Просмотров 2552 месяца назад
I wanted to try something new with with board build so I am adding a leash loop. Lets hope it goes well! If you are building a board and not wanting to add a leash loop, installing a leash plug is super easy. Just drill into the board using a 1 inch forstner bit. Put some resin in the hole and then push the leash plug in.

Glassing an EPS Board with Total Boat Epoxy
First
Thanks for this video. This has inspired me to start getting materials to start shaping. I’m just curious… how would you measure a 70/30 rail if I was trying to make a board 2 1/4” or 2 5/16”?
Appreciate it man! Good luck and good timing as the final build video comes out tomorrow. As for your question, the goal would be to mark 30% of the total width from the bottom. In your case it’s right around 5/8”. Measure that up from the bottom of the rail and mark it. Then shape your rail from the top down to that mark.
@ Stoked on next video. Will do. Thanks so much.
lol, in europe i had to spend 550 for just one diy Board, carbon, resin, glass, foilboxes, brushes, squegees, vacuumplastic, peelply, ect..
Oof. That’s brutal. I guess that’s one advantage to living in Southern California.

Great stuff, cheers mate !
Thanks! Glad you’re enjoying it!
👍
Sick board!
I always trace a fish tail template with a keel fin, leaves a nice shape. Smaller swallow tails you can just use a smaller fin like a quad rear or thruster fin etc i like cutting it with a jig saw as well
Great tip!
amazing ❤
Glad you enjoyed it!
Been waiting for this :) Thanks
Thanks for watching!
Soo let me ask this though. Why do that verses a leash plug?
@shawn5141 it’s a more classic look. Functionally it offers no advantages. I just wanted to do something I haven’t done before for this board.
Excited for part two and heading there now. Great idea for a video set too. Did you do the tail as a squash? And on the rails did you do the 2"&4" lines for blending? Just wondering if that is the standard you use regardless of shape. Thanks
Yep, it was a squash tail. And yeah, I generally stick to the 2 inch and 4 inch lines as it’s a good base. On longboards I’ll blend it in even deeper as well, but that’s mostly by hand. I’ve also done beveled rails before which are cool.
Looks good. Great to see how you fixed the mistake. Couple questions. How's it ride/take off with the much wider tail? Had square tails before but never wide. And is that ss swell set hat available? Is that your "company"?
The wide square tail will make it feel more fishy. It gives the board a straighter rail line lending more to carving. However, without the fish cut, you can lean really far back on the tail giving you a strong pivot point when you want it. It’s a fun all arounder type board. And unfortunately, the swell set hats were one offs for myself and family. I will 100% look having those available in the future. I wish it were my “company” but I have a day job and shape in the evenings and on weekends.
Well now I gotta wait on the next video. Was quickly bummed when you did the fins and the plug. That part is what I always have been concerned about with the glassing part. Part of the reason the board i made for my daughter had glassed on fins.... Too worried id screw it up. Thank you for the videos. Binging your channel
Appreciate the support! Expect videos soon on the leash loop and fin box install!
Thoroughly enjoyed it. Shaped my daughter a board 8 or so years ago and glassing was the hardest part for me. Only one ive done. Loved this video and have the bug to do another one. Off to watch the glassing video you did now
Good luck! Glassing is always difficult but the most fun once you get the hang of it!
great video thanks
you lack one other ingredient and with choosing a good ratio for all those ingredient make a huge different at final. btw its not fair compare those basic formula to stickybump that its not even close. DM me if u need more details.
Hello i need more information please Thank you
Great Content
Thanks man! I appreciate it!
The blank gift card instead of squeegee is clever! Never thought of that
It’s great for little repairs and small glass jobs. I also keep every gift card after it’s used for the same reason!
awesome work dude- love it. I am a way worse shaper than you but the only comment i have is a tip i saw from Kazuma surfboards , which is using a full- length stanley knife blade for foam rail cuts... especially in tight spots like the fishtail, i like it as its super precise and you can even kind of bend the blade a little for curvture. keep up the vids, so awesome!!
