Not just an impact on American music, but the world. What an amazing story about an extraordinary instrument. Just a non-musician looking for a new gimmick, unleashed an iconic sound on the world.
My wife and I saw the late Joey DeFrancesco, playing as sideman for Pat Martino, at the Jazz Showcase in Chicago. He was playing the new Suzuki B3 and two of the executives of Suzuki were sitting behind us. I spoke with them while the band was on break and they said that Joey really liked the new B3. We saw Joey a few times and really miss him. What a fantastic player!
One You Tube B3 video I like is Jane Vasey playing with Down Child Blues Band. She does some boogie woogie playing. Also Peter Appleyard is playing the Vibes. It's not just the music it is how much fun they are having. The Down Child Blues Band was the inspiration for the Blues Brothers Band.
Thanks so much for this! Like Hannibal crossing the Alps, or the Hammurabi Stone, or The Flying Buttress! BIG history!! As huge as PULP FICTION, even. And, Little Orphan Leslie, to boot! So much for the Zeppelin, led, or stand alone! ❤ Major!
You say that Hammond invented 3D movies. A quick google search would have shown you that that is not true. 3D movies were invented in the UK in the 1890's. Hammond invented Teleview, a system for viewing 3D movies that was only run for a little while in one theatre. It didn't use the same tech that Polaroid invented that started the 3D craze in the 1950's. So he was "one of the people who invented an early system for viewing 3D movies". Not the inventor of 3D movies. Makes me wonder how much of the rest of the info in this video is inaccurate.
When you're a professional musician (other than organ) and you show up at a gig with a B3 player, it's like landing on another planet. The organ has command of the universe. Sure it plays the bass, rhythm, comping, and melody, all in about thirteen different voices. But then it adds all those rumbles, swells, crashes, explosions, barks and all that other stuff we love. Us poor solo instrumentalists sit on the side and wait for the organ player to have lunch so we can solo. After the concert, people go home and talk about "That guy that played the heck out of the organ. And I think there was another guy on stage too". Thanks, Mr Hammond
The Hammond most likely is the first "portable" synthesizer. Hammond like Rhodes, are names of legendary instruments loved by us all. And the Leslie speaker, like the digital effect pedals used on the Rhodes Piano, has only enhanced a great sounding instrument even more.
A Hammond without a Leslie is like a hamburger without the bun, and without the lettuce, and without the tomato, and without the ketchup, and without the mayonnaise and without the pickles, and without the mustard and without the meat.
Old man Hammond was an idiot to go to war against Leslie and his TREMELO effect cabinet. (Not "vibrato"!) The Leslie cabinet only enhanced the Hammond organ, and that translates into more sales, thus more money. DUH!!

Its not the blues without a big ol Hammond.
Beautiful story of my favorite organ. How about the Hammond t500 model. Love that model, had a built in cassette player.

Forbad? Did you mean forbade? Forbad is not a word.
1944😇
Great, A100 sounds, yet...after being spoiled by the grate Klaus Wunderlich I find it hard to relate to American organ music styles...
the new B-3s will never be the same.. because of the way Hammond organs are played and maintained...they all have a different and distinct sound!
Insightful video.👍🏻
I have an Elegante plus a full set of spare boards.
The God of hammond organ - JON LORD THE BEST ORGAN PLAYER EVER!
Don Patterson Jazz Organist used to play barefoot sometimes, saw in Chicago!

I’m sure a lot of “bridge clubs” bought Hammond’s mechanical card table that shuffled the deck for you, even during the Great Depression.

It’s very crazy how Mr Hammond made this just as a gimmick and it’s so legendary. We still love Hammond organ.
No love for Ingfried Hoffmann, one of the greatest musicians to ever live. He absolutely rocked on this instrument.
A good Organ a good Hammond ruclips.net/video/gYEeJwuaFzs/видео.html

Piękna muzyka!***..
Pretty sure that was super young Billy Hart on drums with Jimmy Smith
I think if it wasn't for black gospel too never mind jazz or blues ...the hammond was made for the pentecostal church .

Джимми Смит, с его длинными пальцами, способными брать самые изощрённые аккорды на клавишах электрооргана, просто, НЕПОДРАЖАЕМ, Честь Ему и Хвала!!!
