Mainly train and plane videos in the Twin Cities (Minneapolis/St. Paul), but also in places I've traveled to.
Twin Cities & Western at Cedar Lake Parkway
For some reason this westbound train was stopped at Cedar Lake Junction, but that gave me plenty of time to drive over to Cedar Lake Parkway and get this video of them going by a pair of old crossing signals with a mechanical bell that probably aren't long for this world.

2024 CPKC Holiday Train on the MN&S Spur

Due to my work schedule I wasn't able to see them on their southbound trip to Golden Valley and St. Louis Park, but I got out of work just in time to brave the cold and see them in two locations as they headed back north. On the way home from a late night at work I drove by the Nesbitt Yard in Bloomington to see if the MN&S Job was around since these days it seems to only be active overnight. Not only was the MN&S Job there, it also had a Kansas City Southern unit leading! Hopefully this will be a common occurrence, so when I have more energy (and preferably during the daytime) I’ll get some more clips.

Ukrainian cargo airline Cavok Air made a visit to MSP with one of their Antonov An-12s. Looking at FlightAware it appears the flight originated in Leipzig, Germany and flew to Stavanger, Norway, then to St. John's, Canada, and now it's here for what I assume is a fuel stop. After visiting Brainerd I stopped at the Soo Line Trail in Royalton and did a short roundtrip on my bike between there and the town of Bowlus. Fall 2024 Update: The new freight rail connection in St. Louis Park was completed a year ago, which allows the Twin Cities & Western Railroad to seamlessly travel from their track to the MN&S Spur to reach the barge terminals in Savage. The tracks leading up to the bridge were also upgraded with new ties and heavier rail. However, a lot of trees and vegetation have grown on the tracks, and some flooding this past summer has washed out some ballast on the south side of the bridge. Unfortunately there's been no sign of TC&W clearing up the vegetation, repairing the track, and using the bridge anytime soon.

I grew up in Crystal, MN where the MN&S was a daily (M-F) part of life. I lived about a mile from MN&S Junction and there were a couple of road crossings close by so I got to hear both the morning and evening trains. The Hancock air whistles were quiet-even after they added a second one on each unit. MN&S engineers compensated for this by blowing the whistles for a long time and not always to the usual pattern. After Soo Line acquired the MN&S they immediately changed the whistles over to air horns. I was able to buy one of the old whistles. I hooked it up to the plant air where I worked and found out just how quiet it was. It takes a significant amount of air to power just one whistle and while it sounded really cool it wasn’t the best, safety-wise. Still, it’s awesome to hear one again on a near-perfect replica of a MN&S SW.

@@newlearner5560 If you’re driving to Jacksonville you can park at a parking structure next to the Rosa Parks Transit Center and get on the People Mover from there. If you’re taking the bus there’s a few places in downtown you can transfer to the People Mover.

All the noise in American Light Rail systems is ridiculous. Check out European countries. Ahead of the USA at least 20 years
@@peterhiggins4212 Having been to many European cities with various types of rail (trams, light rail, metro, etc.) it’s amazing to see the lack of bell ringing and horn honking. I think it has to do with people over there being more cautious around train tracks than Americans. There’s definitely people over there who also make dumb decisions around trains, but from what I’ve seen there’s less instances of that than in the USA.

I visited Jacksonville in 1992 and the system had just 3 stations back then being more a novelty than useful, with plans showing the extension across the river. The switches look quite massive.
