Great idea for long pieces like you're working with :) For personal firewood, I work with 1m lengths and a small metal Einhell sawbuck. My neighbours laugh at me (I don't care, I've been an arborist for over 15 years so I know my way around a chainsaw a lot better than they do!), and IMO lifting a log onto the sawbuck each time is far easier on the body than spending days cutting bent over! Cool video :)

still use a, “BOW-BAR”, On 2 of my Husky saws. And a bar to drop my oak 32 inch Bar. And for Bows, I use a 20 and a 24 inch Bow Bar. For men like me that know how to use them there’s no way in the world you will ever get a bow bars away from us. We can cut wood all day long that’s laying on the ground no matter the size and our back never hurts us because we don’t have to bend over. NOT-EVER. On a bow bar you have 2, half-moon shape thick teeth / (dogs another name for them, ) That, you can rest in the dirt and it keeps your saw blade up out of the dirt and just as soon as your 2 teeth leave the dirt and the bow starts to cut its way up the side of the log, the 2 dogs I call them, automatically will rest very very firm, against the log. Every person that has ever used a bow bar are still uses one, both of these men know exactly what I’m talking about at this part of what I am saying. And to everybody else if you don’t know what I’m talking about when it comes to what a bow bar looks like, do this. A. Go to eBay. In the search bar on the website type this in. “Bow Bar” There is a strong possibility that before you even get to the end of typing those two words this will pop up like a piece of toast so fast. “ Bow Bar Chainsaws.” It did for me. Anytime I went to type Bow Bar. I have never been able to finish typing both words before the word chainsaw pops up. Anyway when you get on the page of them, you’ll see several different pictures of bow bars. Some of them are excellent items. Some are not. There is one that is far as I’m concerned if it’s not a brand new one then it is for all intents and purposes practically brand new and it’s still in the plastic. And it’s orange and you can see it very easily and on the plastic is the name STIHL. Them and Husqvarna used to sell them. And so did practically every family-owned chainsaw shop from Northwest Florida Northwest Montana. Nowadays it’s almost impossible to find them because the bar industry was very very good at brainwashing people that these things are so dangerous to use and nothing could be further from the damn truth. They were very good at brainwashing people that the kickback on them were very dangerous. Oh really? Negative. The kickback on a bar is 100% worse and a Bow has 2 dogs to stop! STOP THE KICKBACK. A BAR DOES NOT. Many times I showed people how I could deliberately make my bow kick back and I mean kick back hard. And, every time those 2 dogs would grab the log so fast, and stop the kickback. Not so with just a regular bar. The only thing to stop a bar from kicking back is your quick wit and your strength. That, Is. It. Period. And no the government did not outlaw these. That is a flat out lie that Mom & Pop saw-shops put out from state to state. More than one shop I went to with somebody and I just remain quiet and they would act like they wanted to buy a bow and sure enough the owner of the shop would say we can’t sell them because of the government and I would speak up and say oh really? then quote the law. Quote the statute. They cannot. NOT. A. ONE. CAN DO IT. It was the first thing I ever learned to cut firewood with. And I could use my Huskies with the bow you will see in the plastic to Cut down trees oak trees that ran from 12 inch to 18 inch in diameter. WITH ZERO PROBLEMS. No even though the guy selling this one on eBay is out of his damn mind charging that much, back when you can find them in any state for sale the most you would ever pay was $129. I believe in making a profit too but I don’t believe in raping people like this guys trying to do. But even though it says for sthil, I know what I’m doing so I know how to take that bow and make it fit several of the husky chainsaws that people use on a regular basis to cut firewood with. Only slight criticism, at 3:30 I wouldn’t steady the log with my leg. It can leave you off balance if the chain catches and causes some sort of kickback and your leg is then uncomfortably close to the chain. It takes a few seconds longer but just put an offcut in front of the log to stop it rolling as you cut.

This is my first year buying full logs for firewood. The guy laid down three logs and laid the rest (42) on top of them. Unfortunately they're large trees and stacked in a pyramid, too heavy to roll by hand and I'm not standing on top trying to cut them! I'll have to start pulling the top ones off with the ATV. I love your method! Wish I had seen this 2 weeks ago!! LOL

I have a neighbor who is 80 years old. He gets 100 cord delivered and works from the TOP of the pile down. I've never been able to do it that way. His back is made of steel I'd say. I'm on you tube looking for a way to work a pile which has you NOT throwing every stick out of the way. THAT would be worth watching!

Al, its amazing to see you process wood! I'm in my mid 30's and order tandem loads in log length like you. Even at my age, and with the equipment that I have, my body is aching at the end of a day processing wood. Cudos to you! Its great to see that you're getting out there and getting it done!

I've seen folks do this before....cut their wood into rounds, then stack the rounds. Seems like you're making extra work for yourself. I pile my logs somewhat like you do, cut into rounds, have the splitter set up next to the end of the pile, split them right then, and stack directly in a shed. Cuts out stacking rounds, then later splitting and stacking the split wood.
