Hard to believe it's been almost 100 years now since he died.

Watching this reminds me of my school days back in the 70s having to walking to school in grey shorts. That's when shorts were short, not like in the 40s.

How this dhow didn't win loads of Baftas is beyond me.

I would suggest that this is the greatest drama ever broadcast in British TV.

What is extraordinary is that the series like the subject matter is a focal point in time. 40 years ago this was an amazing country. But the topic of the series is a place 40 years before that. The greatest generation; and all the actors (bar two) actually lived through that era.

@0:50 there is a continuity error . The explosion from the WW2 unexploded bomb cuts to what looks like Stratford locomotive depot in east London with the international freight liner depot with BR blue modern diesel’s and freight , which would be early 80’s when the series was made .
