Research allows you to pursue your interests, to learn something new, to hone your problem-solving skills and to challenge yourself in new ways. It takes a completely open mind, putting aside preference and prejudice and a simple desire to know the truth on any topic you want to research. Then be influenced in forming opinions based on the results.
Always be open to the possibility that one’s long held beliefs may be challenged and be prepared to be proven wrong. Challenge yourself to know exactly what you believe, as we start out a product of our birth and upbringing The challenge is in bringing in some other external knowledge (maybe from another traditionally separate discipline) to create a new and intelligent approach that is "outside the box" and really creative and unconventional. There still has to be some strong suggestion in present knowledge that things might possibly work with this new bold approach
