I started this channel because I'm known in my circle of friends as the gadget guy. I'm asked often what my opinion is of something. I hope to be able to share with you tips, reviews, opinions, and tutorials about some of the gadgets so you can make a wise choice with the money you spend, and so you will get the most use and enjoyment out of what you purchase.
I'll be posting videos that may just be test footage, there may be videos where I share my thoughts, and some that will be instructional in nature.

Aeroband PocketDrum 2 Max Initial Test
Testing the Aeroband PocketDrum 2 Max
Nuances to work out for sure. Overall fun once you get the hang of it, which i am still working on. Only had a couple hours with it before recording this.
Taking lessons from Mikeslessons.com. Used the drumless click track from Session 1 for this test that i originally submitted using my Alesis Nitro Max. Can't get a rimshot or prevent the high hat closing sound from triggering without recording the midi then editing it out.
Did not use any of the standard kits from the pocketdrum. Connected via USB midi to my MacBook Air, used a drum kit from BFD3.
Frankenstiened my audio workflow. Crackling may have been audio clip.

Nitro Max (and Pro?) - Getting the bell sound from the ride cymbal
Просмотров 64828 дней назад
I'm new to e drums and heard the bell sound in demos of the nitro max (and now the Nitro Max Pro). After emailing tech support who gave a quite unhelpful generic response, something to the effect: "module doesn't support the 2 zone 3 zone cymbals that have a bell, but if you strike the pad a certain way you can get the bell sound". Couldn't figure out how to get the sound consistently until now...
Insta360 One RS - Skiing wipe out demos horizon line stability and power of selective POVs in post
Просмотров 329Год назад
Insta360 One RS mounted in a backpack with the selfie stick. Posting to demo how the cam maintains the horizon line even when its tumbled around when my wife wiped out.. Fun to see different views, focus on the action you want to highlight after the fact. Definitely wouldn't have been able to do this with a non 360 cam. Wife and I laughed at this remembering the decent and wondering what happened.

Oculus Quest Comfort Mod - DIY Counterweights
Просмотров 6 тыс.4 года назад
I got an Oculus Quest about 2 weeks ago. First thing I noticed was the heaviness in the front. While the Frankenquest mod with the HTC DAS is a great mod, the first thing I would recommend is counterweights. I researched the counterweights options that can be bought for $20 to $50.00, and well I didn't want to pay that for just dead weight and thought I could rig something up that is comparable...

Really nice video. Thanks so much!
Thanks for watching, glad you liked it!
I received this for Xmas and they calibrated just fine but NO audio whatsoever. I can’t get ANY sound out of it. I tried connecting it to my headphones and/or Bluetooth and Nothing. I think I might return these
@al3xx3991 did you plug the headphones to the correct port. It needs to be plugged into the Line Out. Another user didn't plug into the correct port.
So: is this still a scam? Sorry for went directly straight to the point, but 😊
Scam. In what way? The product is real. The main thing is to have realistic expectations of what it does and doesn't do. It won't ever substitute for a real acoustic or electronic drum kit.
@ thanks for the reply. yeah, totally agree with you. But the question was due to the previous version of the product caused a lot of confusion and not real expectations to customers who bought and paid money based on post production audio that “influencers” posted everywhere; the “real” fact was that they went always off synch, also it was almost impossibile to follow a basic rhythm due to mixed audio pieces received from a single hit, and every time someone tried to explain this also in official company channel comments were deleted by demonstrate only a false advertisement. Anyway, I’ll give it a try, because the idea needs to be implemented. Cheers and have a wonderful drumming 2025!
@Francesco-ow4ud thanks for clarifying. I didn't get the first one. Here's a currently unlisted video I shot before this video attempting to play to a click track which I referenced. My audio set up is in the description. No post production used to sync the track and what I played. Just midi for a different kit sound. ruclips.net/video/YK9ekXO56Y4/видео.htmlsi=qYw6Y4reRARUgLcU I'm still working on where this fits for me.
@@thiswaylabs thanks mate! Now that’s what I’m referring to, and your video clarify better that a real improvement seems have been made in this sticks version, I’ll definitely give it a try as I’ve got also some external vst midi package to run with! And of course, at the base of the concept, there’s the entertainment first, not sure the substitution of drum instrument, but something could be done for sure also in rough recording. Thanks again! And happy new year fellow in drums! 🔥😎
@@Francesco-ow4ud Glad that helped you in your decision. I think people need to set the proper expectations. I don't think this is for a completely new drummer that does not have an acoustic or electronic drum kit / knows some basic grooves. 100% not a substitute for those. I'm still a beginner drummer. I find that it's nice at slower tempos and also can work on wrist and finger exercises. Have to spend more time in it. Been working on my homework for Session 2 on a pad and my e kit at the moment. Appreciate the discussion. If you haven't liked and subscribed that would be appreciated :p. Helps me make more vids, etc.
i really dont get it.. i tried to calibrate them like 200 times and i cant do that..color on the sticks stays white/blue only and wont change which means that they didnt calibrate..any help me friend?
