Surely if the only way for that battery to explode is lack of electrolyte, then it was either poorly made, allowing for sulphation to take place and the plates shorting, OR the battery was over-charged over a long period? I note the paint marker writing on the batteries said 9 May 20. I'm guessing that is the installation date? If one battery failed after only 6 months, either it is poorly made or has been over-charged for an excessively long period of time. However, sulphation and plates shorting usually leads to the battery "self-discharging" and becoming "dead". Curious, and the problem should have been picked up during previous testing of the lifeboat engine - the batteries are easily accessible and visual inspection of the "magic eye" and measuring the battery voltage should have indicated something was wrong. Also, if the electrolyte had leaked out through cracks or damage in the battery case, that might have been visible. Curious...
