Our home in Esterillos Este!
Welcome to our home in Costa Rica for the month of March! This Airbnb has everything: an awesome pool, a big yard, spacious bedrooms, a full kitchen, internet, and is only 1 mile to the beach. Win. Win. Win. We had so much fun in Costa Rica years ago, we just had to come back to show our kids. It is already wonderful.

Two day vacay in San Jose
Просмотров 1774 года назад
We made it to Costa Rica!! Our Airbnb was not ready for another couple of days, so we took a much needed break from homeschool in San Jose. A place with a pool is all we ever seem to need. And we may or may not have watched a volcano erupt while we were there. We spent two days in San Jose. No complaints here.
Our LAST night in Guatemala.
Просмотров 2014 года назад
Guatemala has been an amazing month for so many reasons. Volcanic views, delicious coffee, and beautiful courtyards are just a few. What we will miss most about Guatemala is the wonderful community of people we've met along the way. This month has felt the most like home to us during our seven months of travel. We will 100% be back to visit the many friends we've made here. Guatemala, we love you!
Our days in Antigua
Просмотров 1084 года назад
One thing we always do in a new city is explore the local markets. The markets in Antigua are amazing!! In this episode we visit the market as a family stocking our fridge with the very best fruits and veggies. We also did something we don't always get to do- spend time with each of our kids individually. This helps to keep things interesting while traveling . It also gives our kids that one on...
Caoba Farms
Просмотров 1724 года назад
We take a short walk to Caoba Farms. It is an organic farm near Antigua with it's own butterfly garden and fresh farm to table restaurant. The food is absolutely delicious and the kids loved the atmosphere: live music, local art, and even a playground! It's a perfect place to spend a Saturday afternoon in Guatemala. You can also shop at the farmer's market, grab lunch, and learn all about butte...
Roasting Marshmallows on an ACTIVE Volcano!
Просмотров 1824 года назад
Today we hiked to the base of an active volcano, Volcano Pacaya ! This is an absolute must do in Guatemala with kids. After the hour and a half hike UPHILL we were rewarded by roasting marshmallows over a lava pit. The hike was not as easy as we anticipated, but definitely worth the views from the top.
The BEST views of Antigua, Guatemala!
Просмотров 1324 года назад
We headed out in search of the very best views of Antigua. Our first stop was Santo Domingo del Cerro. This park overlooks Antigua offering beautiful views of the city and volcanoes. If you head over to Hotel Santo Domingo, they offer a free shuttle that takes you to the top. The park is filled with art from famous Guatemalan artists, a fantastic restaurant overlooking the volcano , and a kille...
Making chocolate how the Mayans did in Antigua, Guatemala.
Просмотров 2644 года назад
We signed the kids up for the Bean to Bar Workshop at the Choco Museum in Antigua. This is an absolute MUST when traveling with kids in Guatemala! It is also their favorite field trip of our round the world adventures! They did everything from separating the husk from the bean, to turning it into a paste, to making their own chocolate bars, to creating traditional Mayan hot chocolate and tea. J...
Adiós México! Vamos a Guatemala! Making our way to Antigua, Guatemala.

Time to leave Mexico and head to Guatemala. Guatemala is a country we were really looking forward to, but this was a tough move for the kids. The cenotes were the most fun we've had all year. Like many countries before, saying goodbye is hard to do. We will for sure be returning someday soon. Until then, hello Antigua!
Chichén Itzá and Tulum Ruins. The Amazing Mayan Ruins of Mexico.

We've seen Cenotes, We've seen beaches, now......it's time for the Mayan Ruins! They did not disappoint. It is absolutely amazing they are in this condition. What is not as amazing, is our ability to navigate the time zones.
The BEST beaches in Playa del Carmen!
Просмотров 3434 года назад
Some of the best water and sand in the world can be found in the Yucatan Peninsula. Playa del Carmen is no different. The beaches were absolutely gorgeous. We made sure to hit as many as we could. We even celebrated a birthday by heading to a beach we had never been too!
THREE AWESOME CENOTES in Playa del Carmen!
Просмотров 3,6 тыс.4 года назад
Our favorite part of Playa del Carmen was definitely the Cenotes. The kids loved them! Cliff Jumping, swimming, and snorkeling always equals FUN! Because we had a car, we were able to check out three different Cenotes all within 30 minutes of Playa del Carmen. Cenote Azul, Cenote Cristalino, and Cenote Garden of Eden- all must sees with kids!
First time in Playa del Carmen! Let's Hit the Beach!