How to Activate the Color Changing Indicator on Your Drumsticks (Pocket Drum 2 Max) If your drumstick color indicator isn't changing, follow these steps: Ensure everything is properly connected: Turn on your Pocket Drum 2 Max, drumsticks, pedals, and adapter. Make sure everything is Bluetooth-connected. Activate color change: Hold the "VOICE" button for a few seconds to activate the color-changing feature. Now, your drumsticks should light up according to where you point at! Enjoy playing!
Calibrating does not change the led mode. To get the color changing mode press and Hold the Voice button on the adapter until the leds change to blue. Calibrating is completely separate from getting into the mode.
@@thiswaylabs thank you so very much
@@DamianDoi you're welcome.
Thanks for this! I’ve received as a gift and I’m trying to find anything on how to make the most of them. I’m taking lessons on an acoustic kit but would love for these to be a viable practice option at home.
Glad it helped. I'm just learning drums and have an e-kit - Alesis Nitro Max. I have a private video of a Session lesson that I tried to replicate on these and generally went ok. Not sure about faster tempo fills. Haven't gotten comfortable with not having a surface and rebound on those. But I think it can have a place when you're traveling to work on even independence at slower speeds. I've tried it to work on singles and double drills at slower tempos. Doesn't replace my pad though when increasing tempos and the need for rebound and fingers for me. but it seems some of the more advanced drummers might be able to do it. Let me know how it goes!
100% not good for beginners, intermediate or pros. You’ll pick up terrible habits with these, and truly aren’t very good made
@@dylanturner2063 I have since bought a second hand Alessis kit and there is no comparison. I think there is a lot more research and design that is needed for the Aeroband, I'm really hoping they take the feedback and improve their product. In the mean time, @thiswaylabs is doing a great job on setting expectations and how to make to most of this prototype.
I have the pro and I hit specifically the A on the alesis 🤣 to get it consistently
@MayorDesu playing more it makes sense that it's about the velocity or intensity of the strike, but seems like focusing on hitting a certain portion of the stick or like you a section of the pad naturely causes the strike to be intense enough. Trying to figure out how to replicate in something like BFD, SSD 5.5, or ez Drummer.
I noticed this myself. Hitting with the flat of the stick is about the only way. Original nitro model
Glad to hear someone else having the same experience. Others say you need to hit it harder, but that alone didn't seem to net consistent results. Thanks for chiming in!
@@thiswaylabs i see what you did there (chiming in- like a bell?)

People right now you can get the Speediance Gym Monster for 2500-2600 with free lifetime membership until the end of April.
Any updates? Did you finally get yours?
Hi Jonathan. Thanks for your inquiry. Yes I got mine shortly after the review and will be doing an update soon. I expect to be getting some accessories in hopefully the next couple weeks to include in the review. Their logistics to deliver the units are improving. Even Tonal had several months delay last year, and now I think Tonal is indicating about 2 weeks +/-. Quick feedback: Overall, my wife and I are happy with the machine. Most of the issues revolve around software improvements. Feel free to check out the official speediance FB group as well. Let me know if you have some specific questions you want me to answer in my follow up video.
Why didn't they put the sensors in the back the would be balanced well
why the quality looks so bad?
i want to buy it, do you recommend it?
I do. however, I qualify it with it also depends what you want it for. But one thing that I didn't show in the vid (I may do a proper narrated review video) is the stills that you can pull out after, not knowing at the time what was captured. In my last reply you see the 2 other videos I created with the 360. Most of that was to demonstrate movement of the camera and being able to reframe after. You've probably seen crazy zooming in and out from others. I tend to want to minimize those really crazy 360 fisheye perspectives. Depending where you are, Amazon has a really good return policy. Best thing I recommend is to try it indoors for whatever return period is indoors to get a feel for the software and perspectives, or watch a ton of youtube videos. I tried an early Insta360 camera in 2018, liked it back then, but returned it to wait for the hardware to mature. I like the modularity of the Insta 360 One RS right now and will be keeping mine. Here's an old cycling video from 2018: ruclips.net/video/cg-fCxvTlxI/видео.html and another going hiking: ruclips.net/video/7q6Sz9Ki818/видео.html. Thank you so much for your questions. these interactions mean a lot to me. Appreciate you allowing me to provide my opinion in your decision making. It's certainly not inexpensive especially if you want to get the other accessories.
