Cartoon Planet segment. Rump-a-dee!
I know that Mr. D is considered an all-time terrible advertising campaign, but I think it was just way ahead of its time.
Mr Delicious was ahead of its time. With the type of humour this has, it would have been a bomb in 2024
It’s ironic that I actually loved Rax as a kid
"Rax. You can eat here." sounds like something that would've been in Freakazoid.
Looks like really early computer animation.

You went through all these market research pros and the answer they came up with is that your chain is broke, depressing and on its way out. Basically they were spot on. It still obviously worked to some extent, like for that guy at 11:56 who came all the way from Albany NY, the land of steamed hams, because of the ad (although I'm not sure you can take all these "customer reviews" all that serious; finding Mr D relatable? surely if you're a certain age but wanting to be like him when you're 10? just no). But it had become too meta.
This ad campaign was just too far ahead of its time.
🖤🖤🖤
Rax must have been desperate
Looks like Mr. D hired himself. Bill Welter is pretty much a real life version of him.
What spokesperson promotes a fast food experience with so much angst and hostility? Its like im reading a damn script in one of my more unfilitered moments. And he takes questionable vacations? Wtf lol
Filed for bankruptcy just months after Mr D came along.
With the poor animation he was far more suited to the radio ads.
Mr. D sounded like a mob capo in the radio ads.
This feels like something Daniel Clowes created in an alternate reality
Theres something about Mr.D where he can make a comeback, and everyone wouldnt mind it
Boy this documentary aged poorly. That said, I like Mr. D.
He may not have been able to save Rax from bankruptcy, but he's certainly been able to put Rax's name out there years after their golden age, and I don't think many of us would have even known about this chain had it not been for this perculiar cartoon spokesman.
You can tell how old this is by the statement "He's kinda like a Simpsons for grownups".
2:48 Looks like Mr. Delicious was based on this guy.
The ad campaign that sank a company.
This feels like the most elaborate setup for the joke Deez Nuts
"Rax: you can eat here" i mean, they arent lying
Theres still a rax open not too far from where i live, i may go there just to tell them mr deliscious sent me, see if they even know what im talking about
I love how he doesn’t have much material, so they keep doing the same three shots.
Ahead of its time.
Please, show this in every business school.
I think Mr. D was actually a young(er) Bernie Sanders.
Quagmire from Family Guy borrows from Mr. Delicious
I had never heard of either Rax or Mr Delicous until some random RUclips clip this morning. Quite the rabbit hole to go down
They needed this mascot on top of the sign
This didn't age well.....at all
I like it.
Mr Delicious actually resembles a girl I used to date. Seriously! Diggety D!
He reminds me of something that I would see in old copies of Saturday Evening Post at my grandma's house. She had a bunch from before I was born and when I was a kid and we would go to visit her I would sometimes end up reading one of them when I'm hanging around the house all day trying to come up with stuff to do. She also had a bunch of Reader's Digest condensed books and a bunch of other stuff like that from the past.
This is like a mockumentary along the lines of "This Is Spinal Tap", or even something like “The King of Kong" which, while real, is pretty surreal in how serious they take it.
King of Kong was an actual documentary.
@@jonnyrollinsYes. I should have clarified that what I meant was that while it was real it felt like a wind up because some of the stories and characters in King of Kong are just so weird and surreal. The sincerity which people speak with in that documentary reminded me of this Mr Delicious video.
Yes, Mrs. Delicious he didnt show up in Family Court because he has to TRAVEL FOR HIS JOB to pay your outrageous child support. Oh, and since you abandoned him and took his kids, you dont get to worry about what goes on in his hotel rooms. HE IS A MAN AND MEN HAVE NEEDS.
“Vacation in Bora Bora with two young... friends” Did Mr. D go on Epstein’s plane?
They were literally 4 decades ahead of their time with the humor on display here.
3 decades
So...how'd that work out for you guys?
That noise 0:40 and 10:50 when he pops into existence from his universe 😂
Mr. D only eats at quiznos now...
This is like [Adult-Swim] before [Adult-Swim] existed
The Deutsch Agency is Donnie Deutsch's company. Had his own show on NBC for awhile.
Minkie Boodle!
why did i watch this entire thing
If you want to show how Mr Delicious is really popular with the customers, it helps if you have customers who like him, rather than people who obviously been paid to read their lines about him.
The fact we are still talking about Mr. D 25 years later after RAX went belly up tells you all you need to know.
This feels like a late 90s early 2000s Adult Swim satire.
William Foster, Michael Douglas' character from the movie Falling Down had to be based on Mr. Delicious.
