Every Detour Leads To Adventure!
Hi! On my channel I will provide you with Travel Tips on Solo Travel, A How To Guide on planning trips (especially for first timers), and all around travel videos. I will also be looking into other aspects of travel that revolve around travel gear, travel prep, and food reviews. Anything that will be useful as you prepare for your upcoming adventure.
In the Summer of 2024 I am planning a one month trip to Austria, Slovenia, and Croatia.
I am currently a history teacher in Ohio who has led more than 15 school trips to Europe and Asia. In the 90s I taught and lived in England and my love of travel began there. At the age of 50 I decided I wanted to go to Asia for the first time...and went alone. This past winter I did a solo trip to Spain. I love traveling with friends and on school trips, but believe there is a lot of value in planning a trip on your own.

Tamburitza 2024 in Zagreb: Tambura Across Generations
The 56th Annual CFU Junior Cultural Federation Tamburitza Festival and the 37th Annual CFU Adult Tamburitza Festival was held in Zagreb, Croatia this year. The festival took place at Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall. The theme of the festival was "Tambura across Generations". 41 Folklore and Tamburitza ensembles from across the United States and Canada traveled to Zagreb to participate in the first combined Croatian Cultural Festival.
I decided to tag along with the Jasinas for my first trip to Croatia. I got a chance to get to know many of the participants, sightsee in the city, watch a practice, and see several performances. We even got a chance to see the Croatian Prime Minister speak.

Zagreb Simplified: A Big Town Disguised As A Small City

We spent 5 days in Zagreb, the capital of Croatia. Zagreb is a big town disguised as a small city. It is not as touristy as many European cities and has a busting cafe life. It is a must see if you are travelling to this area of the world. This is a simplified version of the city. It shows some simple must dos. We Found Croatia's HIDDEN GEM Brewery 20 Minutes From Zagreb!

After meeting everyone in Zagreb, 5 of us took a tour of the Pivovara Medvedgrad Brewery 20 minutes outside of town. Why this brewery? The South Slavic Club in Dayton, Ohio (near where I live) presented one of their beers at the Dayton International Festival (World A'Fair). The beer Gricka Vjestica, ("The Witch of Grič") won in 2023 and 2024. So Peggy (who is a friend of mine and member of the ...

Graz Simplified: 24 Hours in Austria’s Second Biggest City

A Journey Thru The Heart of Europe: Austria, Slovenia, Croatia

I will be spending a month in Europe. I am traveling to Austria, Slovenia, and Croatia. More specifically Graz, Ljubljana, Zagreb, the Croatian Coast, and Vienna. Part of the trip is solo, some with friends, and includes a 10 day tour. A variety. To start the journey, I drove to Buffalo to meet up with my friend Schmidt and he drove me to the Toronto Airport. From there I flew directly to Vienn...

What the heck Dalton. Hardly any videos. Are you losing interest? I sure hope not. I notice your views are increasing. Also, just a suggestion, would you consider adding a section that says, watch from the beginning or, the beginning. I just watched a channel and had to scroll for over 5 minutes to get to the beginning video. If you look at kara and Nate, they have that section and it's awesome. As your channel grows, it will be a lifesaver for new people who want to watch from the beginning. In the meantime, get back at buddy! Hahaha The slump will pass. 💙
@@bluebutterfly7233 Ha. Nope I’m still at it. :) Currently working on the next video. My golf team made it to the Ohio State Golf Tournament so I have been busy with that for the past week. So now that’s done I will be uploading weekly again. My fall is always busy with teaching, student council, and golf. I’ll look at some examples of the ‘start from the beginning’. Sounds like a good idea.
@@DaltonsDetours yes the start from the beginning section should be on every channel. Like I said, check on Kara and Nate. That's the only channel I've seen it on. I love it!
Looks unbelievable!
Excellent video, Mike. Best yet, I think. Thank you!
Great video of a wonderful city!
That was great. You really captured the visit. The brewery also sponsors the Croatian national rugby side...as evidenced by their rugby lager.
What a fun day! And you captured all the best parts!
Hope you didn't give up on your channel? Really missing your videos.
I will be back on track this weekend. New video comes out at noon today. Finally got thru the big fundraiser (we raised $131,000! A record for us) and the busiest part of the golf season. My goal is to do 1 video a week for the next month and then maybe 2 a week after that. Thanks again for watching...sorry for the delay.
@@DaltonsDetours WOW! Your fundraiser was a true success! Good for you. Looking forward to your videos.
Did you end up using carry-on during your flights in Europe and did you have any hassles?
@@LMuzz95 Actually I checked it on the European flight mainly because my backpack was too big to be a personal item. Going to Asia and flying in the US I have used the same set up as Carry On and personal item. Air Canada and Europe are much more stringent so I just paid the fee and checked the bag.
How’d you go with laundry and did you feel you had enough with just the carry on and backpack.
@@Ukelayzz yes. In the end I did about 7 days of clothes and did laundry 3 times on the trip. On day 6, 12, and around 18. I think total coast was about $30. So worth it to me
WAOOOWWWW!!!! <3333 i love ur tours theyre so cool <3
Waiting for a vid😴😴🥱🥱 lol
@@bluebutterfly7233 My golf coaching season and student council fundraiser have converged last week and this week. Gone all weekend and next weekend. And events during the weekdays after school. So hope to start Croatia video next week for following Sunday then things will slow down and I’ll have some time.
@@DaltonsDetours looking forward to your video. Sounds like you've been busy!
🤷Sicktok branded content. Do not share in other social media 🤦♀️
Excellent video! We will be there soon and we'll follow your recommendations. Thanks.
Thanks! Hope you have a great time. Let me know how it goes.
Wow there is art everywhere!