please upload more using the normal boosted 4k camera one
I actually have only used the 4k lens as a webcam which is great! Main reason I got the Insta360 One RS is to be able to reframe footage in activities like skiing with my wife because, my wife hates having to think what and when to start a camera. Plus I'm usually never in a video because I am the one usually filming. Check out my video with her crashing here: ruclips.net/video/XlMGwVWtNBc/видео.html you can see as she tumbles around how you can still reframe the video and how well the camera maintains the horizon line. I would not have been able to reframe the video that way with a non-360 lens. Here's another on the lifts that I would not have been able to capture with the 4k boost lens. ruclips.net/video/XXKfb7RjjIs/видео.html
Hi, how do you add the statistics like hight and speed and etc? Thank you.
There are 2 ways to add GPS. 1) via the insta360 app on your phone. You need to have the app on during recording and enable GPS, or 2) using the new insta360 GPS action remote. I used the action remote in this case.
Where do you get support if you're in the US? Coming from a Chinese company, I wouldn't purchase this unless there was a US support company.
Hey Chris. Apologies for the delayed reply. Completely missed the notification on your message. They have after sales support Whitney from Speediance over in the FB group has been super responsive. Though support isn't in the US just yet, they recently opened 2 warehouses in the US, west and east coast.
if you ever do an review it would be nice to really go in depth about cable work. i already have ordered one but it will take like 2 months to get it, i have a "real" home gym with rack, barbells, weight etc but i dont have room for a functional trainer so this looked like a good alternative. also it seems like its possible to set it to be heavier on some parts of the movement and also do it to failure with it going down in weight when you struggle. i probably will only use it for more of a bodybuilding style training and use free weights for strenght, i think some other people would want to know how good it is for those kinds of movements but maybe its just me. i also did order the row seat and bluethooth handles so if the rower is decent and the ski cardio is okayish thats also nice to know.
Hi Olav - I've been using it for about 3 weeks now getting to know it. I'll do a follow-up video. I wrote up a looooong post in the Speediance FB group (under my personal FB account) with suggested software improvements. But none of the feedback I have are deal break in my opinion. Hardware is generally solid. What are you specifically looking for regarding cable work? How much detail are you looking for? Example? Thanks!
it was so heavy at the front i cant take it then i found an old 500g ankle weight, and bought some velcro straps to strap it behind the oculus, now finally it’s comfortable to use
Whatever works to balance it out. But yeah, once balanced it 's much more comfortable.
Please use this and write a detailed review. It's been well over a year and still nobody is actually using it and making honest reviews.
Thanks for your comment. I'm in the official FB group and there are several supporters that received it overseas. I used it briefly but once I receive it I will definitely do a more detailed, honest review. Let me know what things you want to really know about it, questions you have and I'll do my best to address them in a follow up video. Based on the little bit i was able to demo, I am excited to use it, but didn't want to mislead anyone with inexperienced opinions. I've used the Tonal, and if needed I can go down to the local Tonal store and compare again. Not an inexpensive purchase so I want to make sure people have as much information as they can to make a wise decision based on their goals, needs, and financial considerations.
@@thiswaylabs How many inches tall is the machine?
@@donaldhuntley4028 approximately 6.053 feet / 72 5/8 inches (1.845 m) tall according to my rough live laser measurement. Speediance indicates a 1.85 m height. www.speediance.com/products/speediance-home-gym?spm=..index.header_1.1 click on the specifications tab there for their advertised dimensions.
How exciting!!! Thanks for the great video.
Yeah now I really can't wait to get ours delivered. Such a tease to know its out there, but delivery is being delayed.
Im thinking of ordering also... How do you like it and how does it compare to oxefit?
@@jimmyboonprakong1124 Thanks for your question! Sorry I couldn't intelligently offer an honest opinion about OxeFit as I haven't tried it or seen it in person. My opinion starts and stops at it's size and cost. It would be out of my list of contenders purely because I couldn't fit the unit where we live. It has some cool features like balance detection, but I'm not that hardcore. Then of course the cost + subscription. I've tried Tonal and Forme at our local mall, so I can speak a little more to those units. I'm still waiting for my Speediance to arrive and hope to post a couple videos on that. Subscribe and turn on notifications if you want to be alerted. Let me know if you have some specific questions regarding the unit itself that may help you decide one way or another.
