    (Att'n Pete : Headstock vaulted into upper-right corner, camera BELOW the neck shot, make for fingers covering strings/frets, hence wasting our time as we decipher fingerings. Please note corrections made by Jack Ruch and other Utoob instructors : straight-on medium shot of horizontal neck proves much more effective presentation of valuable information. Thanks!)

    Downstrokes were the basis of picking at those times. T-Bone was a friend of Charlie Christian's, and this latter - according to what an old Barney Kessel told me 34 (!) ys. ago plaied downstrokes only. Nice video, thanks Pete.

      Definitely warming (the temperature) of the hands before playing will help.....though water may soften the fingertips - drying them well after is a good idea!

    Nice lesson, particularly with the classic, open A string on the V cord. In my part of the world we call this tempo a "march", but lump shuffle is equally descriptive! Important to mention that those adornments you play so smoothly are all parts of the underlying chords.

    • @PeteSchmidtBluesGuitar
      @PeteSchmidtBluesGuitar 28 дней назад

      Great overview! Yes, the four on the bottom of the five chord is a classic sound; Jimmy Reed/Eddie Taylor, Slim Harpo, JB Lenoir and so many others played like this (these days it makes unknowing bass players cringe) :) Correct; the little adornments are parts of the chords.....adding some movement with call & response. This does help when playing by yourself or with just drums & bass (like Jimmy Vaughan!) Thanks again for checking the video out

    I just bought the same exact model Silverstone guitar a few days ago after I saw one of my favourite Finnish blues player Jonne Kulluvaara playing a National archtop with the same P13 pickups backing Kat Baloun last week. Before that I'd never even heard about these pickups but then I realized there was this old Silvertone archtop for sale just 30 km from where I live so I went and picked it up since the price was very reasonable and the guitar was well maintained and in great condition and had original parts. After purchase I decided to replace the original tuners with drop in open back replacement tuners from Grover with 18:1 ratio which helped a lot with the tuning and I restrung it with a set of .011- .050 DR Pure Blues pure nickel round core strings.

    • @PeteSchmidtBluesGuitar
      @PeteSchmidtBluesGuitar Месяц назад

      Hi Pete! excellent story about the Silvertone....they are quite under the radar as cheaper vintage guitars. The tuners are best replaced....and pure nickel strings are the way to go!
