For the special ones you need to meet certain conditions such as having obtained Reverse Curse Technique, Six Eyes or doing a specific mix of abilities.

The early access version is made to work on the latest version of Minecraft, so it might be because of that. I'm not quite sure of the free version's compatibility though.
