Gabion basket being considered but starting with low budget option. We can use these rocks in the basket later, if required. Really focused now on next major project which we hope to start this year. Yes, we used a credit card.

Initially planned for 4 hours use but found that we actually needed more power. Larger generator to meet needs was too pricey. The DYI setup was more economical (significantly) and more in line with what we need. Currently, just running the StarLink, recharging devices and running light, we are getting about 30 hrs. We still have the BLUETTI but use it in case of long spells or rain (limited sunlight).

The setup in that video is actually 2 x 130W panels. We have since added a second 230W panel. We use 2 x Renogy 20amp charge controllers and a 2000W Renogy pure sine wave inverter. We have 2 x 12v 100amp batteries (check our latest Veranda Update video that drops in a couple hours). We use a Lenx smart shunt to monitor the batteries

@djtooshort1 check out recent video, using to power a circular saw installing cladding on outside wall. Setup can power anything up to 2000watts (limitation of the inverter). I got these Weize 12v 100amp LiFePO4 batteries off Amazon

Service before and after still tracking very well and we are satisfied. We had visited the cabin before Beryl and took the dish down to minimize the possibility of physical damage.

@@24.windsorone more question, what’s the maximum amount of devices you had on it at once and did you noticed any drop in performance? My intent is to have shared for two different households.

Max would be about 5 or 6 devices during testing phase. Since moved off-grid, we are mostly doing 2 or 3 devices at a time. I’m sure it can service both household (unless you have persons constantly doing massive uploads and downloads).

Hey, I don’t think StarLink allows customers to move the system from one country to another. For the residential plan, it has to be used in the area it was registered. For mobile plan, you can move it around within the country it was purchased in (not to another country). You may have to contact StarLink to find out if it can be deregistered in one country and re-activated in another. Hope this is helpful.

Not sure I understand the question, but when I test, I am normally getting about 130mg download speed. Sometimes higher sometimes lower depending on weather condition.

Yes, I relocated the dish to a location that does not have an obstruction. Been working great since then.

Morning, if you are ordering for Jamaica, make sure you use an address in Jamaica to ship it to. DHL will deliver to that address at no additional costs. It does not have to be your own home address (so if you have a PO Box address, you can send to a friend or a work place address). Do NOT use a drop ship address in the USA.

@nickbaylis6661 yes, It will be shipped to you via DHL, the shipping company they use for orders coming to Jamaica. DHL will deliver it directly to that address in Jamaica

If you have a lot of trees, you may have to mount it on a pole higher than the top of the trees (the cord that comes with the device is 75ft long, but you could also order the 150ft cord). Or, if you can’t, you may have to prune some of the branches from the trees (hope you don’t have to cut down any). I recently had to move our dish that was mounted on the roof of our cabin and place it on a pole up the side of a hill, to avoid obstruction from a nearby tree.

Go for it. If concerned, find a way to ground properly.

Trying a thing or two

I’m currently using in the bush of Portland and getting up to 150mb download. I have some trees obstructions which affects speed now so will be relocating the dish in another couple of weeks. I was getting 250-300mbps when used in Kingston. I guess the speed will vary based on where you are located.

@@24.windsor i understand but i want to know how often you get that speed of 300 mbs i need good speed my thing is security camera monitoring at several remote farm locations so i need to know that i am get that speed at lease 85 percent of the time.

@cattywool1 I don’t actually measure the speed very often, so unable to give an estimate of percentage that it’s running at 300. Sorry about that. Anybody out there that can help with this question? Anyone using for video monitoring?
