Kenmore Vintage Sewing Machine 158.1601
that looks really cool, I wonder tho if it can act as a way to carry MTG cards as well? I would love to fill those bins with various MTG decks, its going to be a cool thing to organize my card collection not to mention that they are all stackable too
I have a 158-923 Kenmore. It’s over 55 years old. It has sewn hundreds of tripled jeans hems with no trouble. It has a full one-quarter inch wide zigzag stitch. My grand daughter can’t wait to get it. Can’t even imagine the amount of money it has saved me over the years. I wouldn’t trade it for the best of today’s machines.
Thank you for this video. Couldn't figure out how to remove bins. Was trying to squeeze the top and that wasn't working. Was ready to give up.
I was just gifted a 1601 but no manual. Is there a reverse somewhere for backstitch? Thx!
Could you tell me where the pedal is connected?
I've got one of these. I really like it.
Awesomeness video thanks alot.
So how do you adjust tension ?
Bottom tension via a teeny eensy little screw on the bobbin case; top tension as per usual with the top thread tension knob on the front above the needle.
I’m on my 5th video and still completely helpless. Seems that in each video, the part that shows threading the machine is not covered in detail. There’s quite a few places to run the thread through and no-one seems to spend much time on that particular part of prepping the machine for use. I’m a 34 year old dude with zero experience. Someone tell me if I should just give up trying to thread this machine!
I'll find you a link to a manual. That'll explain it better than me attempting to type it out to you.

The 1802 is the big sister to the 1601. They share most features.
Thank you! I’m actually working with an 1802 Got it threaded including the little drum underneath but not really sure what to do after that. So far the material comes out with okay looking stitches on top but just a jammed up mess on bottom. I’m sure it’s just a matter of figuring out how to make the thread from the bottom side do what it needs to do. Anyway, thanks again I do appreciate it
If you have a facebook you can join the Kenmore and White sewing machines group and they may be able to help you more
Great video! You told me much more about what I wanted to know than anyone else I've watched on RUclips(especially the 1600vs1700&1800 series. Cute voice, excellent knowledge--I really appreciated it.
How much?
I have a 158.1802 with the Tower of Power, on which I learned to sew (1969). She sits next to her sister...a 158.1803. They are like tanks and I love them. We Kenmore owners are loyal! I would buy another 1802 in a heartbeat!
I got "1802" it's 158.18021 ,it looks exactly the same but like you said 'the difference in the details'
Am selling mine for 100 dollars all materials inclusive anyone interested?
GREAT
How do you start the machine
Light switch is the power switch then press the foot pedal
I’m home in tears trying to thread this machine and get the bobbin in correctly, the instruction manual isn’t very detailed. Can anyone help??
Wow what a machine! I love it.
You waste so much time I wanted to know how you turn it on and off
About 8:48 the button that is the light switch turns it on
Where can I get a manual for this machine???
How much did u sell this for?
Thank you for your patience. I sold it for around $200.
