You can install a jackshaft operator on a reverse torsion spring system! I will also install a pulley system that allows the emergency release rope to work safely and correctly. We also used a CHI 3285 full view garage door with tempered, frosted glass. Enjoy!

Battery back up, electronic deadbolt security and wifi capable very similar to the 8500W. Can be used up to an 18' x 14' door not exceeding 850lbs.

What pulley system did you use so pulling the emergency cord will be safe? Thanks!!
Is this a jack shaft opener with a low headroom dual track?
You mount this opener as for normal operation door, just make sure to reverse polarity to to DC motor.
Do the safety sensors work correctly? On genie's jackshaft the system works backwards and the sensors will close the door when interrupted.

No one shouldn’t ever put a belt drive garage door opener on any wood door regardless if it’s a heavy wood door or a light wood door
why an 8550? its a dettached garage
Would you recommend this over the 8500 for a residential application?
A chain drive would be a option or a jackshaft or even better a screw drive
they should really come out with an update so u don’t need to do that and can select reverse mount.

My garage door isn’t reverse torsion. I do not have the required clearance on either side of my door. Is it possible to install upside down like this, using the 480LM alternate mounting kit, and have no issues?
@@scott82ish if you do that, the door will open instead of close and close instead of open. i don’t recommend it upside down. and when opening if u go through it it’ll close.
@@GDOs well, that sucks. My other idea is another bar, sprockets, and longer chain to make it work. I found another video with a set up like what I mentioned.
The 8500W seemed kind of clunky at the end when it was rolling up.
Hate to be honest but a chain drive opener is the best opener for a heavy wood door. Jack shaft openers tend to like to throw the cables. Now if anyone had any sense they’d know that belt on the second opener isn’t even tensioned right. A little tlc and they’d be fine for a while longer.
These openers are good 3575 belt drives. But you just cant put them on some doors. These should have been the 3595 chain drive. But still pretty good.
It has nothing to do with being a belt drive. Any opener you install on a door will wear out/break on a super heavy door. No matter if it's chain, belt, screw, or a jackshaft opener
We're all entitled to our own opinion but belt drive operators will wind up and release the energy on heavier doors causing components to wear out faster. The rail will even pull out of the mount in the header. It's simple physics. At the end of the day it's better to use an I-beam chain drive or jackshaft opener on heavier wood doors.

Sweet setup! Does the -WAL mean it comes with the auto lock? Never heard of the -WAL on an 8550
WAL means that it is auto lock capable, this particular 8550 did not come with the lock.
