to the sink. Personally in your situation I would consider just mounting a bottle dispenser on the wall. Does anyone else here have any suggestions for Alex?
Thanks so much! I'm new to this and moved to a property with a water butt irrigation in-situ but they took the connectors and timers with them, so I've been trying to figure out what I need to get things up and running again for my fruits & veggies to grow.
@@natalie4974 Hi Natalie, welcome to handmade originals. I hope you subscribe. There are 3 vids about water butts and I have put links in the descriptions for products I have used but there are, of course others on the market. Whatever you choose, make sure it is compatible with a water butt as opposed to a mains tap. To increase the water pressure raise the butt on a stand ( or bricks) and if you are going away, fill the butt first. Wishing you luck and laughter in your new home
I can reduce the gush from between butt and timer but not eliminate it completely. Any thoughts, the Hozelock connector seems very loose?
Excellent thank you.
And thank you for watching. Hope you've subscribed, there's plenty more nonsense where this came from.
Brilliant, thank you. You make me laugh out loud!
Then my job here is done- apart from the lingering drip! We shouldn't take ourselves too seriously, glad you had a laugh and thanks for watching.
Thank you so much. I've set my system up and water is coming out of the 2.5mm holes. I have a leak at the timer end (bought on Amazon via your link) so will check out your leaks video... Great work April!
Hi I really love it. 🥰 How do you make you cute box for your Garter?
HI There Ana, thank you so much and thank you for watching. I will be making another one soon and promise I will include a piece on how to make the boxes! Make sure you subscribe and you won't miss a thing.
@@BecomingCreative Hi there! I learn so mucho about your Garter lace🥰 thank you
I would have liked to see you sew the elastic to the lace. I am a beginner and would love to make this for my niece for next year.
Hi Renee, you are not the first person to ask for this. I promise to include sewing the elastic in my next one. Thanks for watching. I hope you do make one for your niece, it's such a personal thing and not really much sewing. You really can put love in every stitch.
Alternatively, warm up a piece of hose pipe in boiling water and fit this to the tap nozzle then attach your hose connector of choice to the hose which connects to the timer. Xx
I'd be interested to know if you've tried this and made it work? I suspect that the weight of the hose would eventually mean that it would slip off, leak or come loose, especially if the tap had a thread. Still, all roads lead to Rome. Thanks for watching and for joining in. It's always great to hear from people with other ideas, hope you've subscribed.
I NEEEEEED to see you sew these together…. PPPPPLEASE
Fear not Rosi, I'm here. If you are already at the sewing up stage you have done most of the hard work, now the final hurdle. I don't know if you have used silicone backed elastic ( in which case, see this video ruclips.net/video/_DSgaVEVd90/видео.htmlsi=kXo0LPi2kQIcx3Eu at 26.35) or if you have used 'knicker ' elastic. If the latter, you can put it under the sewing machine, taking care not to catch the lace in the foot. If necessary, just sew the elastic part back and forth under the machine and finish the lace by hand. At the risk of sounding shamelessly self promoting I have written a book covering everything in my garter videos and more if that helps: amzn.to/4bAS4xK I'm sure it will look amazing and what a wonderfully personal and loving present.
@@BecomingCreative THANK YOU, Well, I must get this ONE last garter done.... before a book can arrive. I have installed a soap dispenser in my sewing room for such frustrations.... big grin. The bride cannot know about these.... as it is a keepsake from from Grandma's shirt. SOO she is not around to check fit and approval. Such pressure I put on myself.... afterall this is a BRIDE!!! I shall view the tutorial over and over and over. [signed: the over thinker with bad language]

Oh yes we can my friend. Thanks for watching Kevin. Hope you've subscribed, I'm just working on a quirky little woodwork project now. Coming soon. Have a great day.
A great video, well explained.thankyou
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching. Hope you've subscribed.
I love this video and am half way through setting up my own system following your advice. All going well except that I can’t get the cane topper to fit inside the hose. Perhaps I need it hotter but it seems the topper is just too big for the hose diameter. Wondered if you had any other ingenious ideas!
