I have the same reel. How old are these models
Hey, these reels are pre-1960's. They were first introduced in 1949. This particular model was 1953 if I remember correctly, I can try to find the exact year!
@reeldoc3132 nice thanks I bought it from a garage sale. Cool
Do you have any restoration reel video? The only 3 I see here are cleaning videos. Do you have another channel?
No brass brush for cleaning? That's one of my go to's for reel cleaning. Ever try simple green for a degreaser?
use turpentine to clean...thicker than petrol...but less bite than alcohol..not damaging to paint but will remove weak glue..just endure the smell tho..thanks me later... (i service and restore reel)
Now THAT's cleaning a reel! The smallest speck of foreign material must GO! When I dig into a real, I'm not fast, but I'm thorough, as you obviously are as well. Nice job!
Real price
I’ve been on the hunt for a pole with an old reel like this. I noticed though that some reels have cork for the line to wrap around and others don’t. Is there a difference?
If you're talking about cork wrapped around the spool, I personally haven't seen a reel like that. If you could, message me a picture I would be interested to see it! I imagine there is likely no major differences, probably used to keep the line from slipping off the spool when reeling with a lot of tension. A lot of rods (even some newer manufacturers) have reel seats the same as they were 60+ years ago. I think you might see that modern saltwater manufacturers are likely going to have something over modern freshwater manufacturers however.
@@reeldoc3132 Okay, so if there is just bare steel where the line spools that’s normal? Most I’ve found in antique stores look that way.
@@andrewschrotenboer9445 Yep, bare metal is fine - here are some different examples that show the spool without any cork. www.orcaonline.org/frhcr1/ I don't really own any old school fly reels but I assume they don't use cork typically either. In reality, even on my newer surf casting reels I use electrical tape on the spool instead of just wrapping it to the metal to prevent slipping. I imagine what you might have functions in a similar way
I just got a older version of this real at a flea market for 10 bucks the handle barely turned and it was super dirty after doing a cleaning on it now it's running super smooth
It’s a beautiful reel!
😊
Where can you find screws for those old reels I have 6 old reels that have screws missing I have cleaned and polished them up but look bad with a screw gone ??
Just got doing a old phlurger reel it came out great it’s fun bringing new life to something old .
I have a Ocean City Inductor, model 255, great shape but missing the level winder mechanism, any idea where to get one?
Apologies for the late reply, you can try ORCA, the online reel collectors association or mystic reel parts.
So how did you get that handle off? I've got one on the way, I'll clean it up and catch some pike on it this summer.
Good catch! It took a while and I don't think I had any good clips of it - I used a flathead screwdriver to leverage and pop it off. They're made snug, so it took a while considering it's age. You may be able to use pliers (gently!).
Nice Ocean City reel! Use Meguiars Plastic X on the side plates it really works well shines up clean everytime. And thank goodness that you didn't take the chrome plating off like one guy did on RUclips destroying his vintage Ocean City reel forever.
Muy feo tu angulo de filmacion en si no se ve nada
You missed to put back the guide
That fishing reel looks much better than it did. Great work.
I see you figured out how the crank came off lol. Had an old Diawa Millionaire that came off the same way.
It was tough but very satisfying to get off!
Y donde está la parte del video donde arma el carrete ?
I generally skip it as I highlight taking the reel apart I found no reason to keep it in other than dead space - maybe I will add in reassembly next video!
I recently caught a 68# bluecat with a vintage Ocean City 113 reel. Also own a 112. Same side plates and internals as the 113, just slightly narrower spool.
I just bought one on Facebook marketplace from someone in Ohio! Thanks for the video!
For sure, if you need a hand or any information, let me know! ORCA is a great resource as well - the link tho their site is in the description.
Wow! I like the spin at the end!
Great vid Scott...post some more please!
Well done!
What wear you spraying on the reel thanks
Great video and job on this reel
Dude! Thanks for the Flitz love!! 👍👍👀 We appreciate you!!
Amazing video!!!
