Seymour Duncan Antiquity Jazzmaster Neck Pickup Demo and Review
Просмотров 20121 день назад
I didn't say it in the video, but I think the stock pickup is voiced a bit more like a P90 (with lower output) than a truly traditional Jazzmaster pickup. The Seymour Duncan sounds more like a true Jazzmaster pickup, as one would expect. I paid full retail price for this pickup. You can check it out here on the @seymourduncan official website: www.seymourduncan.com/single-product/antiquity-jazz...

This is a truly fantastic guitar. This is my first Firebird and I've long thought they might end up being my favorite Gibson-style model. It looks like I was probably right. Between the time I finished filming this video and uploading it @theguitaristas posted a great video about this guitar's more expensive sister, the Epiphone '63 Firebird I mention in this video: ruclips.net/video/BijGa_dXxA...

Have you ever been told you resemble Kevin Spacey?
forgot how terrible this amps are. sounds like cardboard.
Good job
Nice
Great to see another almost 40 year old fan of a Avril. I too have been a fan since like she hit the scene with the song "Complicated", and always have been a fan of her music. A the time I was in my high school and listening almost exclusively to metal and rock. When she emerged at the scene, I knew she was there to stay, because of all the female fans she attached to with her music and her looks. Back then it was referred to as a "Avril lookalike". But never the less , I was all in into her music, which was something refreshing from 2002 till 2005.
@@DarkVelizar It is good to see another fan of hers from the beginning. It has been very gratifying seeing her continued success over the years. I’m hopeful to see her on tour this summer.
I have coveted my uncle's gibson firebird since I was a kid and I own a Sterling St Vincent and have been wondering this myself for years. Your video makes me really appreciate the St Vincent since I do love the size and trem
My ears hurt.
@@dudleydeee you should probably go a doctor to get that checked.
I'm through with Musicians freind
I love my Asat Special, it feels, looks and plays so good I can't put it down, though I would like a mod to get the jumbo mfd's not quite so trebly.
How can I get it and how much does it cost
Have you thought about joining or making your own band?
Whats sn evergreen song?
@@PunchtheLion one that has a theme which remains relevant throughout the years.
It’s amazing how many places online the flying WV pops up. Nice guitar and great playing. Let’s Go!
@@shinzman87 thank you very much.
They all sounded great !I used to have an SAS core before the SE was a thing if I remember right I had a fatter neck than the new ones. I think the new ones sound similar. Great video keep them coming 👍
Thanks for the video. I get my one today. Very excited. Going to be a wonderful Christmas.
Luv this amp!
I really wanted to like this guitar. It's so cool! The pick up configuration just looks mean. But after listening to it, sorry it just doesn't do it. It's five positions of weakness. There's no balls. There's no bite. And there's no way I'm spending the money on this guitar. For those of you who like it, hey that's what this world's about. There's something for everybody. Believe me, I own a lot of fenders, and a lot of Squiers, but there's no way I'm spending the money on this. For me, it has no redeeming quality. It's just odd. An odd doesn't make it worth the money.
@@lawrencegenereux8567 I do think the pickups are the weak link in this guitar. With hotter pickups this would be a better guitar. It is strange that the “Contemporary” Strat they used such vintage output pickups.
I can't decide between the 12 and the 22, what do you guys think?
for taylors isn't the only difference between 12 and 22 the top wood? just pick which one looks better to you
I regret not getting that one.
best reveiw ive seen on here ,very refreshing, no showing off Steve Manchester UK
@@stephenchadwick5852 thank you very much.
keith richards had one in the mid 60's. think it got stolen.
The original late 50s Aristocrats were not chambered. The were just smaller sized, mahogany hollowbodies with a spruce top w/no f-holes.
That's what they still are. The mahogany back is routed out hollow, then they put a carved spruce top over it.
Great review and great pickin'! Thanks for sharing
@@EvanSearcy thank you very much
The originals never had a stop tailpiece.
Was it just a wrap around bridge?
I just got one also cut that tone down to 2 to 3 in both pickups will sound way better way to bright on anything over God bless great video cut that tone down brother I'm going to put a 57 or p90 in my bridge I think bridge pickup sounds absolutely horrible the neck isn't bad middle isn't bad Allen Collins had p90 in his bridge 👍God bless
Waiting for some Johnny Winter licks 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
@@NicholasANappiNick I was actually wishing I could remember some while I was making the video, but it’s been awhile and I didn’t dare try it unrehearsed.
I have this Firebird and have to say it’s a keeper. I’ve owned and still own Gibson guitars for over 40 years and this feels and plays as good. The pickups are shockingly good! I hope you have great luck with your Firebird!
@@jaygetner731 thank you very much. That is good to hear. I love it more and more as I continue to play it.
I bought one last year from Sweetwater. They were running a sale, $649 with a free Plek job thrown in. Best fret job I've ever seen. They even string it up with strings of your preference. But you got a hell of a good deal there. Firebirds have their own sound, and the Epi version captured it pretty well. One thing though, I put Dunlop #2 fingerboard oil on it, wiped off the excess, and overnight the indian laurel looked fantastic. It's good for the wood too, keep it from shrinking and cracking. Good review, thanks!
I'm definitely going to put that very oil on it when I restring it. I actually remember when Sweetwater had that deal with the Plek job and almost got one then (I think I waited too long to get it then). I'm really happy with mine and can't imagine paying what it would take to get a Gibson (or the more expensive Epiphone) compared to this one.
One thing I would suggest, go ahead and put whatever strings that you like on the guitar. Usually the strings on imports are garbage.
Mine does have the CTS pots, so I can confirm that. I have not as yet confirmed that the pickups are true Firebird pickups. If they are they would be rail pickups, which would mean I'd have to take the covers off. Sooner or later I will take a look
I previously had a 2017 Gibson Firebird Studio T but it never felt right or scratched that itch so to speak. The Epi does, mainly because it is a true neck thru. Much like you I found there was no Gibson production model available and going after them on the used market is quite expensive. The only new ones you can currently get from Gibson are custom shop models
@@WalkenDead I had a very similar experience. I wanted a “real” neck-thru Firebird and even though it was a somewhat reasonable $1,999 when Gibson last offered it as a production model a few years ago they are often hundreds more than that used since they are relatively scarce. I’m very pleased with this one and like even better now that I’ve set it up properly (I was right, the bridge was just set way too high and other than lowering the bridge pickup as well it was fine).
Yeah Musicians friend boxing sucks. I have a 2023 of the same guitar, came packed the same way. Guitar is great, shipping methods suck
Great review,thank you.
Wish i had one even more now
@@UNIRockLIVE this is my first Firebird and it is quickly becoming one of my favorite guitars.
Pshh.. you got that Unirock credit lol ..go for the new '63 reissue!
I love the firebird
I recently (2024), picked up a minty 2015 model in sunburst which also has a mahogany body. I'm pretty sure mine has a rosewood fretboard but I'm open to be corrected. Wonderful guitar-and the pickups are so toneful compared with my Fender Vintera Nocaster (MIM). I paid £399 UK, including a decent hard case. Like you I had wanted one for years.
Got one from Sweetwater a few months ago. Great guitar!
Cool!
Nice man love it
Sweet! Thanks For Sharing 🧠🎸🎶🎶✌️
A few months ago I purchased the Guild Polara Kim Thayil and I can't put it down. An amazing guitar.

