Stanley Hotel Ghost Tour - Room 217
Video I shot at the Stanley Hotel during our tour on 7/7/08. Room 217 was where Stephen King stayed when he at least conceived the "The Shining", as that story goes, and the room (in the book) that Danny is warned to stay away from. The guide, Dawn, tells a great story about Jim Carrey bailing out of the room -- and the hotel -- while shooting a film there. Dawn speaks to us as if we are 'in the know' because we sorta are -- my wife and I once stayed in 217, which we verbally established earlier in the tour. At about the 4:00 minute mark, you can see the totally non-threatening Dawn turn to us and ask "Who are you who stayed there? There!" and points at me; I totally jittered the camera. ...

We stayed here recently. First we were in room 219 but it gave me an odd feeling so we asked to move. We ended up in room 328. We ended up getting a private tour (the tour was booked but tipping 20-40 bucks, 20 per person IMO goes a long way). We were taking a tour of the tunnels and it was just myself, fiancé & the tour guide. I was recording with my iPad and my fiancé was taking pics with his cell. We hear all of a sudden the beeping of a FaceTime call coming in on his cell. He looks down and it says my name "Jamie Cell" and he said quit calling me I'm trying to take these pics! I look at him, I feel a little sick, my cell was in our room, 328. I had only brought my iPad! We promptly left after this and headed up to our room. I go to my purse, pull out my cell, it's completely dead! How could I call my fiancé trying to FaceTime him, when I don't have my cell, and it's dead?! That was the strangest thing. I also did a sage smudging in the room and on myself and my fiancé.(For those who aren't familiar)You take a sage bundle and light it like an incense and I do a cleansing prayer & just announce our presence to the spirits, that we mean no harm & a white light prayer. The tour guide also have us some lollipops and told us to sit on the couches on the 4th floor. You're supposed to place a sucker in the palm of your hand, sing to the ghost spirits (Mary had a little lamb, twinkle twinkle, etc) and the sucker can lean from side to side or be knocked from your hand. Nothing happened in this case. In fact I did the sage cleansing after we returned from the tunnels and I personally feel like that may have had an effect on the rest of our night. We did not experience a single thing after. My fiancé did report waking up around 3 am and not being able to go back to sleep due to it sounding like a party was right outside our door. He never opened the door to see if there was anyone there, he just assumed. Ghosts or no ghosts, I love the hotel & the area, it's very beautiful.

STAY_NCTZEN _ 418,401, 428 or 217 if you can get it. I stayed in 217 and 428. Nothing weird ever happens in there but 217 was def. odd
Why would they put a VIP like Jim Carrey into a room they think is very haunted? Did he request it?
Who knows? It is definitely one of the nicer rooms, especially since the renovation.
Jim Carrey had requested to stay in that room during filming for Dumb and Dumber. He was only checked in for 3 hours before he ran out of the building to the nearest Holiday Inn. He eventually told Bobby Farrelly that he had seen his dead grandfather in the mirror as he woke up to cut the tv off and that was it for him. He never returned.
Jim carrey is hilarious~ but I didn't know he's serious~ ^^;

In the Shining Documentary 'Room 237' they say that this is the reason given, but the hotel said no such thing. Some say it is connected to the conspiracy theory that Stanley Kubrick faked the apollo moon landing that he changed the room number-I just find it interesting!
In the book it's room 217. The Timberline Lodge (The building that the Overlook in the movie is based off of) has a room 217 but no room 237. The owners wanted the switch to be made to prevent guests from feeling uneasy about staying in that room.

My wife and I stayed in this room this past sept 6, 2012. I pissed the ghosts off and got 30 scratches on one leg and 10 on the other, some deep enough to scar. Woke to foot steps at 3 am to foot step in the room and heard them again at 330 am (this time my wife shot up out of bed), they sounded like they were in the room. Took one 30 sec cell ph recording with a galaxy S3 and at the end got a voice what sounds like a young female asking "who is this?" The fourth floor was much creepier,,,

Stayed there last week. Our ghost tour guide said that you feel a ghost presence or a ghost touching you if you shiver and your teeth chatter. So, I was falling asleep in a room there. BY MYSELF. There wasn't enough room in the other room. I was flipping out. Then, my body started shivering UNCONTROLLABLY. fuckin scared SHITLESS
