How to fracture your village and seperate friends and families? Have the “grifter” Joel Orchard pounce on your village after a natural disaster. Have him dig his parasitic proboscis into your town’s affairs with no manners and no thought to anyone else except his own personal interests and agenda. Make sure he can get as many grants as possible so as to avoid any real work. Make sure he “love bombs” the vulnerable individuals in the community and won’t allow them to think for themselves so they effectively become his disciples and defend him at all cost (at the expense of their friends and family). Make sure the financial reports he delivers aren’t broken down into net, gross, C.O.G.S., overheads etc in a clear transparent manner. (A pie graph will suffice) Make sure if he sets up a charity that almost 50% of the grifted monies received go to “Staff Expenses”. Be sure that he has a self inflated opinion of himself that is above asking permission or what others may think of his schemes. And most importantly!!!! ( don’t forget this part folks😊) Be sure to have Joel censor, block and delete any questions or comments from the original inhabitants of the village in regards to transparency, accountability and financial policy. Because every good scammer knows that by being transparent you lose a solid part of your grift/business model. The model that relies on people never getting truly “better” from the natural disaster that occurred, because heaven forbid that happens and the government funding dries out. If this was to happen Joel may have to actually go and get a real job. And that silly notion seems to go against whatever the fabric is that he is cut from.

Love this chat with Stephanie! So many harmonies in our stories - i was also a gal who Read-in-the-corner! And made kitchen cosmetics beginning in my teens. I got a couple of books by a Brit on making wine from fruit and veg in my 20s, whilst my (former) hubby was making beer (we even gleaned some hops from edges of the hop yards post harvest!) ... he is a botanist, (as was his mum who loved to 103) and taught me plant id and wild harvesting, and we gardened chemical free in raised beds .... I'm in Western Oregon, with a similar climate, and was tickled to find perennial kale seed (homesteaders kaleidoscope kale from Experimental Farm Network), chard and herbs also overwinter well here and we have a wonderful year round Farmers market where i source lamb, local walnuts and hazelnuts, and things I'm not growing or don't have enough of! I'm involved in an edible landscaping project, with 30 beds 4' across along a street in our old granery district, examples of what you can grow in small spaces - and are open for folks to harvest as they walk by! I tend a tea garden, with herbs and a tea camellia - and even the lemon Verbena came through our cold winter!

This is an important conversation. I find it very difficult to talk about my grief for Gaia, even with aware friends and even fellow activists sometimes, because meetings are outcomes focused. It still feels very taboo or a downer to mention it more than jokingly or fleetingly, and because it's so hard to talk about, it's hard to process and move forward. There are just a few safe avenues like Climate Cafes or workshops like The Work that Reconnects or ones by John Seed.

Dear Morag, Thank you for sharing this wonderful talk with Graham Bell. I haven’t listen to him before. I suddenly realized that it has never occurred to me what being a teacher really means. I thought, that one can be a teacher when one knows something. But listening to Graham Bell just taught me that it is so much more… and that learning to be a teacher might be something that I would now consider doing. I am very sorry that his soul has left this life… and thankful that I had the opportunity to feel his personality and the energy of a teacher that I would like to be. I send you kind regards and much appreciation for your wonderful work and for being a good listener to all this inspiring people. Claudia

Thank you for this interview. I actually have already listend to your podcast with Liz on Spotify 😊 I used to read a lot… as a kid and until I turned 40 but then stories seemed just to repeat itself…. and I switched to „how to do things books“ and now I read very little, but if I read it is fiction. If I come across a story and is well told… it always makes my day! So how do we tell different stories that reach people and create change or maybe only hope…. Recently I had the idea that actually there is only one way to solve all the problems in the world and that is if we as a society learn to live with each other in a peaceful and prosperous manner. And from that I realized too that if this had happend like say after the WWII we would not be struggling with climate change now or any other biodiversity issues…. or any other unsolvable problem for that matter. The reason for this would be that we have enough creative people on this planet to be able to solve any problem we currently face. We are occupied with fighting each other… and this starts with the first day we go to school! We learn that if we want something we have to take it away from somebody else, fight opposite opinions in order that our project will work… etc. it’s always being against something so that we are right. By doing that all our energy… or too much of it is lost. So I decided for myself, that I would stop reacting on what other do or don’t do and just keep on doing what I think is a good way of doing things. In short stop using other for the reason you think things are not going yr way. So the stories I would tell, are stories of people who do just that…. Successful without needing to point out how difficult everything is and how too many people are just not on the right pass…. Leading by example might sometimes be a lonely road… but it is a good one. So I am not into protesting…. I am into doing! And you Morag have been one of the people that helped me find my permaculture way and if I wouldn’t write this hear you would have never known. So therefore I am sure, that there are many more like me out there having had the opportunity to learn from you. Again… what stories do we want to tell? What do we want to inspire in people? Liz is a good example…that is why she is so loved and respected too. I am a happy reader of PM … I just bought Liz Z. ebook Grounded because of yr podcast…. and I am definitely looking forward to her next book! Take care and thanks again for all the good stuff you bring into this world. ❤
