America sure changed! Hope ur still alive an kicking Jim...
Where was this one located im a canuck so dont know smaller centers but mid sized and state will tell me
This was filmed on Priest Lake in the northern panhandle of Idaho.
Thought the names and places were familiar, I live in Priest River so yup. I even own a Diamond Match Company building that my boat is stored in….small world
This was a good time in America when a man that wanted a job found it in the woods. Swinging boom jammers could skid and load. My father inlaw was raised in Sandpoint around the same time. He talked of a sawmill on every corner. My Dad moved to Idaho in 1956 and worked in the woods, trapped and made a living. He trapped as far north as Priest River from Latah county. Beaver, muskrat, mink and the others paid the bills back then. He was a man. I miss him dearly.
my grandfather worked for Diamond Match in Washington state in the ‘30s and ‘40s. Ended his career with Diamond in the 1950’s in Ogdensburg NY on the St. Lawrence River processing pulp logs.
who is the young boy?
Thanks for sharing the films.
Blessings to you my friend 🙂
Loved it! My grandparents, dad and his sister moved to a ranch on the Priest River in '49. The river is still scarred up from the log drives. Lot of work. They did some truck logging, but after the time of these movies.
Thank you my friend
Do we remember when this family was suported by the timber dollar thank these men there hard work still drives us today I wish that everyone new that Idaho was founded on logging, mining, and farming, not toursmin
These are so cool thank you my friend
You are quite welcome I am glad you enjoyed them
long chainsaw in use at that date.
Great stuff here. So i take it these films were kept by the company.
The originals are privately owned by Ralph's daughter.
My grandfather Henry Henricksen was a logger at Priest Lake. We had a cabin on Indian Creek 🙂
That is interesting, I grew up at Priest Lake so I am interested in any history of the area. Did your grandfather have any stories to tell of the logging there.
Thank you for posting this! My first-grader came across the word "flume" and I was looking for a video so she could see it in action. ☺