It was sad to leave Querétaro, but we were super excited to head to the Yucatan Peninsula. We had never even been Cancun before! The first few hours in the Cancun airport were extremely hectic and draining. We thought we were out an iphone x. After a couple days of settling in, it was off to a great start.
Tacos, Carne Asada, And Goodbye for Now
Просмотров 1304 года назад
Besides the people and the scenery, the number 1 reason to visit Mexico is the tacos. Hands down. They are the the best food on planet earth. We made sure to eat tacos at least 8 out of the ten night that we were in Querétaro. We also got to have Carne Asada with my host family. It was definitely sad to say goodbye to Zach's host family, but we are so glad that we made this one of stops on our ...
Awesome Things To Do in Querétaro, Mexico. Markets, Pyramids, and...Iceskating?

We are certainly getting the special treatment in Querétaro. We got the inside scoop AGAIN! This time at El Mercado de La Cruz. The local market is always something we like to hit up, but this time, we had someone showing us the ins and outs. We also checked out a pyramid that is right in the middle of Querétaro. And to top it all off, we even found something to do that probably isn't hight on ...

I’m home schooling for the first time. My teen school he is traveling with my husband but I am confused about how he’s going to turn his work to his teacher because in this homeschooling program he has a teacher not a parent I don’t know if he’s going to turn it in online or what I’m going to have to ask the school this homeschooling thing is confusing me
Your kids are such good swimmers!
Great video! We are doing the first trip with our 3 kids (6, 8, 11) to PDC for a month. So excited for them to catch the travel bug ✨

Their son will marry a Cambodian wife
you guys still here? I just binge watched a bunch of your videos, how are you all doing during the pandemic?
Me too! Yes what is “The Happy Reality” family upto?!
Very awesome! Love your approach to homeschooling and in general raising your children in the real world!
Can't wait to watch more of your videos. We are just starting out homeschooling and living in Nicaragua and I'm looking for a structure and material ideas that will work well for us.
Hello, do you take books from the states or do you use all your resource from the computer/tablet?
It looks fun it's magic family memories for life good on you !
would you mind sharing a link to your airbnb host? my husband and I are looking to visit and it would be nice to check out a well trusted airbnb host !

