(3) Alcoholics Anonymous AA Pet Peeves of Mine
This is a video about 3 AA Pet Peeves of mine. These are a few things that I have been exposed to in meetings over the years that still kinda make me say "oh boy". Nothing too serious. Rule 62 is in order here. If you have any yourself, fell free to air them out.

The AA Big Book: To Read or Not to Read
Просмотров 4974 месяца назад
This video covers the idea of getting sober in Alcoholics Anonymous without getting into the AA Big Book. The Alcoholics Anonymous Big Book is considered "required" reading in the program...but is it? I go over the ideas behind reading the AA Big Book and doing the 12 Steps of AA.

The step work in Alcoholics Anonymous allows us to go back in time and repair the things we may have thought were out of our control. With the use of AA's Time Machine, we can go back and set things straight, allowing us to carry on with productive and fulfilling lives.

I'm sure there are people who do this kind of 2-stepping (p. 113 in the 12 x 12). I do both service and sponsor women. I've also worked the steps numerous times for myself and actively have a sponsor. Usually, there are minimum sobriety requirements for "jobs" at the group, district, and area level which keeps people from committing until the have the experience. That said, we have a lot of "meeting makers" who do NO service and do not sponsor at all. It's terrible because it forces those of us who are active to sponsor multiple people and do most of the service work. I've had to pull back on some service work so that I'm not "hogging" positions that others may do--and in some cases, there service jobs stay vacant. AA is not an easy thing, but it does pay off.

I like everything you said, but the way you just seemed to be patient and waiting until your ready, doesn't sound like you were afraid dying immediately ...like I was. If I waited until I was sponsorable? lol its sounds like a sport, am I coachable? Fentanyl was dropping bodies all over NYC, I was next. I needed anyone in the program that could help me stop and stay stopped, like out-patient drug testing. someone... i dont care how much they know are just a bad fit, others are annoying but they are getting it going with you, showing me how it works, its took me over a decade to get it right. Then there were others that I felt like were angels without wings, just so easy to talk to...I trusted them. my suggestion is get someone as soon as possible and figure the rest out as you go. Your life depends on it, even if its a counselor, therapist, psychiatrist, GET SOMEBODY> Godspeed

The "Pink Cloud" is the period of time where you are in denial, before facing the WRECKAGE OF YOUR PAST BEHAVIOR AND MISCHIEF. When you get honest about the damage you have done to others while drinking you become humble.

I don't see service as having much downside and I have never seen any one skip step work because they took a commitment. I think the primary reason for taking a commitment is to lessen the chance of reducing attendance which is the number ONE thing most people do before they relapse. I don't have statistics but I would guess 80% of those who relapse do so after first reducing the number of meetings or they simply stop going. Being involved will cause someone to get to know other members which will increase the chance of finding a sponsor and working the steps which in the end is how we recover. I see no reason to make a video warning people about being of service. Service is one of the three pillars of the program. If it wasn't for people offering to do service there would be NO AA

Or. How about some women get ran out of the meetings by “old timer” predators who harass them and leer at them in meetings? I think you left that one out!!! 😂 I’m supposed to gather in a musty church basement with a bunch of dirty old perverts. Sitting there drinking their nasty coffee and leering at me while they crunch on a stale oatmeal cookie for my well being? Yeah, no thanks! Then immediately after the meeting they be line for ya wanting a “hug” (ie to feel ya up). I’ve said more than once do not touch me if you want to keep both your arms. Yep, you left a lot out for sure! What a bunch of horse shit!

They love fresh meat. It feeds their sense of purpose. I did find solace in the meetings for the 1st couple of years, however, I never bought the promise that if I didn't do it their way, i would get drunk. 90% of them act one way inside the rooms and another way outside the rooms. Careful who you share with and what you share. Anonymity has gone out the window. They talk, gossip and judge. I recommend outside therapy with a 3rd party. I have 25 years and quit going years ago when I realized my sponsor was a total narcissist.
