Great catch! They fight hard.

I can control the drag resistance with just holding the spool while fighting the fish. Since the fish was bigger than expected, I didn't want to adjust the drag mid fight and risk losing the redfish. It is just a different technique that I am more use to than anything else.

Drive down to beach access #6 at South Padre Island, TX. Drive on the sand another 25 miles after entering beach access #6 to get to the Port Mansfield East Cut Jetties. I wouldn't recommend doing it with anything less than a 4x4 truck and check surf conditions too.

A few miles. It is state water snapper so we have to be 9 nautical miles within the coast line.

I did but at first my hooks ups were off since I am use to hooking up to fish on the Texas coast. Many times I watch the locals do it first so I can learn. Catching bonefish in Hawaii for example was very difficult for me since fishing the flats for redfish was the wrong technique. I botched so many hookups.

Treble hooks are the best for fishing under a float with live shrimp but they do kill lots of fish. We use circle sea hooks from walmart (size 2), not very expensive and better hook ups.

I wouldn't try it with a 2 wheel drive. The entrance could be cleared but after that is a roll of the dice to the sand being loose.

Jetties is probably the best when it comes to get bites throughout the day. Buy a pint of shrimp and go to the middle of the jetties. Around the causeway is always good too for trout. Convention center is also good. Places to fish at the island have slowly disappeared. I go to the island with the kids and take shrimp to the surf to keep them busy. Thanks for watching.
