Honestly I prefer Cynthia’s interpretation way more, the build up to each section of the song was cleaner, crisper, and the periods of emotion were longer and more in depth. I love Idina, but Wicked 2024 all the way ❤

Some parts were a bit off. But respect to her, that is a freaking hard song to sing. Overall fantastic performance!

These vocals during the Tony performance would have shut a lot of people up. The difference is huge. Most of the negative criticism, “pitchy”, “breathy,” etc, stemmed from the Tony’s. And the record shows, she was indeed under the weather that month and her vacation followed. Still waiting for this clip to be found in HQ.

Don't nitpick. When you are dealing with musical theater, you CANNOT separate the voice from the performance. The acting that happens both with the notes, and in the silences between notes, is a collective agent, a totality of art. It does not happen in a vacumn, but within the structure of a character and the confines of a plot. The magic can happen with impossibly narrow singing ranges, raspy vowel sounds Sometimes the musical theater star can't even hold a note, but the magic still happens. So don't nitpick. Its stupid and ignorant.

Here I am in 2024 sent here by the new Wicked movie trailer! Defying Gravity is one of my all time favorite Act One finales! Make us all proud Cynthia. While we are at it, I don’t blame Idina for how vocally demanding singing these lyrics are. But she can still slay a tune!

I got to hear her sing Defying Gravity while she was doing a filmed live performance of Let It Go at Disneyland when I was working there. I worked the filming and absolutely despise Let It Go now because of how much I had to listen to it very loudly that shift but hearing her sing Defying Gravity live was incredible. She sounded amazing and she was just warming up and killing time on stage
