Good video but I would like to share a little insight. The Redwood Highway passing the area of the Big Tree was not bypassed as a result of the 1964 flood and the loss of the bridge. It was still in use until it was bypassed around 1990 as an effort to cut down on the excessive traffic through Redwood National Park during the tourist seasons.

Great stuff. Possibly the most difficult episode in terms of matching photos from a relatively short time period after the last major eruption, to the present. The present pic with the forest regrown shows how the landscape can change in a short geological timeframe. Some of your pics have strong similarity to the landscape you can see in Yellowstone National Park my favorite place in the world. But in Yellowstone the last major eruption was so very long ago, that the relative change in the general landscape has not varied nearly as much from early views to the present day. Do not get me wrong, there are in fact many changes from year to year in Yellowstone, but we don't have drawings and photos from before eruption to compare to post eruption, and ever ongoing change. You did yeoman work on this episode. Thanks to your careful and accurate research and marvelous commentary, you have created a great learning opportunity, even for an older guy like me.

I've been all over the State and to Santa Fe, many, many, times, and yet somehow I had never heard the 'whole' story of how Route 66 was re-routed to skip Santa Fe. So interesting. Lots of feel good buzzes, just from seeing the first few before and after shots, and seeing just how much is still there, even if later ones show the decay of recent times. Thank you for sharing this. I guess I'm not the only human who likes rocks. Peterson's Rock Gardens needs to be preserved. It's not only a valuable heritage site, but is also an honest example of one man's labor of love. "Maine" says "Hello" Edit: I forgot to mention that I was camping with two friends atop one of the 3 Sisters in 1980 when Mt. St. Helen first blew. The sound we heard sounded like the whole earth was groaning because it was dying. It didn't sound like it was traveling through the air, but through the whole grounds as well. Maybe one mountain conversing with another one for all I honestly know, but that's what it was like when we were camping there. I've never heard a sound so moanful as that one was.

I also just discovered there was a viewmaster, number 362, for Carriage Cavalcade Cars, which was another attraction right across the street from Silver Springs' original entrance. It opened around 1954 and showcased old cars, carriages, and other things, later being renamed to the Early American Museum. It was later acquired by and then moved to Silver Springs proper in 1978, before being replaced in 1991.
