Martha Barringer, at 100 Years Old, Remembers the Siloam School
Martha Barringer, the only living alumni of the Siloam School, speaks on her experience attending school. This is the only interview with Martha inside of the school that she attended over 80 years ago. She is joined by her daughter, Maxine Barringer.
The Siloam School was a Rosenwald-type school constructed in the Mallard Creek community in Charlotte in the early 1920s. Like all Rosenwald schools, it was groundbreaking for its modern, high-quality construction and its mission to education Black students in the rural South. The building was a school for about 20 years, then was converted into a family home and then into an auto garage for the same family.

Lauren and Angel... thanks for broadcasting this. Not sure how it took me 3 years to find it . . but I 'DO' appreciate it. Captain James Jack was my 4xGreat Grandfather and a true patriot in our Jack family's history. My wife and I were fortunate enough to attend the dedication of the statue in 2010, as honored guests... a weekend we'll never forget. I 'hope' to attend the 250th Celebration in 2025 (If I'm still around...but I hope to be). Perhaps I'll be fortunate enough to meet each of you. Our hosts back in 2010 were such a blessing.

Liberty emphasizes the importance of individual rights and the limitations of government power, while freedom is more focused on the ability of individuals to pursue their own interests.

@@RafaelFernando117 Thank so much your opinion and interpretation. By the way, in this year, there is election of American president. In especially, is there relationship as "Pro-life or Pro-choice" about Liberty or Freedom ? In Japan, we generally don't have difference between these two words. Japanese people simply express it as "Jiyuu(自由)". But, constitution of Japan certainly exist difference as two words in English translation. So, Of course, Japanese constitution is explained as just "Jiyuu(自由)".
