Implementing loving boundaries with my 11 year old
If kids stood still and were always just one age, parenting would be a much easier job. But just when you've figured out what works for your ten year old, she quickly becomes eleven and matures out of the strategies that used to work when parenting her.
Just as our children change and grow, so much our strategies for effective parenting.

The Difference Between Judging and Discerning

The Difference Between Judging and Discerning
“Punitive” really depends on the energy, the intention and the consciousness behind the action as much as the action itself … an agreed upon result for an agreed upon set of circumstances is not necessarily punitive … cause and effect is not necessarily punitive, although the punitive intent is so rampant and pervasive that I can see why these would seem to be inseparable 😢
@YvetteErasmusPsyD this video really struck a chord with me, because it verbalized what I did with my older kids. I was reacting to my (now ex) husband's approach and went to the extreme opposite to compensate. I have a lot of regret about it and want to find a better balance with my younger kids.
Taking the phone for a day seems punitive, though.
Feel free to tweak it for your own situation!
@YvetteErasmusPsyD thank you for responding. It just seems like taking the phone completely, maybe just giving it to the child for communication purposes when they're out for example, would be protective. Taking it for a short period of time is what I perceive as punitive. I hope I'm not coming across as obnoxious here.
@@elizabethscrimgeour6608 Makes total sense to me - and you're not coming across as obnoxious to me at all, LOL - no worries. I like the nuances you're adding, and fully support finding the best fit solution that helps bring the intention and impact loop into more alignment whenever possible ... meaning, what strategies am I trying out with the intent of being protective, not punitive, and also, are those strategies being received as protective, instead of punitive. Which, of course is different than people "liking" the strategies ... I like the questions you're asking and the suggestions you're making :-) Bring it on! It sounds to me like your kids are lucky to have you :-)
@YvetteErasmusPsyD thank you for the encouragement and affirmative words. Your videos have all been so helpful and uplifting for me. I wish I had access to them years ago, but am thankful that we're both here now 😊
Meh. Only stupid poor people with low breeding and no education sound Patronizing... If they applied themselves and tried harder to succeed in life, they wouldn't be on the bottom of society... After all, it's not really their fault they are so inferior, you can't expect much of these people. The best they can hope for in life is to mind their place and obey their betters. 😋
" DO You Sound Patronizing? YOU ? Patronizing !? N e v e r !" 😋
Thank you 🦋
I can imagine this if the doughter says this “sorry I forgot” part. But if she just says “she is acting normal” then what? By the way Thank you for the video :)
The key is to speak neutrally and formulate an "if...then" response. So glad you liked the video!
@@YvetteErasmusPsyD Thank you for your answer :)
Do intentions matter when we remove race from the equation?
I think intention matters in every conversation ... what about you?
@@YvetteErasmusPsyD Yes, and I struggle with other people's intentions because I experience paranoia and don't know what to think. Separate from work/race; there seems to be a lot of hostile people in my country who shield themselves from being criticised, in my opinion, unfairly, when their intention as a mammal isn't clear. Then they laugh at us. Hope you're well 😊
I feel so overwhelmed with the amount of selfwork that needs to be done
I get it. Sometimes I do, too. I try to take it one day and one situation at a time. 💗
@@YvetteErasmusPsyD Thank you for letting me know the path that works for you, hope it can work for me too
So… like, putting your thoughts in quarantine to be dealt with in a more conducive environment Vs Internalizing and forgetting Or Reacting immediately to fear and guilt.
LOL - I like that way of putting it
I appreciate you. You get it.
Any NVC channel by oppressed minotiry members, especially suffering violence from police and other government officers?
I am not aware of any, but I would love to support or promote any that you might suggest
The problem is during those situations where time isn't an available luxury. It's in those types of interactions where NVC is useless.
When we don't have the time to become aware or skillful, it's true, we default to whatever survival tactics will work. In those cases, for me at least, maintaining an attitude and position of internal nonviolence becomes my practice.
I would say that you are racist too.
So angelic you are in your presentation of the things . Great way to go. Hats off.
Thank you so much 😀
I love you 💕

