The close approach of the star Gliese 710
In roughly 1.3 million years’ time the star Gliese 710 will pass within 0.166 light years of the Solar System. This is 25 times closer than the current nearest star Proxima Centauri. No other star has been predicted to pass as close to this future and, as far as we know, no star has been as close in the past.
The impact on the Solar System could be significant with around 30 million new comets. This video tells the story.

Sirius - the brightest star
Просмотров 5653 месяца назад
Sirius (also known as the Dog Star) is the brightest star in the sky. This video explains why Sirius is so bright. The brightness of Sirius made it a very notable object to ancient peoples and its predictable appearance each year in the early morning sky during the hot days of summer gave rise to the phrase Dog Days. Sirius was discovered 1862 to have a faint companion star which we now know as...
Introduction to the Anthropic Principle
Просмотров 3264 месяца назад
The anthropic principle is the idea that the laws of nature and fundamental constants such as the relative strengths of the fundamental forces which govern the Universe, parameters such as the amount of matter in the Universe and the even the age of the Universe have in some way been finally tuned to make the existence of galaxies, stars, planets and intelligent beings (such as ourselves!) poss...

The December Solstice - Lazy Journalism

Transit of Venus
Просмотров 1,9 тыс.Год назад
The transit of Venus occurs when Venus passes directly in front of the Sun taking a number of hours to slowly cross its disk. It is rare event, the last one occurred in 2012 and the next one won't happen until 2117. The transit of Venus has been of great importance to the development of astronomy as science. Observation of the 1639 transit by the British Astronomers Horrocks and Crabtree allowe...

He states "the big bang theory has been refined over time to match observations" Interesting , perhaps if other theories had received as much time and energy , they also may have equal if not better explanatory power. In the end it's all math and figures can be constructed at any given time to explain anything , or in other words , figures don't lie but liars can figure.

Perfectly shown in Brú na Boinne in Ireland. Newgrange, Knowth & Dowth being laid on as Deneb, Vega & Delta. The closest stars to the north star that switch with the axis. The swirls at the entrance to Newgrange being the sky rotating around the North star. 3 of them for the 3 sol stars, the 3 Goddess' of Ireland. Ériu, Banba & Fódhla. Loughcrew cairns is laid out in the shape of Pleiades & carrowmore to Loughcrew is Orion chasing Pleiades which is Loughcrew mixed with bru na Boinne. Newgrange points at Fourknocks which points at Deneb. Fourknocks is built on the intersections of 4 lay lines and right on top of a spring of water that splits 2 different directions. They used the electro magnetic fields to create free power.

The Mass-Radial Acceleration Discrepancy by measuring the speeds of galaxies in the Coma Cluster originated with Fritz Zwicky, not Vera Rubin, whom I consider a celebrated plagiarist, as using the more challenging methodology of the virial theorem, by relating the total average kinetic energy and the total average potential energy of the galaxies of the Coma Cluster. My father advanced that the virial for a pair of orbiting mass is zero and used the principle of superposition to craft the argument to a system of interacting mass points. Fritz Zwicky then used the position and velocity of measurements to determine the mass of the galaxy cluster. Vera Rubin advanced self promotion for decades after my father's passing by assigning herself forced credit for Dark Matter, while feigning humility as a woman in the sciences not seeking any special recognition. Rubin remains an unwanted barnacle who attached herself to my father's discovery and work without conscience and by deliberate design to assign credit for myself. Rubin, by her own admission, read my father's work regarding the speeds of galaxies, realized the importance, copied the methodology and advanced a campaign with obnoxious trumpeters to assign that forced credit to herself. This is the legacy of Vera Rubin, who left an indelible mark as plagiarist and is an embarrassment to honorable women pioneers in the sciences with proprietary body of work. It is of note that the Vera C. Rubin Observatory is a vacuous vessel in forced honor to the celebrated plagiarist Rubin by H.R. 3196. It is a building for the Simonyi Survey Telescope. I was denied the opportunity to speak to the Congressional Committee and voice my opposition to the naming but was assured that: "my letter had been read." Not one Committee member had the courtesy to respond. Reply

But this is the first I found that actually ties it to orbital dynamics in a clear and completely understandable way. I particularly like your two graphs at the end, where you sort of hit the "function and its derivative" in a nice intuitive way. You covered it very nicely - thanks.

I'm not astronomer, but im curious why longer daylight in the summer. I think longer days are not related to the speed rate of axis shift but to intersection of ecliptic forming the declination with the equator along the same longitude where these north latitude experience delay, so tilt axis causes seasons and daylights.

So it would seem that, according to the explanation, that the particle horizon is the farthest we can see a distant object. However, if we say look at the CMB we are NOT looking 4out 6 billion light years , but only 14 billion (13,77). Aren't we seeing photons from the CMB , that were much closer to us when tey were emitted,? For the life of me, I have never bumped up against clarity in this. If we see light from a galaxy that left it when the galaxy was 294 million years from us,, aren't we seeing the galaxy as it looked 294 million years ago, even though it is 306 million light years away? So we're not seeing this galaxy at 306 million light years distant, but at 294 million light years distant. Correct? So how is the observable universe 46 billion light years, when we are observing it at 13.7 billion light years?

Thank you but if you could leave alone religion. Heliocentrism was not a religion theory but one of the highest philosopher of the Reason Aristotle and a scientific guy Ptoleme. Many scholars didn t see any inconvenience with heliocentrism, expressed it and weren t burned for it. One of the most prominent was Nicolas de Cues a clerk close to the Pope in XV century. The fact is that Galile found a much better performing system but wasn t able to prove Heliocentrism.

The very ideas that the speaker in this video is referring to when he defends big bang cosmology and rejects the steady state theory are ideas that 'steady staters' can eloquently oppose; so when he says, "We now know the universe is expanding.." and when he utters similar assertions, this should be taken, not with a grain of salt, but with a pound of it.
