How To Adjust Wahl Clippers The Right Way
In this video I explain how to adjust the blade and the power of a Wahl 5 Star Senior. All you need is the clipper itself (of course) and a philips head screwdriver. I also explain how the motor works which will ultimately affect how we adjust the clipper.

Thank you for your great explanation. From this I have gleaned the following and have put it here for easy reference for everyone: Wahl Blending Clipper Lengths: Closed lever: 0 (shortest) Open lever: +0.5 (same as half guard) With #0.5 guard (i.e. 'half guard') + lever half open: Gives 0.75 cut With #0.5 guard (i.e. 'half guard') + lever full open: Gives 1.0 cut (same as 1 guard with lever closed) With #1 guard + lever half open: Gives 1.25 cut With #1 guard + lever full open: Gives 1.5 cut (same as 1.5 guard with lever closed) With #1.5 guard + lever half open: Gives 1.75 cut With #1.5 guard + lever full open: Gives 2.0 cut (same as 2 guard with lever closed) With #2 guard + lever half open: Gives 2.25 cut With #2 guard + lever full open: Gives 2.5 cut (same as 2.5 guard with lever closed) Thumbs up if you agree!
Thank you so much and so sincerely Ace. This has been one of the biggest pains in my ass as a bald guy that uses a shaver twice a week. I've never been able to adjust a new head correctly. This works perfectly and it's quiet too! Amazing. Thank you Thank you!
Is that just the corded senior or does that go for any other clipper?
I have one question, i accidently bought a clipper but with mm starting from 0.6, 1.2, 1.8, 2.4, 3.0mm, is it possible i zero gap it amd then i will be able to use 0.5 and 1.0mm?

Why go over a spot over and over when the clippers cut it the first time? Serious question.
@@SammyEddie The clipper won't cut every hair on one pass. It's just to make sure it's cut properly.
@@acebarber8891 oh ok. Thanks
Very Good IMPORTANT ✌🏿
Thanks allot it was very helpful been looking for an explanation like this for a while 😊
Well when dog groomers are talking about using a ten blade, how can I convert the Wahl blade system with the different number system on other clippers?
Best explanation on RUclips hands down thanks 🙏🏽
Best explanation of blade movement I've seen and heard. Thank you. I'm about to install and adjust new blades. Glad I found this video first.
God bless you brother just stepped my game up with this video
thank you very much At first i thought my clipper was broken but after seeing your video I found out that it's normal that the cutting blade is shifting to the left
Great demonstration. Thanks!
Do these fit on the Super taper
So never fully open ur guard, always stop at 3/4 to blend into the next guard
Great explanation! Really clear and amazing breakdown. Thank you!
Thank you for taking the time to do this it's much appreciated. good man!
0.5 fade tech 5:30 1 fade tech 7:00
start at 3:00
All this time ive been thinking A #1 guard halfway open equaled a 1.5 bit when its all the way open with the 1 guard its 1.5
fantastic Guide for guards
That was perfect
Once the guards are attached, how does changing the adjustment range on the trimmer affect the cut, if at all?
Can you use this on corded walhs magic clippers
Ahhhh!! This is great. My wife cuts our hair and wanted to buy new clippers cause ours got real grabby. This video was real helpful! Our issues was when the lever is pulled down there wasn’t enough of the cutting blade exposed.
Great tutorial bro the best explanation here on RUclips thanks
Cleaned that man up!!!
Thanks it's just what I was looking for
best explanation so far
Hi Ace Barber, if you were a professor, you will make your students understand the lecture.
Wow, thank you so much for explaining this. I had no idea how to use the guards until I saw this video. You gave such a detailed step by step guidance on how to use each guard and what the lever was for. This made a huge difference for me <3
Yes best description video of the guard system that I needed to cut my sons hair thank you!
I notice that my blades shift from left to right when i turn the machine on. Is it supposed to be this way or am I doing something wrong?
Very well explained thank you… this is the best video I’ve seen explains the walhl guard system.
Excellent video Sir! My clippers (Wahl Precision Cut) makes this loud sound as shown here. And when I turn it counter clockwise the sound barely reduces. What do I do now?
Thank you!... I would open the top and see what's going on when you turn it counter clockwise... it's most likely hitting something.

Love the hot towel treatment. Propermale makes a head shave hot towel, works well.
If I have the lever closed and use a .5 guard, would that be 2mm?
About. I theory it should be 1.5mm if I'm not mistaken.
What are there lengths in centimeters and cm pls tell, i do not know inches and also this guards are Wahl guards I think can it fit in gemmy clippers, thank you sir
Sir can you pls tell also the length of guard in millimeters pls
Super top video!
Brother i like your video the way you teach and how you make your steps. I'm from Ghana and i love this work to do forever so i would like to get more tutorials from you thank you.
Too much talking.... this is supposed to be about adjustments for blades, not a tutorial about the functionality of clippers..🤔
Nice, why do people call a zero (no guard) a 0.5?? I get confused at this as I think they mean a 0.5 guard...
Not sure but I guess this is because using clippers without a guard never cuts your hair down to 0 and leaves always stubble. 0 could be a razor shave.
Sorry I get the concept… but I’m still a bit confused. I’m someone who’s learning how to fade to cut my own hair and my sons. So to clarify, this video explains blending down between a 2 guard CLOSED > 1 guard OPEN… you’ll need a 1-1/2 guard HALF OPEN… to take out the line… Majority of the fade tutorials, the authors all use 1 + 2 guards OPEN, rarely do they close… 🤔 So what’s the best way to blend between a 1 Guard OPEN > 2 guard OPEN????
@ace barber could you kindly advise?
Do these fit fast feeds?
Great video! Well done. Clean and easy to understand. Thank you.
Clear as mud 🙃