Been watching your gtr vids, good stuff how many guitars do you have at one time. Thanks Kevin
@@PunchtheLion thank you very much. It usually about 15-20 at any given time. A lot unfortunately come and go to keep new things cycling through for the channel.
Hi, so are these available ? Are these on the Epi website? ( I will check) I never liked the big longer pick guard on the IBG. Gig bag is a nice bonus. Cheers!
@@robcotter3072 it is my understanding that they are only available in “brick and mortar” stores which are not a major retailer like Sweetwater. Every one of these I have seen online has been at a local music store of some type. And I agree, I much prefer the smaller pickguard on this one.
@ thanks, sounds like one may need a little luck to see one/purchase one. Epiphone usually sends an email when a new product is released so that’s why I’m surprised about this version of the J-45. I’m in Canada and Long and Mcquade is the national retailer. Thanks again. Rock on!
Man. How many guitars do uou have? Nice
@@PunchtheLion probably about 15-20 at any given time, though a lot come and go so I can get new things on the channel.
Nice guitar but how close is the train to your house? Sounds like it's 10 feet away..keep working on those single note leads.
Beautiful guitar! I’ve been tempted to get one for a while myself. 😊
Lovely guitar in both looks and sound. Through the years Guild has been sadly been eclipsed by other brands in their marketing. But they're still master guitar builders and their creations always rock.
Your intonation is way out.