Thanks for the idea. My solution was not, shall we say? As elegant as yours… however seems to be working, and I’m a function over form kind of guy. Using change was a good idea!
you should have seen the iterations prior to this. they were not as "elegant" (if you can even call this that, but I'll take it =p). I'm definitely function over form first. In the end, whatever works to help save some $$$ to use on things you can't DIY. Appreciate your feedback!
I also had this idea of using coins, and also measured in a scale, but I thought it was more uncomfortable after 200grams
(I tried on a quest 2 with official elite strap)
@@Bleitebr wow really? So anything below 200 grams should be fine? I was hoping it would just get rid of the front weight
@@julian-vanilla8379 precisely. Your head will just feel heavy and slower if you try to add 500 grams to make a perfect balance. Something around 200 or under already takes off the pressure from the face enough I would say
Great minds think alike =p. I'm sure I'm not the only one to think of coins for sure. The Q1 is heavier than the Q2, I didn't have an update vid for the Q2, but commented in one of the older replies. I tested the Q2 (but returned), and definitely requires less counter weight. I just had not come across anyone implementing it the way I did at the time (doesn't mean it hadn't been done before. just didn't see it). This DIY is certainly open to quick experimentation. Don't be afraid to test. And yeah - try to minimize. Thanks for contributing!
I’m hanging a literal potato behind mine.
ha. that works as well =p
This was very useful! Thank you! This deserves more likes
Thanks for the affirmation Joshua - and lol I agree it should have way more views and likes! :p. I haven't changed my setup. Works like a charm for me.
Oh my, I got crazy neck pain from beat saber with quest 2 and I was thinking how I could balance it, was thinking of using an external hdd but this idea sounds perfect. Can’t wait to try it after work!!
Hope it works out. Really helped me. Of course mileage will vary. Look forward to hearing what your experience is after.
Oh and I had the quest 2 (returned it since I realized my quest 1 was sufficient for my needs) and made some mods to the stacks. The quest 2 requires less weight. Obviously with my mod, you can adjust as needed.
Just use a portable charger
Some people have a portable battery, others do not. I had one, but 1) the one I have is way too large => was uncomfortable, added to rotational weight, awkward to attach, 2) mine did not provide enough weight, so additional weight was still needed to balance. Since I don't play long enough to need a portable battery, I did not want to spend extra $ to get a smaller updated portable battery. Also for those who exploring / unsure if they will benefit from counter weights, this would be the most cost effective way to test IMHO before going out and getting something else if they want, or get a portable battery, in additional to any other accessory to help properly attach the portable charger. To each there own. Many options available for this category of mod.
7:00 A pretty balanced unit is 17 to 19 ounces (480 to 540 grams). Good information.
Thanks. The quest 2 will be less. I tested with the Elite Strap and I had roughly 11.7 oz. So it will be +/- depending on what strap you put on the Quest 2. You'll also have to modify the stacks a little on the Elite Strap because of the width of the main strap.
@@thiswaylabs Thanks for the updated figures on the Quest 2. I won't be upgrading from Quest 1 though. I still have my Oculus account and don't want to connect to a Facebook account. The new TOS states that Facebook will be recording playspace, gestures and other data. They don't specify, but we all know they're selling that data to who knows who. I have 2 more years of using the Gen 1 Quest and hope that a new Standalone comes out from HP, Valve, HTC or someone. So long as it's as even just as good as the Quest Gen 1 and won't require a Social Media account and be recording me, I'll gratefully switch headsets. When that new headset comes out, maybe you can make another tutorial on balancing it. Thanks!
@@thiswaylabs Oh, and I should mention, I found the coin balancing technique cool and very customizable, I personally went for a battery pack to balance my Quest. Definitely not as versatile, but the extra battery life is a real benefit. 2 hours isn't long enough for me. Your technique is way more creative though and I applaud that.
@@thiswaylabs how much do you think with using the standard strap?
@@PichettoFratame its been a while id say start with the weight I suggested, just leave room for adding or removing coins and don't tape up right away - thats what I did. Weight will also depend how the strap sits on your head. I.e) lower or higher in the back.
Great idea i like it 😅 i just hope i don't ever look at my headset as a piggy bank 😄
Thanks! Ha. yeah, hopefully you won't need to withdraw funds from this...

Justin Nguyen Thanks for the positive comment. I used a combination of the iPhone and the free video editing software HitFilm Express. All the 360 footage points of view were all done using the Insta360 iPhone app. Then I combined the different footage in Hit Film along with my voiceover. You can do it all on the iPhone though using either iMovie, Filmora or something even more flexible feature rich like LumaFusion.
