Compressibility-induced destabilisation of falling liquid films: an integral approach (P. Botticini)
Title: Compressibility-induced destabilisation of falling liquid films: an integral approach
Speaker: Paolo Botticini
Affiliation: Università degli Studi di Brescia (Italy)
Abstract:We revisit the classical 2D problem of a gravity-driven liquid layer down an inclined plate (Kapitza, 1948), relaxing the usual assumption of homogeneous fluid. We set out to answer three major issues. When the fluid density is allowed to vary, (i) how does this feature structurally affect the formulation of a low-dimensional depth-averaged model? (ii) To what extent and (iii) by virtue of which physical mechanism does compressibility participate in the long-wave interfacial instability? To provide the relevant a...

Title: Dispersion in slow capillary force dominated flows Speaker: Professor Joachim Mathiesen Affiliation: Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen Abstract: Transport in single fluid porous flows is a well-studied phenomenon, and a firm theoretical understanding has been established, for example, in terms of continuous time random walks. Very interesting talk ! Great work. I would simply note that it is not surprising that stacking different porous media with "discrete gradation" does not extend the operating map in the space (flow rate, equivalence ratio). Upstream conjugate heat transfer is very likely to be very low between two porous plates, whilst necessary to extend the operating limits thanks to the heat recirculation. So obviously, a continuously-printed medium will work better.
