I really appreciated your input on ways to grow old carefully and purposefully! I'm almost 61 and like most people my age, have been through many ups and downs which does affect those of us who have reached their older years. My husband and I live in a 55+ community and the atmosphere, while beautiful, is so quiet. Yards and streets are empty other than the 1 or 2 people I pass on my daily walk. It's too quiet, and almost appears abandoned. People just sit inside of their homes as they age. It really is sad but I get it; life seems to nearly stop when the kids move out and start their own families. While dependence on your children may not be a good idea, I think that living near them and seeing your Grandchildren more often, is good for those of us who are aging. Studies have shown that those who live close to them, live a longer more mentally healthly life.

My mom is in a assisted living. They really don't help the aging process, especially since she has osteoporosis so bad she can no longer walk and confined to a wheel chair. The main thing they don't do is feed her the right foods like you talked about. They don't get enough protein. If her muscles were strong it would help her brittle bones.

I quit smoking 13 years ago and the only thing that helped was a Rx for Chantix. It is a difficult drug to take, but I followed instructions exactly and was able to quit with NO cravings. I could never get past the wanting a cigarette, and the Chantix allowed me to quit without always wanting to smoke, it stopped the yearning. I highly recommend it!

Am trying to get control of my late to bed sleeping habits. Lots of reasons for doing this, but I appreciate your suggestions which I will try.
Taking care of your appearance is about maintaining self respect. A neat, well groomed appearance communicates prides in yourself and about your life, reinforcing confidence in yourself and in your dignity. On the other hand, a neglected appearance communicates withdrawal, apathy or disengagement from the world. It can erode your self- esteem over time leading to feelings of inadequacy and even depression. . Think about how you feel after a new haircut, or you wear an outfit that fits you really well. That boost of confidence can ripple into other areas of your life improving your mood, interactions and overall outlook. Start with small steps. Schedule a haorcut. Invest in a few comfortable pieces of clothing or polish your shoes. . Revisit hobbies or social events that encourage you to dress up. Taking care of your appearance is reflection of your inner vitality and your decision to stay engaged with life' s possibilities. Maintaining your appearance is a simple yet powerful way to express ypursel in the vibrant life you continue to live. .
