    You do not owe anyone an apology. Really! Life gets in the way and priorities change. Being a streamer or a content creator is not as easy as people think. Believe me I know. I do not monetize any of my content but I know my subs appreciate my work even when I take breaks. The true fans always understand and stay. That is why I keep it up.     The box is a advantage to the player using it.. It uses things that break the conventional inputs that controllers can't do.. 💯

    good vid. i bought a fightstick but im thinking of getteing to a hitbox or mixbox for it feels easier then a fightstick. pad hurt my hand, and stick is so hard to learn, i probly would bought something else if knew it existed

    in term of pc-gaming back in 90's almost every 2D platform and fps game uses spacebar as jump.that's why the idea behind hitbox layout i guess , But if you want my personal recommendation, try what makes you comfort , BTW Mixbox has two mode for directional moves. i'd to love to build another custom fighting board , but the problem is i can't find 10mm or 15mm Sanwa buttons i want to match them in keyboard keycaps size. but not exist , trust me Sanwa convex buttons are the best

    I agree with this vid. I was just thinking about getting hit box. I use a arcade stick, and my friend uses a pad. He's pretty good, but shit with a stick, and vice versa for me. I cannot comprehend fighting game controls on a pad. It makes no sense to me and is just confusing. Granted I will get better other time, but with the arcade stick, I was able to play and understand the controls immediately. It didnt make me a good player, It just made the game easier to understand to me.

    Hi cousin, I see how this can be exciting for players who want to maybe transition from the keyboard and computer screen down to a Xbox or Playstation... question, is this only for Xboxes and PlayStations? I think that the 80s are in right now and that's why this is happening.. it looks like a Nintendo controller to me

    As someone who started playing fighting games on PC with keyboard and then switched to Hitbox, which was a really smooth transition, I can't imagine to ever play on a pad, stick probably neither.

    Honestly (not having tried it) it seems like a direct downgrade from the Hitbox. If you're a keyboard player, a Hitbox is a better option anyway since it's more ergonomic.

      sorry if your holding left right down i would assume it would show all the inputs but your character would crouch because holding left and right is a natural state so down would take priority

      I tried to create my own Hitbox by replacing the top panel of my arcade stick with a custom made panel with Hitbox layout. Everything was all nice and dandy. Until I found out that when the PCB encounter SOCD it will not send any directional input whatsoever. I guess I'll have to change the PCB then. Thanks.

    I have the same condition, and I play moded Minecraft by sound. I can't play alone, and only play with friends on private servers, because PVP is near impossible. My right eye is totally blind, and my left sees about the same way your right eye does. Glad to have found your channel.

    Any gaming community that bans a peripheral and expects us to praise their champions who are coddled away from the masters of these banned peripherals, those champions are actually losers who show themselves limiting their competitive edge for allowing their community to allow these unfair banning practices.

    The hitbox IS a MOD in itself just for existing..... Part of the "SKILL" is perfecting your craft despite the hand pains or controller inconsistencies....hitbox is nothing but a moneygrab

    It's beyond my comprehension how anyone could argue against the use of a controller because it's "unfair." The controller doesn't change the game itself or improve the player. If you can do things on a Smashbox that you can't with the standard GC controller, it's not unfair in that the controller is somehow "busting the game;" you could always do those things in the game, it was just that the GC controller restricted those certain executions. Perhaps you can make the argument that the Smashbox might change the landscape of the metagame, but considering how there are top Smash 64 players (like Isai and Mariguas) still use the standard N64 controller and not the Hori 64 controller, I am unconvinced that would be the case.

    I know this video is a bit old, but if you're still interested to learn the mechanics of KI, I'm down to teach. I am also a low vision gamer. I've been spending a lot of time in KI learning things and can easily help out. things have changed slightly audio wise in seasons 2 and 3 and it has become more sound friendly.

    Teabagging isn't a big deal in the long scheme of things however in terms of a tournament, it's not sportsmanship-like. It's like when I played soccer as a kid, when we won, we still had to shake hands with the opposing team and when we lost. It taught me humility and professionalism. I think the same applies in gaming tournaments if the gaming community wants to shed it's toxic reputation. If someone random does it to me online, I may take the high road and not do it, but I will take the low road and do it if they are teabagging for the sake teabagging. I call that karma. :-) Outside of that, teabagging and taunting is fun when done in casual sets with friends because you know it's not meant to be anything other than funny.

      exactly i mean we want our games to become mainstream esports and we have it now. we have to show we deserve it we are set to a higher standard and those standards say professional play in professional settings.

    Stop conflating targeting the peripheral with targeting the person using it. That type of description is very disingenuous to the actual dilemma. The reason this is being discussed is rightly because of the overarching effects on smash as a competitive game and what advantages this peripheral may provide, not because a person is being treated as their very being is illegal. You have a democratic method to settle this via giving or redacting your support for venues and tournaments based on what they offer in the venue with your finances or your publicity in your videos. Is much more genuine than attempting to get your result via application of guilt. As such this is how id like to see the smash box pan out, i want some venues and tournaments to allow this controller and see what happens as well as some who reject it. And id like to see what the community would like to do to show their support or disdain. I think its about time people speak with their wallet about what should be done at a convention instead of being fooled into buying tickets for that perfect event with all your friends only to arrive at a dirty college campus crawling with thieves and looters. Its time people voted with their wallet and actually played a role in what happens at a venue!