If at all possible- ask for Mr. Vanny to be your tuk tuk driver. You will thank me later! Truly an authentic experience all around!
So are you guys still living in Queretaro?
Ugh, I wish! We came back to the states last March during the pandemic. Unfortunately our travels are temporarily on hold. That being said, Querétaro is always a city we will return to!
Hi, i just discovered your channel, enjoyed the video and subscribed. -Marc
Thank you so much! Traveling was truly the best thing we've done so far!
11:20 That warmth... This is the meaning of Mexico. When we try to explain Mexico we have no words to describe, well this images, this kind of goobye explain everything.
I completely agree! I feel so lucky to have experienced Mexico in this way. So many people only travel to the touristy resorts. Those are nice, too. BUT, they don't know what they're missing!
Love this!!!! I really would like to do this with my children!
It was so much work, but very worth it in the end! Thanks for watching!
Hello, any legal advice for traveling while homeschooling?
Well, every state is different as far as what is required to homeschool. Some require proof of education with a very specific checklist, and some are more lenient. So because every state has different requirements, I would research what is required and expected in your state of residence and go from there. I hope this helps a little. Good luck!
And also would you recommend renting a car!?
Renting a car is always so frustrating abroad with all the hidden fees. That being said, we always prefer to explore the area a bit and a rental car always seems to make more sense. I think this ultimately just depends on where you are staying. Location is everything!
Hello! Looks amazing! I'm going there in June. What resort do you recommend a family of 5 ?
I'm sorry we didn't get back to you before your trip. Hopefully it was amazing! We used Airbnb for 90% of our accommodations, and will likely continue to do so. I always read the reviews before booking any accommodation. This goes for hotels, resorts, activities, etc. It gets tedious at times, but always end up worth the trouble.
Awesome info! You guys are great👍
Thanks so much!
Great series! We are dreaming of doing the same and appreciate it😊
Go for it!!! It was easily the best decision we've made so far.
Super cool. Good job putting this family video together. It was so much fun to watch. Great editing, music, scene transitions, and such. I'm a family man who lives here in Siem Reap with my Cambodian wife and children. Your video is super inspirational and fun.
That means so much to hear, thank you! Out of all of adventures around the world, we had the most authentic experiences in Cambodia . We still talk to our tuk tuk driver, Mr. Vanny . We are great friends with our Airbnb host and his family, and our videos from Siem Reap are my absolute favorites! Thank you for watching!!
Awesome video, fun to watch, great editing, good information. I have three very high energy kids in Siem Reap that I need to keep busy doing fun, educational and culturally enriching stuff with.
Thank you for taking the time to watch! When we returned to the states, my youngest daughter told us she really missed riding in the tuk tuks in Cambodia. It's just funny how out of all the fun stuff we planned, most of what they remember are the little things. Cambodia was awesome for both!
That's hilarious. The "keeping change" thing is REAL! I remember that in Italy, also!
Thanks for watching our video! I'd love to return to Italy...it has been way too long!
Bronchitis or covid? That was about the start of the covid time. Glad you guys recovered. I watched all of your Cambodia videos. Really enjoyed watching you guys in my motherland.
Pretty sure just Bronchitis, but wouldn't that be wild! Cambodia was amazing, thank you for checking those out! Our experiences there can't be beat. Thailand was equally amazing, though. Definitely our home away from home.
Hi, I found you when I was looking for homeschool travel videos. I am still young (20) and I won’t have kids for a long time but I’m moving towards a nomadic lifestyle and I want to learn about homeschooling for when I have kids. Thank you so much for sharing!
You are welcome! The best of luck to you! There's so much information out there, but the best education is always through experience. Go for it!
Great video. We may retire in Mexico in 3 years and kind of have our short list down to Queretero, Puebla, Morelia, Guanajuato, and Oaxaca City. Our daughter built a house 30 minutes outside of Queretero so likely we’ll go there. We speak Spanish and have lived abroad before. Any downside to Queretero we should know about ? Thx !
Querétaro is a fantastic city! We had nothing but fantastic experiences there. Do yourself a favor and hit up Tacos Mario. You can thank us later! Good Luck, and happy retirement!
Hello, Probably Don’t remember me but I’m Matthew. A Classmate of Emily in Kindergarten and as of right now in Horine/Kiefer! Hope you are having a good day. Anyways see ya!
Hi Matthew! Thanks for watching our videos. We are just about to finish editing our "around the world" trip! Emily is happy to be back in school to see some of her friends.
Amazing video! Can’t wait to go back there ☺️
100% We absolutely LOVE Querétaro!!
Hey there. So I want to go to Cancun in 2021. Found this nice place in PDC never been to Cancun etc. called boho chic. I don’t speak Spanish and would be going solo. Would you do it?
Most definitely! Language is very rarely an issue for us. I wouldn't let that stop you. That being said, it is always a great idea to learn a few basic phrases and practice with the locals. We find it is always appreciated if we at least try. And with any unfamiliar situation or new city, make smart decisions when traveling alone. Don't wander around late at night, keep a close eye on your belongings, and do a little research before you go. Happy travels!
Is that market village in Tesco
Yes! Luckily it was right around the corner from our Airbnb. So convenient!
Good videos! Enjoy watching your family exploring the market! We are moving there soon!
That's great, you will love it there! You have to try Tacos Mario! Soooo good!
Ain't that something? The first time you go ice skating is in Mexico, 2020 strikes again. Glad you guys had fun.
Thank you! Colin always tells us that Mexico is his favorite country from our "round the world" travels last year. The kids all loved it, and had a ball iceskating in Querétaro!
Glad I found your travel vlog. Very pleasant to watch
Thank you so much! This past year has been the best time of our lives. We are happy to share!
Very authentic Cambodian experience. Family dinner is fun and very frequent. Glad you enjoy. I guess we switch role. North America is completely different.
You are correct, North America IS very different. We are so lucky to share these experiences with our kids.

Good
Hello Mr. Vanny!!
Hi There. Nice video! Do you mind sharing how you found your host brother? What service did you use? Thanks!
Zach's host family was arranged from the University of Cincinnati back when we were in college. We aren't familiar with any services that arrange this type of thing, but they are out there. Studying abroad is one of the best things Zach has ever done. We highly recommend it! Good luck to you if you are considering it!
Great Video - great family! Thought this is just working inside US. How is that working for exams (e.g. end of middle school or end of sr. high school) when you are outside of US? do you get an official diploma (for the kids) when living outside of US? keep on!
From what we know, homeschool requirements vary from state to state. Some are more strict than others about classes, records, and testing. We came from KY, which is one of the more lenient states. We set up our own private homeschool before we left, and created our own curriculum according to our world travels based on the places we would be visiting. (History, Cultural Studies, Science, etc...)It was a ton of work, but worth it! Outside resources we used included Khan Academy, Duolingo, Time for learning, and our local library. (If you have an education background like my husband, you can create a curriculum based on the state standards, and you can pull from different sites to supplement learning) As far as diplomas go, you are awarded a diploma with whichever homeschool/program you use. We will likely enroll back to public schools when we are not traveling. But, if we continue to travel, our private homeschool can issue the diploma as well. Hope this helps! There's so many different methods to homeschooling; this was just the approach that worked for us. Thanks for watching our video!!
