Finding a Pattern on the Mississippi River
The Mississippi River is just one of those places you have to go to for smallmouth fishing to have really "done it all." This river changes so much throughout the state of Minnesota that you feel like you have to do it all to fully appreciate it. Come along, as I break down this section of what I call a "smallmouth playground."

    That backup sound and whirring is the speaker you can remove. Just a few screws and it also frees up space for the intercooler by taking that box off for the turbo. It's on the driver side on the front end. Black box, you'll see it.

    2024 SX PHEV here. My current gas tank is just over half full with approximately 1200km on the counter. 1.2L/100km economy. Obviously my daily driving is almost entirely covered by the battery charge. I just traded in my 2021 SX Sportage and the gas savings is utterly ridiculous. Truly truly a great experience. I like it too but it was too annoying to constantly change batteries. I would always lose footage because the camera would die at the worst possible time. It was also uncomfortable to wear. @RivermanTV- I recently got the DJI Osmo Action 4 and it lasts for 2 hrs 20 mins at 1080p/30fs. Plus it's got integrated Bluetooth mic capabilities so you can retain waterproofness (is that a word?) and get good audio

      @@EngineeringHooksets Yeah I love my 4 but that's my main rear. I'd have to take it down and switch it to the hat cam which is doable. I run 2.7k at 60 so I'm sure it would be a little shorter. • @RivermanTV-
      @RivermanTV- 8 дней назад

      In small rivers it's all about finding the holes that will hold fish in the winter. Those are refuge zones when the water gets low. They aren't in them to winter just yet (they'll move if water allows) but they definitely want to be close to them without getting cut off. In some of the small rivers by me, it seems that a large chunk of the population moves out of the river entirely down to the next bigger river. I think they do this before fall low water periods so they don't get stuck in a pool and die there because it's not the right habitat for low water or winter.

    Hello Riverman what a great video and beautiful area with some great smallies. I love the way you break down the river and what to look for. Very helpful. I have fished the Wisconsin river a few times up in the Merrill area. It's also a nice area with a few muskies thrown in. I do know parts of the area where you were fishing although not well enough to do on my own. That big rapid kind of scared me off. Just wondering how you managed to get around it safely in a kayak? Is there another easier option to get around the rapid or did you have to portage? I would probably be floating in a small raft if I decided to do it. I would love to float that section someday.

    • @RivermanTV-
      @RivermanTV- 9 дней назад

      Hey there - glad you got something out of this video! As for the rapids, you can avoid them by keeping right at the big island. The water is still swift but it is very manageable. There are some other quicker runs further downstream but none of it is very daunting. I've also done some of the river downstream of Merrill. Saw some giant musky and broke one off down there. Cool area I've been meaning to get back to.

      It's a beautiful area. I've been meaning to hit some of the river a bit closer to Minneapolis for sure, but you know I have to do it in the kayak 😉

    wrong about regen. it's better than physical brakes but not better than judging it so no braking is required at all. free wheeling is the most efficient. but given we can't always do that regen braking is a good second choice. not optimum though as it does not recoup all the energy put in to gain the momentum.

    It's nice to finally see someone cast with their right and reel from their left on a baitcaster. I know that's random, but doesn't it just look awkward how most people are always switching hands after each cast? Seems very inefficient and clumsy, but hey.....to each their own I guess. Enjoyed the show! Always wanted to run those waters back when I was skinny. A bit too top heavy for those kayaks nowadays. Be well sir!

      I half jokingly call my way the "correct way" because I can't imagine not using my dominant hand for working the rod. Imparting action and muscling fish are the most important parts of fishing so why would I want to do that with my weak hand? And don't even get me started on switching hands haha. Thanks for coming along!
