Beautiful song. Kind of timeless, folksy, pastoral pop. Like a long-discarded companion to some Skylarking demos, or a sibling to 'In Loving Memory Of A Name'. That they all have a kinship with 'Nigel' is a lovely marvel. I like the fast tempo bass run later on. There's also a Brian Wilson feel here but it's Englishness that wins out.
Oh my goodness, why didn’t I see this sooner. I simply love Colin Moulding, yes I love XTC too, have done since my Swindon days circa 1974 to 1976, but Colin writes such beautiful songs. Made me very emotional.
Bloomin' brilliant! Seems like a lot of us here have had Colin in our lives since we were teens or younger, and it's lovely to still get to hear him come out with new stuff. Now I'm gonna grab a bottle of Guinness and listen to this all over again. Cheers!
Lovely video, great song too. Mmmm I wonder whether there will ever be a follow up song/album to 'Nigel'. I wonder how his life worked out? what sort of future did he have? Was he ripped off by the scammers when he got his British Steel pay out?
Colin is not only a great bass player but also a fantastic songwriter with a unique voice. One only has to listen to "Bungalow" from the Nonsuch album to appreciate the brilliance of Mr M!
Finally I get to this. The world is a better place with your music, Colin, single by single. And as a bassist, I am once again enthralled with the lines on this. Thank you and may the spring in your garden be blooming.
As ever inspired. The song reminds me of ‘Say It’, rhythmically, and also ending on ‘now’ with the same gentle sense of urgency and modesty. To me there is a McCartney like texture to Moulding’s vocal, but the character is all his own. What a voice, lyrically and musically. To quote one of his own songs, ‘Greatness, it’s where I wanna be.’ To me that’s right where he is and he’s been there a long time!
Very Nice! I found this because I'm a fan of XTC and Brian Wilson/Beach Boys. Gives me the vibes of Friends-Sunflower era Beach Boys which is a great period for them. Loved the Dukes of Stratosphere's Pale and Precious too. I want to dig further into your work,
Was a Colin fan but after hearing Dave Gregory explains falling out with Colin because Colin believed he wasn't entitled to any income from his work on recordings up to Dave leaving the band is just plain wrong and evil. As an ex musician who's been shafted by former band mates and promoters and agents- there are some despicable people out there. Pity.
My world has missed you so much, Colin. Beautiful song, and beautifully presented…the message hits home at the age we are now. But the message is simple and wise for any age. Thank you.
One of the most accurate statements I ever heard Andy Partridge say is that his and Colin's contributions were a case of "quantity vs. quality." I love Andy's writing, but most of my favorite XTC songs are Colin's: "King for a Day," "Generals and Majors," "Big Day," "Making Plans for Nigel," "The Smartest Monkeys," "Vanishing Girl," et al.

Fantastic. Better than solo Partridge

Thank you Colin! 🙌🏾
Britain’s new Anthem!
You might leave pop but pop will never leave you, Colin
Sublime .
Lovely Tune!!!

The Red Curtain needs to go solo!
Nice one COLIN
COLIN IS THE BEST STORY TELLER, UP THERE WITH, RAY DAVIES, COLIN HAY, NICK DRAKE,,
I am a huge XTC fan, just discovering this three years after it came out, wow, fantastic.
Is that crest/emblem @ 0:38 in any way related to the Tenpole Tudor band crest on their first album cover.
I ain't going to go and work in your British Steel Dad, I'm gonna play in a Rock and Roll band....heh..heh...
It's not working for me. Nigel? wow something else, so descriptive, of its time and perhaps today.
Hooked in seconds, and not many at that ...
Great. This Song has XTC-Level. I‘d Like to hear more from Colin.

Not another song that ends with "Now!" We already heard that with "Say It". :) Seriously, though, great track.
Thank you Colin, what a beautiful song. 🥰

Mr.Moulding is a world class writer, bassist and vocalist.
It's too bad that Andy Partridge ended up not being a true mate.
This man is so damn underappeciated!!!
Lovely tune. Got a bit of a fetish for churches myself, Colin. Where's this one?
Colin, we need you make more music!! Release anything!
That is very good.
Great song. Always enjoyed his Ying to Andy’s Yang.
Can we have some please Colin ❤

I have listened to this song and enjoyed watching its video nightly for a couple of weeks...It's like discovering a lost track from Nonesuch.
Thank-You, RUclips for finally feeding me this beauty.
You are incredible, Colin
A revisit to Chittingfold House........?

"Blame The Weather" is a great song that somehow never made it onto an album.
Really liking this😁
1:29 - 1:35 🙌
We’ve missed you Colin.
just miss andy on this ! :)
I sure hope he puts something out again. I know he’s not got much interest in it, but I love his songwriting so much.
Great Colin !!!!
Always had such a great gift for melody, and this is just one more great example.
His songs have so much charm. And it's not false or fake. It's genuine charm.