    By far, one of your best videos and I think that it's something that most FG commentators rarely talk about. Sound queues are a nice way to tell what's going on. Sound design is way more important than any character design for a good FG... Hell, any game at that point! It ties to the mechanics after all.

    the smashbox is causing controversy as smash controls in a fundamentally different manner to other fighting games due to actually using full analog inputs rather than converting them to 8 way digital ones, this combined with the wealth of analog-angle specific tech means the smashbox trivializes some tech. It also bypasses some of the restrictions that a analog stick puts on human capabilitys in terms of input speed. here are a few things known to be made much easier/usable with the smashbox: shield drops: normally, when you input down while in shield you will do a dodge in place, but there is a small window (3 angles out of the 255 possible from the analog stick) where you can instead drop through the platform. If performed properly this has frame advantage over falling through a platform normally. There is another, more consistent method to perform it which involves moving the control stick to the left/right while in the air or performing an action before shielding, then gliding the stick down to one of the octagonal notches (which may or may not be placed correctly, differing between controllers, but that's another issue), but this is still quite difficult to perform consistently in matches and requires inputs which impact your aerial drift. The smashbox can trivialy perform these frame perfectly with no aerial drift, something which is humanly impossible with an analog stick. smash DI (directional influence): DI is a collection of techniques which affect how your character moves when hit by an attack. Smash DI moves your character during hitstun, to perform it you must input a new direction during a frame where you are in hitstun, so shifting the stick from neutral to a direction or one of the 8 cardinal directions to another. A single smash DI input can invalidate many combos, even stopping you from getting hit by subsequent hits of the same multi hit attack. 2 consecutive smash DI inputs are the general accepted standard for human limitation on smash DI, but it is a very rare occurrence and the vast majority of smash players would struggle to get one. the smashbox heightens the human limit on smash DI and makes single smash di inputs much easier. Pivot uptilt: pivoting is when your character turns around in a single frame during the initial portion of a dash, in this state your character is considered similarly to being in neutral, and as such can perform most actions he could when standing still (smashes, tilts, jabs, B moves), however with the GCC it is extremely difficult to perform anything other than smashes and Ftilt, the smashbox makes pivot uptilt and pivot downtilt able to be down much more easily. ice climbers pivot nana jump desync: the character ice climbers is a tag team of two characters, referred to as Popo, who you directly control, and nana, who mimics your inputs after a short delay. however nana is unable to perform some actions such as pivoting, when popo pivots, nana will continue the uninterruptible initial portion of her dash, then do a slow turnaround and try to follow popo. During a pivot, popo is unable to jump, but nana is still maintaining her dash, so will jump when she recieves the input. To perform this requires a jump on the same frame as an analog stick input, which difficult. to add to the difficulty it is most useful from a triple tap dashdance, where popo dashes forward, back, then forward again, with the jump input on the pivot before dashing forward for the second time. The smashbox with its digital buttons makes same-frame direction and action inputs much easier. and the holy grail: ice climbers sensitivity desyncs. These desyncs use a tiny discrepancy between the inputs that make popo perform certain actions, and the inputs which make nana perform them. they require far greater then human precision to perform reliably, even with the help of modded notched controllers as they are 1/255 angle perfect. the smashbox sets a digital to analog precedent which allows for controllers that coud trivialise these techs. this would allow a huge tech imbalance between ice climbers that have digital to analog controllers, and those who don't. The reason many people in the melee community don't like hitbox dustin is that he refuses to comment on, or dismisses completely the concerns of the melee community over the inequalitys between the smashbox and the gamecube controller, and is simultaneously presenting the hitbox as a better controller (read, the tech exhibition video) while arguing that it doesn't give an advantage in order to get it legalized.

    So you've said in the past that KI didn't always have the best sound, so what made you stick with it until they improved the sound quality? Did you just really like the fighting system? Ps. Great vid as always

      I loved KI since it came out in arcades. i only played KI on a casual level before the sound overhaul. what the sound overhaul allowed me to do is compete in tournaments and take the game more seriously. so before the sound overhaul i just did a bunch of research on characters. :)

    I think we should try to mix different types of commentators. Someone might be energetic and hype, and another analytic. If those two were to commentate on a match, we'd get the perfect mix of everything.

      fair point. i believe everyone can commentate it just takes practice and time. some people have a voice for getting people really into the game for those hype moments others have the analytical thinking so it would make sense to mix and match pairs.

    I mean, nobody in smash 4 gives a shit since we have numerous other controllers and this gives nothing weirdo than Bidou does. For melee, the problem is that it makes it easier to do certain tech, and melee is extremely tech intensive. Smash 4 is similar in tech skill to a more traditional fighting game, with some characters having identical combos to those found in traditional games (Bayonetta has a similar combo tree with multiple options out of each starter, and Ryu having a fairly similar style to SF, as he was fairly well designed). Right now, in the meta for smash 4, tech skill is generally considered a bonus, rather than a necessity (this is becoming less true though). For melee though, there are some very difficult techs that are completely necessary to playing. I can't wavedash reliably, and that's 100% necessary for melee (note I never really have practiced). In melee, there is absolutely no history of other controllers. It's a very old game from before multiple control setups were standard in games. There is one control scheme, game cube controller, with tap jump and smash stick (both rarely used in smash 4). A lot of melee purists feel that changing this takes away from the integrity of the game. I personally feel that the debate will go away after a while, as people will admit that the injuries caused by the gamecube controller are hurting the scene.

      Jake Schaafsma Honestly the only tech it helps are perfect pivot tilts and shield drops, one of which (shield drops) are already made easier by notches.
