It is not really about them, but their producer in the movie who is played by Harvey Keitel, and his partner who is played by Charles Stepney who was their real-life producer. Blessed with seeing the original group 4 times in their prime!
Not only did I see them multiple times, but I lived across the street from Verdine with saxophonist Benny Golson, and was able to attend several studio sessions in LA in the mid eighties. I also attended sold out concerts and was always backstage. Greatest R & B band in history!

I've seen that movie 4 times since. 2019. it wasn't all that bad. I give it 2 out of 4 stars. my favorite scenes were in the studio. those production scenes. the movie is an eye opener to the dark side of the music business.
