I think I’m finally done with Canada post. I switched to ebill long ago for bills and really only use my very expensive P.O. Box for packages. I think that I’m going to switch back to home delivery and that way my stuff can be delivered via third party carriers if need be and say goodbye to Canada post forever.

I’ll be honest I’m surprised Canada post hasn’t closed yet. Nobody hardly uses letter mail anymore and their package delivery is subpar. Employees wondering why they’re not making very good money it’s because there’s other competition unlike in the past and therefore the company just can’t afford paying their employees what they want. It will eventually close unless the company makes some drastic changes. In this case union might hurt the employees by the company calling it quits if they happen to. The CEO and upper management make way too much and it hurts the company and takes away from its employees. There has to be a healthy balance in business or crap like that happens and leads to closures. That healthy balance being fair wages, great workplace moral, fair amount of of sick days, decent amount of of paid vacation time, great benefits, bonuses and really ought to be thinking about severance packages and a decent pension. If any of those things are not properly and fairly balanced to keep ur employees happy then you’re definitely going to have problems down the road, it’s just a matter of time and that goes for any and all companies. People can’t afford to work for bare minimums and peanuts anymore. Corporate has to take a pay cut themselves or expect way more of this kind of stuff to happen. When times are tough, times are tough but corporate shouldn’t be lining their pockets while employees suffer either. They should be decreasing their wages and scaling back as well.

While I understand the workers wanting good wages and working conditions I feel this strike could lead to big changes at Canada Post that will in the end cost some workers their jobs. A remake of Canada Post is needed with new measures to bring in more revenue. This means more revenue streams and yes measures to cut costs. More automation would be one I would suggest as well as streamling operations. As for who is to blame for the problems at Canada Post. Both sides. Canada Post, the workers and the Union. As for the current strike well it is sad to see Canadians and Canadian small businesses are being thrown under the bus. For those who say this is not the case well yes it is. The Union and the workers made the choice to strike knowing full well Canadians counting on Canada Post at Christmas and small businesses counting on Christmas sales would be the ones to take a big hit. Most likely as a bargaining chip to push their cause. Well it seems this time it is going to come back to bite them. Most places I mail order from who only used Canada Post for parcels have signed agreements for other Courier services and have stated even when the strike is over the new shipping options will stay is place. Right now those options are about the same as Canada Post prices. Yes in the future I am sure they will be more expensive. For me they are faster services and worth the extra cost in the end. So in short both sides need to get their heads out of the sand and work together if they do not want Canada Post to fail.

i rarely get important mail. i get my statements and bills electronically. every business day i collect junk mail and recycle it but now my visa's in the mail the one piece of mail i needed in months.

Me too bud me too. Ups is almost triple the cost. I ship maybe 5 things a week but its my ONLY income. 3lb parcel costed $52 via UPS vs $19 XS flat rate. My sales range are $50-2500 items. No bailouts for businesses. No EI or any other thing available for businesses.