Amazing food and beautiful architecture! I’m so glad your first day was wonderful!
The correction 🤣
@@elisabethjasina5987 had to do it! :)
You know I'm always honest about your videos Dalton. Well, this one was awesome!! I like how you laid it out and I LOVE that you elaborated on the cafe's and restaurants!! Fantastic job!! The cafe where you had the poppy seed bun was so so quaint and inviting. That hotdog looked so darn good. I'm going to have to try dressing my hotdog like that. The dinner looked absolutely delicious! The salad and dumplings looked so yummy! To me, hands down your best video!! ❤️👏👏
Thanks a lot! Food was amazing. Loved Graz. Liked Ljubljana just as much. Working on first video for that city now.
@@DaltonsDetours Looking forward to it ! You had one awesome summer vacation! ❤️
What an action packed and tasty 24 hours!!
Great content! From a videographers point of view, you used great application of different techniques for an outstanding visual view of the city! ENJOYED

Well done. Some funny lines and honesty about frustrations of travel coupled w fatigue. The real you is emerging!
Looks like a great trip.
@@srt_yeezy5050 Amazing trip. Looking forward to putting all of the videos together over the next few months
Was just going to type a comment on how you were because there were no videos. And...here you posted! Will have to watch now.
@@bluebutterfly7233 Funny. The plan is to post at least one every Friday. May try to do an extra one a week when I can. Had some mic issues early so we will see how much of the talking footage I can use. I’ll adjust as I go :)
Great start to your trip!!
@@elisabethjasina5987 Thanks
Great city
Hope there’s no zombies on the train
Da quant è che non la vedo😍🤩
Aren’t they the same one’s just the italian word?
@@LMay11037 it is the Italian word but is often denser and made a bit differently. I attached an article about it. I notice a slight difference. I live both, but since I only get gelato on trips it always stands out to me. :) www.foodandwine.com/gelato-vs-ice-cream-8609179
Interesting!
For some reason audio and video is not synced. I am working on this and will upload a new video to replace this one
you’re literally my comfort person i love you kislux !
Hope you're enjoying yourself! It will be nice to see your full videos again. Lots of food ones I hope. Hahaha
yeah, firealarm test. We have those in Germany as well.
Makes sense. I assumed it was a test of some sort since nobody reacted at all. We do those for Tornados in Ohio
Every Saturday at 12, the sirens of the firestations do this test, maybe that😁
Thanks for the info. I assumed it must be something like that
Yooo I live there!
Great city. Heading out tomorrow AM about 10:30. Probably will head in to town tomorrow for one last cafe if I can find one open early
Nice and simple, thanks
Much appreciated!
Thanks this is very good to know! Dropped a like for you!
Thank you! I appreciate the comment and the like.
@@DaltonsDetours you’re welcome!
Getting so excited! We’re going to have a blast! 🎉
Yes! Gonna be a great trip
Looks awesome
Fantastic video! You captured it well.. I lived there for five years and Anthony Bourdain is on the money - I think I could live there my entire life and Tokyo would still remain an enigma. I still feel “homesick” for Tokyo, even more than I did for my own home.
Thanks a lot! I really loved it...even more than I expected. Can't wait to get back.

I love you videos, I'm going to Japan in October and there is a lot of useful information and tips. Thanks for this series.
Thanks so much! Glad they were helpful. If you need any more info feel free to reach out at daltonmd10@gmail.com. I would also suggest watching Ninja Money RUclips channel. I followed a lot of his advice. Others I used as well: Cakes with Faces (she does a great travel book you can buy), Paolo from TOKYO, Only in Japan, and Abroad in Japan. You will have a great trip! Amazing place. I can't wait to get back there.
Woohoo summer!!!
hey mr. dalton loved your third period apush class
Great video. Thank you for the guide!
Thanks for watching!
Just getting better and better, like me.
Ha! Thanks :)
I rently tried Kimchi. It was awesome!
You know I'm a fan but, giving my take on your videos. Way way touch history. I like history but not on everything. The pictures are awesome but, the commentating becomes like a boring documentary. Sorry Dalton but, most people watch videos for the videos on the place your at and not all the history. Maybe I'm wring? Don't think so though. 🤷♀️
Thanks for watching and for the feedback. A few of the upcoming ones are a bit less history oriented. Still working on the video styles and switching around how I do content. Trying things out. Being that I have been teaching history for 32 years, old habits remain. :) But just did a few videos that are a bit different. They should be out in the next few weeks or so.
@@DaltonsDetours glad you're not offended. I'm just giving my honest feedback as a viewer. You'll find your groove with trial and error. I am enjoying the sites and sounds for sure. ❤️
No problem. Definitely going through trial and error. I need another big trip to try some new video ideas. This summer will be key. The school trip was tougher than I thought todo the things I needed since I was working with a big group. @@bluebutterfly7233
@@DaltonsDetours Your videos are really good. Now that I know you're a History teacher, it explains it. Lol I really like history but not so much when I watch videos from foreign lands. It's the sights, sounds and food that I enjoy watching. I also like when you show your hotel rooms. Your videos are definitely getting better for sure. I also like that you put the costs of rooms, food, etc I really am going to enjoy watching your channel grow! 🥰
@@DaltonsDetours I am really looking forward to your summer trip big time! It'll be a lot easier when you don't have other responsibilities like keeping an eye on a bunch of students. It will be here before you know it! I dated a man from Missouri for a few years and, your summer vacations were in different months than here in Canada. I was a Social Worker at a high school here and used to fly up there on my breaks at school. Our summer break was July and August. I believe there's was June and July.