Hi Sarah, firstly thank you for watching and yes of course there are other ideas- my head is always fizzing with them!!! Firstly the easy one: do nothing, lay your hose out with the holes made and see how much water makes it to the very end, you can reduce the amount that makes it if you just have the end of the hose going uphill a bit and have it up against a plant so that the trickle that emerges waters that plant. If that doesn't work because too much water is making it to the end try a cork from a wine bottle, you can always trim it down a bit with a craft knife ( cutting down on to a board and away from your fingers). If it leaks a bit that doesn't matter because that leak will water the end plant. The cork will also slightly increase the pressure in the hose and therefore the sprinkles that you get emerging from it back towards the tap. Or if this is making too much water sprinkle just turn the tap at the butt down a bit. Hope this helps- where there's will and all that. Let me know how you get on, we will crack this between us.
You are genuinely the most wonderful person! I’ll let you know how I get on
Brilliant work i must say! It's past 5 pm on Friday... beer time in Texas. Have a nice day, cheerio. 😁
You make laugh Wes. Thanks for watching and enjoy that beer. Here in London I've just finished breakfast. Cheers. Hope you've subscribed.
You are the Richard Feynman of leaking water butts! Oh my god. For weeks now, I’ve have been getting progressively vexed at my dripper system. Buying new bits when it didn’t work until I got to the end of my tether and spent 30mins on t’internet for answers. And there you are! Shining like an angel from heaven in her garden. All the info. Short and sweet and to the point. Went searching on all the other hose bits and bobs, levered off an o-ring and stuck it on the water butt tap. Ta da! THE DRIP SYSTEM NOW WORKS. Thank you for saving my sanity and my tomatos.
Oh Ruth you are so sweet. I'm only pleased I was able to help. I abhor leaks, so was determined to sort this one out! Thanks for watching and I hope you have subscribed- it's an eclectic collection of videos, something for everyone and more to follow. x
Please add this tip to your future videos. If you are cutting off more than an inch of the laminate, you can make a practice cut. If you are cutting off 2 or more inches, you can make multiple practice cuts - before you do something you can't fix. This tests the surface, the saw, the blade, the cutting guide, and it especially tests your technique. You can firure out if you are better off cutting from the top or bottom, how hard to press down on the saw, cutting speed, etc.
This was very helpful! I have a metal ornate garter that I am going to be wearing numerous times and have a hard time keeping it up due to the straps in the back not being grippy. Thank you for making this video
You are so welcome! The grippy elastic is here amzn.to/3KuW6wO Your garter sounds amazing. I will be doing a video on goth garters soon so hope you've subscribed. Thanks for watching.
What if the wood is laminated on both sides?
You can put a line on the underside.
Ptfe?
Yes I did think about ptfe tape and would have tried it if the alternative O ring hadn't worked- either that or chewing gum! See Back at the Butt for the drip solution. Thanks for watching and hope that you have subscribed.
OK @ 'I need to see what I am cutting'..I stopped. You explained exactly why the lam. chips then can't understand why Anyone (skilled tradesman) turn the work over.
Yes because you can have the best of both worlds if you use a reversible blade. Clean cut and see where u are cutting on the laminate side. Thanks for watching.
Hi found this video I have this exact timer and set up (though my water burr is higher) having awful problems with leaking when the timer is on 'closed'. You suggested an o ring, I have the simple plastic tap the water butt came with and using the hospice connection. Can you help me out with the o ring adaption?
Hi Suzie, arrgh leaks! I had exactly this problem and made another video about how I solved it. ruclips.net/video/8cPRz8u71M8/видео.htmlsi=0WUPC7cSoUlR3akH Hope this helps. Thanks for the idea with the manual saw. Started to do it with a jigsaw, but that was a mess. With the maual one I could cut it flush by holding the saw against the side of the cabinet. A few scratches on it, but who cares? :)

Always happy to see a new video from you! What is the heat safe material you used to line the countertop?
Aw many thanks. I used Correx which is corrugated plastic just because I had it lying around-as you do, but the more eco friendly option is corrugated cardboard which can be recycled. It is a little foible of mine to flatten and keep large cardboard boxes just in case...
