crazy, very good job bro!! Where is this forest located???
thank you! some friends and I used to have a treehouse. It's in a small village ;)
love it!
Thank you!
Loved the Karma/Solaris part. Being stuck on client jobs in Redshift, I still haven't dived into it, but lookin at what you're doing here, I think it's my next thing to study. Keep up the great work!
Hello Simon! Thank you very much for your kind words! Appreciate it! Let me know if you have any questions! At first Solaris can be a bit overwhelming but you will soon find out that its quite straight forward and easy to adapt. Good luck!
Hi Jan a nice breakdown of your grain Setup - schöne Grüße aus dem Ländle 🤗
Danke dir vielmals!
Amazing breakdown. Very detailed and easy to understand. Thank you very much Jan!
Thanks a lot, Dima! Happy to hear that!
Okay this is 🔥
Thank you very much!
tutor pls
Amazing that you did the whole thing in Houdini. It just shows how powerful this tool is. It's truly all in one package and one needs no plugin if he knows what he's doing. Did you render it in Houdini as well? Karma XPU looks lit.
Thank you very much! Yes, Houdini is super powerful! Love it hehe. I have rendered it in Houdini with Redshift. Now i use Karma for some months. Its great and you dont really need any other third party package
Amazing! Loved it!
So much valuable KARMA/Solaris info. Thank you!!
Happy that it is useful! Thank you!
So good, thank you! "Not a professional" is an huge understatement. ;)
Thank you very much!
Nice but have a lot of trouble with the rendering part.. like for the wood stack, where did you get the 'displayColor' attribrute? I never saw you create that and it doesnt work for me.
Hey! If you look at 1:28 you see i have a connectivity node to create a class attribute(an attribute for each connected piece). In the color sop node i use the attribute to create a random @Cd value. If you work with Redshift or Octane,... you can just read in your @Cd attribute. But in Solaris some attributes have different names. @Cd is one of them. @Cd is called "displayColor" in the USD context( no idea why...) so you have to use that. Another way would be renaming your @Cd attribute and then you can just use the exact same name what you choose, for example @stackcolor, @randomattributenametouseinsolaris. Hope this helps a little bit :) Let me know if you have another questions or if my explaination is chaotic haha! Cheers!
best one i saw this year
Thank you very much!

How long did it take you to make this? And how long have you been learning Blender for, to get to this kind of level? It's totally insane what kind of quality stuff you can produce. I started Blender with the Fountain exercise but sadly dropped it.
Its not Blender, its Houdini :) It took about 50 hours from collecting ideas to final rendering.
quite easyy🤧
Hey, one question. I have been trying to get the hair to fall down less. But no matter how high I set the bend stiffness - the result looks exactly the same. What am I doing wrong? In an other file I see a clear effect even with comparatively marginal increases.
Hey! It depens on what you have now. Doe the hair stretch? Or are they losing their "curly look" effect? The first one shouldn't be it here since you use 2 or more substeps. If its the second issue you need more constraints to hold the volume of the hair and the base shape. Difficult to say without having a look
@@janhebein3D I guess I would say they stretch but retain their curliness. I wanted them them to bend down less, especially close to the root, so I created a falloff (controlled by the curveu attribute which I created in the last resample before the vellum stuff) But no matter how much I increased the bendstiffness, the result didn't seem to change. Decided to "cheat" a bit and decreased the gravity instead. At least that did something.. What is confusing me is that I used the bendstiffness falloff successfully in another setup..
@@metaturnal Mhm like i said its hard to say without the setup. I am sorry
@@janhebein3D No worries. It is basically your setup. A different chicken model and animation. I lowered the gravity and and density and now it looks close to what I wanted.
@@metaturnal Happy to hear it works! Have fun! :)
😎😎👍👍
Wow! Dude! Awesome work! Thanks for breakdown.
Thank you very much!

Haha thank you, Landis!
Congratulations on winning the best collection for this years Mardini! I'd love to see more breakdowns, but the audio is pretty quiet and the quality could be improved a bit. Keep them coming!
Thank you for your comment! Mhm weird. I just tested the audio and video quality on my laptop + smartphone and it sounds and looks fine. What quality issues do you talk about? Thanks for letting me know!
YES!! thank you <3
Have fun! :)
Beautiful💞
Amazing, can you add the link to download the hen model I cant find it
Thank you! Yes! truebones.gumroad.com/l/kjRQu?layout=profile
Thanks a lot!!🤩
Youre welcome :)
How would you approach a groom that you don’t want simulation just animation along the moving mesh? (Like just translate the transforms from the base mesh to the hair so they move together?)
Thats super simple! First method: Create guides, use a guideform to deform your guides based on the mesh animation and then create more detailed hair with a new hairgen. In the hairgen you need, like in my setup, the static mesh and the animation mesh. Second method: Create your complete and final hair and then just use a guidedeform. I found that using the first method you run into less problems because you deform your guides first. But either way works fine for most things. Let me know if you have more questions :)
Very short ,concise educational video without hollows
Thank you! Happy to hear!
The video I've been waiting for! Thanks!
I hope you like it! Have fun :)
great demo. you made a timeshift and inputed it into the last hairgen after the vellum sim. i dont see you piping it back in for the animation. would that not lead to just a static hair without the initial vellum sim? or it is only for the demo
If you have guides and want to create more hairs and also want them deform following the guides you need to meshes for the hairgen sop. First one is the rest post of the hen model. Timeshift node freezes the frame, creates an rest attribute and then goes into the first input. Second input are the guides and the last one is the animation of the hen. You see if you look at the objectmerge it brings in the same "OUT_hen_walk" null. Just one is freezed to have the rest pos for the hairgen. Let me know if you understand it :)
@@janhebein3D yh i totally understand the process. i actually missed what you piped into the second input. thanks for clarifying. cos it made me wonder why. i see it now at 11:17
@@kwesikwaa Happy to hear! Let me know if you have other questions :)
My question, who are you man? Houdini artist or vfx artist or just a artist? 😮
Just a dude who finished school some weeks ago and who tries to find a job :)
