Excellent tip on the direction of the spline and the clips. Before I watched this video I was having a hard time cutting the screen and the razor kept slipping and cutting the face of the screen frame members. Turns out I was putting the flat side of the spline out. So tomorrow I will put the flat side facing in and I hope to find that the slippage of the razor cutter is minimized. BTW I haven't seen anyone on the videos using the hook blade on the spline tool for anything. Could you please recommend what that blade is useful for? Great video

I did not know about the clips and I was all set to install screen. I ended up using some leftover round spline and cut in two inch peace’s. I was able to temp the screen with them and remove as i installed the flat spline in the new screen. I hope this can help someone also.

6 years later and your video is still helping folks. I am about to replace the lower sections of my pool enclosure and have been dreading it. Your video seems to give me a little more courage, because the last time I tried to replace a screen was at least 15 - 20 years ago and it didn't go so well. I will order those clips, which are now branded as Lifestyle (as shown in your link), even though some reviewers say the material that the clips are made of is brittle and break easily. Thank you for your video. Here's to hoping my install goes well!

My spline is not going in like that. Are there different sizes? Could mine be too big? Home Depot only has one size the guy said there is only one

Thank-you for doing this tutorial on installing flat spline. Due to some bad storms in the FL Panhandle January 9th, one of my big screen panels was ripped in half. As an active female, closing in on 70, I decided to tackle this project by myself. I had already ordered some other clips which are so much more difficult for me to squeeze shut. I wish I had watched your tutorial first. I found you when I was having a heck of a time installing that spline. What took me almost over an hour on one section of spline turned into only minutes for each section for the rest of my project. Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you! Your instructions saved my sanity, downplayed my excessive speaking to myself in French and helped me get a project completed most men wouldn't tackle. This is "the best tutorial on RUclips to show you how to easily and effortlessly screen...using FLAT SPLINE!"

In order to do it tight you hace to pull the screen tight not just roll in the spline. Your best bet is to go right to left. And that patio can be done solo in about 3 hours.

I've done it without the clips real easy. Just start in the center, and push the screen in with the roller, then work it in left to right across ,that holds it in enough for you to then put the spline in. Then do the bottom start in the center, then I do the sides.

Love these clips, been using them for years now. This is the only way to put up a screen solo and to save from using to much screen. I maximize my screen by measuring out the exact size I need with an extra inch on each end. I'm here because I can never remember which way the spline goes. Thanks for the reminder @ 4:00. edit. So I checked the link and it shows I purchased these back in 2017 for $20+ship. Now they are $12+ship. These are worth it at either price.

I have the same frame you do. If the track is 1/8" what size flat spline did you use because i currently have .190 spline that keeps popping out with wind. Its 90% sun screen. Thanks a million for the advice and the best tutorial video ive seen on this.

Outstanding real-life screen flat spline installation tutorial. All the the others either showed spline installation without screen, spline installation with screen on a horizontal work surface, or no demonstrated use of the clips. Tutorial successfully made a real bitch job a walk in the park. My wife and dogs are also grateful - my frustration and frequent f-bombing ended after viewing Jason Cook's tutorial.

Phifer screen and spline manufacture says flat spline ok either way, round side down more common but round side up ok too.

Please tell me what size spline you got. I got the .315 flat, but it seems too big. But I think you're using the same Lowe's frame I have, so maybe it is the right size and I'm not pushing hard enough. Please help. I'm really struggling with this.

I roll in screens for my job. I’ve never seen those clips before, but they could be useful for a beginner. Personally I think just one clip would be useful at the top somewhere to hold it up. Then I start the top, and make sure it’s all lined up. Right side is next, don’t gotta pull it just keep it straight, then when you get to the left side you gotta pull it, depends how strong the screen is as to how hard, same with the bottom, then you just fold the screen excess towards the screen and slice down the outer edge of the spline, and it gives it a perfect cut. I learned through a lot of frustration as the RUclips videos were lacking when I was new at it, but practice makes perfect so they say!

Thank you so much Sir. I needed this info. My hands and body ache. I did about the same size porch and it took me about 2 hours to figure out how to take out and install the new spline. I lost my patience couldn't figure it out so went to home Depot and replaced 300' of new flat spline with .160 round spline. Got to work on porch and found it to be much more easy. In the end it looked awesome till the winds picked up and later half the porch went to shit. I just looked at it for a while in pain scratching my head like what the F@#$ happened. Started to look for answer's but to no avail till I found your informative video. Gotta go and get back the flat spline i previously had but this time thanks to you Sir I'm on a mission. You made that look so easy. I'll be kicking my ass later cause I'm to tired to do it now. Lol. Bless you and thank you.
