Hello, we're a couple in eastern Tennessee living on 2.5 very neglected acres and our elevation is roughly 2,600 feet. 2022 was spent focusing our time & money on a gut rehab of the existing 1100 sqft house. 2023 we expanded our garden adding a 50 foot long caterpillar high tunnel. Bees are in the near future along with lots of fencing! We'd really enjoy meeting other folks in the area that having similar interests of homesteading, gardening, house repairs, canning, cooking, etc. Thank you for stopping by our little channel.
Farmers Friend hoop house vs. high winds from Hurricane Helene
Hello.
First, we are still praying for those affected by Hurricane Helene. The generosity of those giving support and donations for the local communities here in eastern Tennessee has been a blessing! Our church ran out of room to store all the donations, as did many others taking donations!
The Farmers Friend hoop house came through the high winds of Helene just fine! No damage other than a few small holes in the green house plastic from small limbs.

Another tip on growing under plastic in a high tunnel. The greenhouse plastic will need washed but you have to be careful if you use anything other than water, and never use bleach. Garlic was planted the first part of November 2023 and harvested June 15, 2024. Grown inside our hoop house which helped keep them growing throughout the winter. Air dried for a week, then prepped for the freeze dryer which ran about 30 hours to fully dry. Hello, I did the old school digging drainage ditches around the hoop house with a shovel and wheel barrow. 7 to 8 hours to dig about 100 feet of ditch line which is good exercise, lol.