I love Kazuma surfboards. His content is awesome! I’ll keep that in mind for the next shape!
Solid video, really enjoyed it. Good job.
I appreciate it man! Thanks!
Fun and they float hahaha love it dude!
Such an awesome video! Was super engaging and helped me shape my first board :) Looking forward to more!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Nice, what I like to do is fade out the tuck to the nose as well, similar to what you do on the railband and the tuck towards the edge (back). I found that as soon as I did that my rails at the nose stopped looking like 50/50 rails towards the nose all the time.
Something about that nose that is just gorgeous. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoy it!
Pause
Bruh
Candle time!!
Epoxy + water = bad epoxy + wax = bad epoxy + polyester is very bad cold workshop slow set. And some epoxies won't stick to themselves. WestSystem is ok but $$$. All resins aren't the same unfortunately.
Micro crystalline waxes are the core of commercial waxes. however coconut oil 😢
Interesting. I’ll have to check it out! But yeah, the coconut oil was not the play 😂
Loving the in the moment curve balls!
Wish things would go smoother but glad you’re enjoying it!
Current owner of the board here, thank you very much for taking on this board repair! You did an excellent job with this project
Glad it’s working out for you!
He means "NO"
I actually do like it! It’s much better than a traditional wax comb at getting the bulk off. Just won’t get your board super clean. Great for your standard re-wax!
Keep going dude you’ll make it far I can tell
Appreciate it!
why do they still use wax? a pad or non skid would be a one and done. wax is antiquated
There are some non-wax alternatives that some people use, but there’s something special about waxing up a fresh board before a surf.
Kook
Kook
Try to foil the tail a bit more on the next one. Been there, done that, it will make the board a bit more responsive and add some hold.
Big fan. Why when you speak it’s in mono or only one ear. But music comes in stereo or both ears. I have my earbuds in.
Appreciate it. And I’m not sure. I only caught that once it was uploaded this morning. Still figuring out all this audio and lighting stuff. Thanks for watching though!
Allegedly the industry standard is 8 oz, or 2x 4 oz,
I didn’t do a great job explaining it, but I did one layer of 6 oz on the bottom and one layer of 6 oz + one of 4 oz on top. Should be plenty strong!
Why dont you wax the front bit?
Generally your foot doesn’t go that far forward, unless you are doing a lot of airs. Which I don’t haha 😅
Makes sense!
Only if i could surf. Where i live there are zero waves.
Bummer! Looks like you need to schedule some tropical vacations!
@@swellset true! When i do i will surely try surfing
i took ur mom out for dinner last night son. we had.....spaghetti... and used some of that sex wax
Sexwax ???
Only the best!
Its the brand name 😂
Hehe😂
Nice is that a twin fin with that swallow tail or is that some 4 fin thruster set up?
It’s actually a tri-fin thruster. I modeled it after a machado go-fish and wanted it a little more performance oriented.
That's what I meant a Fish! I have a Egart twin and I can ride some massive surf on that baby feels like what living is about! Real wave magnet 🧲
Super fast
Nice job but it kills me to see a long box go in with no fiberglass underneath 😬
Thanks! And I’ve never had any issues without glass under the box. Maybe one of these days I’ll try ripping some out and see how much of a difference it makes 🤷♂️
@@swellset I'd suggest 2 layers 6 oz. That's what I was taught at the factory I worked in.
🤙🏼
Finished product is sick! And it sold for more than what you were expecting so nice job!
Thanks man!
Love how the color turned out! This was so cool to see the process from start to finish between both videos! 🙌
Thanks man! Glad you like it!
Looking solid so far! Excited to see how this one turns out
Thanks!
Love this stuff! Thanks for putting in cost break down 🤙
Thanks man! Glad you like it!
Came out great! Loved the paint splat look
Glad you like it!
I’ve never seen fins like that made from start to finish. Super cool!
It's really starting to take shape! Loved watching you make the fins🤙🏽
