Nice little airplane!!! Subscribing to your channel!!
Thanks a lot!
How long was the plane out of annual?
Thanks for the comment! A new annual was performed with the sale, I believe it had only lapsed for a month!
How about you put those keys in your pocket
That would also work. However, being able to visually confirm the magneto status gives me some comfort!
Is it really necessary to kick one leg up or can you just pull down on the prop.
Depends on your style! Many ways to do it, but I prefer this method.
Good video
I’m just glad to see someone reviving an old airplane everyone around my part of the world thinks they need a brand new glass panel and composite air frame that cost more than my house! I personally would be happy with an old tripacer or champ basically anything that will fly me around cheap
I like your style! 😎
Hello, there is an important question: is the four-stroke less polluting than the two-stroke? Being environmentally friendly is much better
Preserving the environment is very important, and check whether this information is correct or not
Yes, most would consider four stroke engines to be more efficient and environmentally friendly!
What an adventure
I love the mustang
Hello, just found your channel. Thanks for sharing. I am thinking of doing the same thing, who are you using for insurance? Thanks, have a great day.
Thank you for the comment! Hope that you continue to enjoy our adventures!
I’ve hand propped a lot of airplanes and every single time I worry about “P” lead failure when priming by pulling the prop through. If I were you, I would try to use the flat of your hands almost like you are starting the plane when pulling through when priming. Better yet, maybe not pull through at all? My airplane has a starter and that C85 starts just fine by priming without pulling through, and just engaging the starter.
Interesting....good thoughts!
My thought also, and why lift one leg up……
@@terrydawkins9936 Well…there is some controversy on the leg thing, but in my opinion it is helpful - especially with larger radials. Swinging your leg forward then back with the pull does help move your body out of the way. Some people don’t agree, but I’ve hand propped a lot of planes and always used this technique and am still alive with all my limbs. Different strokes for different folks I suppose. I won’t hand prop a three bladed propeller. Hand propping nosewheel airplanes, like a 172 is riskier than a tailwheel airplane but I’ve done that too. Hand propping a Cub from behind is the easiest and safest. You just flip it through.

Funny, while you were trying to go north. I was bringing a C150 from Newfoundland to Ontario. Same smoke from fires in eastern canada. I was stuck in Sept-Iles Quebec for 7 nights. Finally got airborne on the 8th day. Always exciting to take a cross country trip in small a/c, you never know when you will return.
hello are you still satisfied with your mercury 3.5 hp engine?
I am, it's probably the best 4-stroke engine on the market.
@@peterschnaubelt1903 how fast is it on that boat ?
Cool dude! Im at 10C....we got stuck in Chattanooga for two days with snow in Jan 21, ferrying the S19 here from Daytona FL. Good times! Holler if youre ever going to to 10C.
Oh right on! I ran into low ceilings coming home on a flight back in February, actually had to tie the Chief down overnight at 10C! Profile pic is the late Claude’s bird as well. Shoot me a follow on instagram @pete.schnaubelt
Que tal peter saludos tengo el mismo motor pero sale bastante agua por el enfriamiento talvez tienes un problema en tu bomba de agua
Thank you for the comment and suggestion!
Yikes! Glad to see you flying safe, don’t die please
Glad to see an older homebuilt get some attention. I bought an EAA biplane in 2000 and flew it 8 years. It had a C85. They're not great performers but they still give that nostalgic biplane experience.
You sure don’t see too many around! How do they handle? Squirrelly? This one also has an 0-290 on it….
@@peterschnaubelt1903 Mine had a modified T-Craft gear that was pretty narrow. It was pretty spicy on the ground.
Fun. Just subscribed. Keep them coming. I used to teach at Campbell up until 2004. It was nice to see the old airport again.
Thanks for the sub! Awesome to hear I brought back some memories, lot more to come!
you have some work ahead of you for sure.
I think you may be right! 😬
Hi man watching from Kenya 🇰🇪 how do you manage the magnetos and no power in your plane
Thank you for watching sir and great question. Anytime I am outside the airplane other than starting, magnetos are off and key is VISIBLE on the dashboard. For starting, you turn magnetos on after the engine is primed (engine is turned 5 times with fuel on). I chock both wheels and like to tie down the tail when I am alone for safety.
Enjoyed your journey! Hope you keep them coming.
Give us a tour of your airplane and maybe a little history...
Great suggestion! Might be a good future video…..
Pretty awesome! I forgot how far the wildfire smoke had spread 😮. Must have been scary! 🫣
You can't go wrong with an Aeronca! I had one for years and loved it! Looking forward to your second video.
10 years ago I bought a ‘38 Chief. I flew it home with my instructor and soloed in it. Haven’t flow in 5 years, life gets busy with things but am going to make extra effort to get back at it this year. Wonderful plane!
Thank you! Best of luck in reviving your Chief!
Love this! Following b/c I'm planning on buying my first plane soon as well (need to build hours). Can't wait to see what you have planned!
Congrats Pete! What a great sale - love that the owner put you up and knew the plane. I sold my virtually new 4Runner to buy our Aeronca and have zero regrets. I did all my training in SuperCubs and thought I was settling for an old Aeronca to just build time and have had a complete and total blast in it. They grow on you and now ours is part of the family as much as our old dog: ruclips.net/video/PZ_1jmpElfM/видео.html
Thanks Mike! Aeroncas sure are great airplanes, and your L-16 is beautiful!
Pretty amazing! 😊 Beautiful views! Can’t wait for part two! 😁🛩