😊
I think she is talking about good will. You can't put a price on it
I think much of the world’s problems we have today stems from a lack of love. People fear love when they were not taught to love. So they judge others for being different. It helps to imagine a person’s social environment growing up-areas of disjointed communication, repression, suppression, ego identity (false self). People develop a lot of defense mechanisms in order to feed into that false sense of self so they slowly live in incongruence within their own selves-they become more egotistical and hateful as they reject their true selves, which stems from a lack of love.. and more clinging to the material things that never bring them joy but even more sadness. A relentless cycle of ignorance. It’s best to steer clear of people like that- they are always vested in harming you. Specifically.
Thank you. For addressing this subject I would love to work with my own anxieties using NVC. I haven’t seen this given much attention in the literature / teachings . I hope this leads to more conversations as I imagine anxiety is a widespread phenomena underpinning a lot of reactive choices and judgments.
I've heard many people are put off by my profession saying Interior designers can come across patronizing, stuffy or rude. My painter politely told I can come across as a bit opinionated and condensing. I dont mean to be & don't want to be off putting and lose clients. Thank you for the insightful video !
I love this so much
What I notice What I feel What I need What I want What's happening? What's getting on the way for you doing it?
Spot on video and tips. I only have to add to it, when and if the friend does not also want to feel this connection with you, maybe it is better to put an end to the friendship. I feel like this with my best friend, maybe he is not such a best friend afterall. Only by texts he says how much I mean to him and how happy he is to see me again....But it feels that for the majority of the time he is with me, he can't stop focussing on his mobile phone. It feels like a hurtful thing to me, as if I am this boring that he needs the attention of the online people instead of the real life people. Sorry for my grammar as I'm Dutch. I am just also trying to figure out, what to do with this. I often said things about it, but he mostly reacts like I am absurd. Like I am seeing things wrong. In a way, I wonder if I'm being gaslighted.
You're a hero , thank you Dr. ❤🙌🫶
Corrective emotional experience...how.
Great question ... therapy is a good start ... maybe I'll make a video on this!
Thank you Yvette! Your content is very insightful. Shifting our responsibility to where we have power.. within!
Non Violent Communication -NVC Marshall B Rosenberg, fantastic book!
grace and compassion.... ...that has led me to such deep pain
Yvette, I truly appreciate your clarity, fluency, and adaptability as you shift from one "script" to another with authenticity and spontaneity. Thanks for modeling this skill in a way that is so attractive and inspiring.
Can I have an earpiece through which Yvette can tell me exactly what to say in every difficult interaction? 😅 So grateful to have found your work. ❤
Such a powerful insight! 🤯
What if my mother's language is very jackal..?
That's tough. I'd be relying on a lot of translation work (listening for feelings and needs) if I felt like doing the labor ... and limiting my exposure to it otherwise!
Thank you for sharing!
I am subject to this by my older sister, we are both in our 50s and the only luke warm positive emotion I can bring myself feeling for is.... indifference. And that already takes all my strength. Imagine what I would feel if i let all this patronizing get to me! Naturally, I felt it from time to time. I think she might be reason I've become more or less of a stoic..
Tell Allison also…matter of time she gets called out from me wherever she may roam…how’s that for non violent communications??…and you also!…not to many people with your stupid name around town!…I felt someone should leave at least one message for your vibrant page!!…your not aging well from the looks of it!…to much stress,…not enough sex
What is your intention when you open your mouth??…mens pee pee??…not likely miss perfect!…look at your face!!…incredible aging…but just the expression!!….holy cow!!
Okay miss know it all so you think!…you got so worked up your whole camara shook!!…settle down miss non violent comunication weirdo…if I see you again on that chat like last night…I might have to destroy your channel…like Daisy moos
Why do you have such a fake cover page??…your not blonde anymore or brunette!…not aging well!…oh and non violent comunication crap has worked well for Daisy hasn’t it??🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤪🤪🤪🤪
Your looking so old and horrible…are you a blonde…brunette??….now grey?…Daisy calling!…sh3 and Allison need great help!!🤣🤣🤣
I can’t even stand your crazy voice!!…
Oh it’s Yevette hour folks as Daisy would say!…your crap worked so well for her…she has had two more failures in life with men…will be homeless soon!…way to go weirdo!!🤪🤪🤪🤣🤣🤣🥂🥂🥂🥂
Daisy made you famous idiot!!…she needs you now more then ever…and Allison
You need to go away now…I’m mean it!…your no help to anyone..,asking Daisy the Venice so called healer to take your videos down…why cause your a fake!…saw you tonight!…your a complete joke!!…
I’m so shy and really afraid of rejection since I’m not so confident about myself… I’m just scared they gonna laugh at me for asking.. also I don’t want to seem like a creep 😞
the worst she or he can say to you is: "i thought youre gay/lesbian", so go for it
Any update on this? very curious where this led emotionally
It shifts and changes but I'm still working with it...
Splendid 🏹🏹
Do you use the same method for when they are crossing boundaries ?
If I am protecting myself and setting a boundary, I'll use clear language about what I am and am not available for, acknowledging that I may not always WANT to connect with people or get to the heart of something with people.
