What is Ki? Aikido: Going Deep
Gerald Lopez explains what Ki could possibly mean in the context of Aikido, and why we need to at least try to understand the founder’s worldview, not only to improve our aikido, but also to fulfil his vision and mission.
Gerald discusses ancient worldviews as well as the latest quantum physics explanations of the universe, and how they could possibly complement each other. He also talks about Ki as life force which provides a blueprint for growth, and also provides energy for acting in the world.

Gerald Lopez demonstrates ki exercises you can do as part of your solo aikido practice (e.g. during lockdown due to CoVid-19). Do them in a relaxed way, and imagine extending ki in the direction of the movements. Do 4-5 or more repetitions of each exercise. These exercise help to improve your aikido practice and are ideal to do daily. For more information: mindbodyaikido.com

Thank you sensei. I just started learning Bokken in Aikido class after many years learning without weapons practice.
Thank you sensei ❤

Thank-you so much ... Stay Stong Stay blessed
ありがとうございます。* bows *
The hands should exert a feeling like wringing out a wet cloth on the handle as the cut reaches the end. Great video.
Relaxing, straightforward, positive explanation. Brilliantly delivered. Thank you. 🙏
I am finally getting my first practice bokken. This video is really helpful for a beginner without anyone around for guidance.
Super ! Thank you !
Thank you very much for this helpful and deeply insightful explanation of Ki. I recently returned to the practice of Aikido after an absence of several years. Your teaching on Ki has given me a new enthusiasm for the practice of Aikido.
Thank you for your kind words, Stephen, please keep practising, things will start falling into place for you.
tell us about Tama-no-hireburi, thank you))
Hello Gerald Lopez, thanks for the teaching. I practice shotokai and start training with bokken. I'll have to buy a bokken. I ask if you have any store or brand references that you can share. I'm in Portugal and I've been looking for bokken made with Japanese oak on Amazon. I would also like to know your opinion about buying the bokken with a handguard. Thanks
A very instructive and insightful presentation 🙏🏽
Gracias sensei Gerald
Why did you stop making videos?
Agradezco al maestro Gerald López su manera clara y simple de explicar el arte del boken.
Let the blade slip into place like destiny. Thank you for this reminder of proper form.
Alhamdulillat, terima kasih guru
Terima Kasih kawan. Harap bersuka hati
He lost me at "an adversary will attack when you're breathing in..." Sensei has never done Kendo or any other martial combat with a sword. This teaching you how to punch a bag (which is GREAT by the way!) But the timing to hit someone else isn't understood yet. Drills are GREAT in any martial combat, but don't say nonsense like attack when someone is inhaling, now you just sound ridiculous. Just my two cents Carry on
Also in the start, when he says that you shall not ever touch the blade. He says it like if you would get hurt from doing it
☯️QI 🚫 taught: Known!
My karate teacher told me about The wooden sword a long long time ago I really wish I could have stayed in his karate class so I can learn and house or how to use and also perfectly these type of martial arts techniques is actually really is correct incredible when you're using something like this to do eating combat it's how you use the couch with the way of life in martial arts 🥋☯️🙏😌🙏☯️🥋
Thank you Gerald. I have always been fascinated by Aikido. It is a martial art that harbors compassion for your adversary in it's heart. My family and I just came back from Japan, where I had a unique privilege to acquire a real oak wood Bokken from a lovely lady who is running this second hand traditional attire shop in Asakusa, Tokyo. In the far corner of the shop there was this amazing piece that I just couldn't resist buying as I have a great appreciation for the Japanese culture and art forms. Now I'm really interested to learn how to use it properly and in a non harmful way. I have subscribed to your channel now and perhaps will join a local Dojo if I can find one. Thanks so much for your instruction. Kind regards.
Thank you for videos like this becouse i just start training aikido in home before i start going to Dojo this is so helpful
Thank you very much Sensei, I ordered a bokken, could only found a plastic one, I will start to practice soon, I enjoy your video's.
You look just like the actor who play Jean Luc Picard
these are also the secrets to practicing classical piano
Thank you sensei
The main issue is there is no universally agreed definition of what Ki even is! So without that how can it even be put through scientific, peer reviewed testing? its a ludicrous situation that simply gives many inadequate Aikidoka a "fall back position" to justify their lack of understanding of basic biomechanics and core concepts like kuzushi, rasen, maki, otoshi etc.
you remind me of captain piqard from Star Trek...you need a shave...may the force be with you
Excellent...!!!in ninjutsu Takamatsu sensei would say ,when you hit the hand "falls like an axe"!same principle whether armed or unarmed!!!
Thank you🙏
Thank you sensei
Thank you so much. This exercise helps me so much.
Thank you sir
"Extend qi" LOL, pure bullshido. There is proper, simple technique for what he is getting at, but he clearly doesn't know it.
When you rub the handle like that does it get longer?
Thank you Sensei
What's the pants your wearing called?
AKAMA
Hakama
Thank you for such a great video and explanation 🙏

Nicely done. Thanks for taking the time, and patience, to do this.
Is Ki other word for Tao?
Looks like Koichi Tohei ki training. TY. Good training.
