Thanks for informative review. I paddle and dinghy sail off shore in areas of the Irish Sea. The area is relatively clear of AIS targets and I would be wanting it to warm of approaching high speed traffic such as ferries. Question, if a target becomes visible on the AIS can you easily make a DSC selective call to it to warn of your presence? Does the radio interpret an approaching vessels course to warn of collision or is it simply that it is within an alarm range. Thanks.
Many thanks. The AIS functionality is very good given the package size, i.e portable and you can make DSC calls to AIS targets. You can set the alarms for both CPA and TCPA. It’s expensive, but I would not swap it for a handheld without it having used it for a while now.

Also an owner of this device. I have to switch off the audible alarm too to be able to enter a marina undisturbed. This is a feature(?) of all ICom DSC radios. The AIS and DSC features would be a real bonus in case you have to abandon ship and get in to a life raft.

How is the jacket now?
Thanks for asking. Been out in the wet, the freezing and the just plain nasty and not disappointed. Do have a fleece under for those really cold days on the water and they work perfectly together.

@2:34 "it should not be possible to lose both at the same time" . Interesting video after this morning's news that MV Maud lost all electrical power after a big wave (storm Pia) crashed through (one of) the windows on her bridge, disabling all navigation and radar equipment. She is currently being assisted/towed to a Danish harbour.
All these electronics were wiped out by the seawater flooding of the bridge

@@goneboating big wave smashed into the bridge. On this vessel, the bridge is relatively low placed as the observation deck for the tourists is above it. When the electronics were down, they used the emergency steering room inthe engine room

Its a model qsl-9 , rated 335 horse power , not a qsl rated at 9,335 horse power , just sayin
