Nice painting! Though, I have to ask, why did you start using an undersketch? That seems like a big shift from your previous shape-based technique
I’m going to sound like a nerd and probably a fan girl but he always could use sketch but he said he preferred the other method.
It just another method, like decay said, i do sketch before too, its a bit rusty because i dont use it much. Both method have pro and cons. using undersketch i can isolate few things like composition and proportion so i can deal with that early on and when im go into coloring i can just focus on other things like shading, color, etc. Problem with undersketch is you kinda set in stone what you want to do and how to approach it, so the sense of exploration is gone. Not using undersketch downside is you have do a lot of stuff at once (at least in my case coz im bad at visualization) but the sense of exploration more often enrich the end result

I've been drawing everyday and your vids always inspire me. If I may ask, do you always use reference while painting and how much do you deviate from it?
@hholster8981 if im goin to more realistic direction yes, always. References is raw material, if you know the material alrdy then you wont the reference, but in my case, there a lot of lightning, poses, expression, etc, that i havent draw before, so most of the time i will need some references. Sometimes i will try to be as close the references as possible like this one, sometimes i will deviate quite far, it depends on what i want to do with the references

I have trouble using layers. It seems so simple but it throws me off because I'm new to digital art
It takes time to get used to. It also hv its ups and down, if you plan to work at studio then organise layer will be needed. I usually try to keep it at minimum, too much layer confuse me

That shows it in grayscale mode? I really want to use it but I have no idea how to set it up, maybe it does not work on Krita but still want to know.
